    RISK OF AMNIOCENTESIS !!!

    Dear Girls:
A few days ago, I posted a thread announcing the death of my baby boy at 21 weeks of pregnancy. I have just come back from hospital and the loss of my baby was due to important loss of amniotic fluid following the amniocentesis test we performed two weeks ago. I started this new thread to draw your attention to the fact that amnios can be an unnecesary risk.
We wanted to make sure our baby was healthy and we have involuntarily caused his death, the death of a perfectly healthy baby.
We have the result of the test, which came back perfect but we no longer have our baby.
To those who are pregnant or plan to be, please be aware of the risks of the amniocentesis and stay away from it unless you fear for some special reason that your baby could really be not normal.
I know the risk of losing a baby after an amnio is small, but it can happen.
Our baby was perfectly healthy and we sacrificed him unnecesarily for the sake of certainty.
Do not incur in this risk if you can avoid it.
    We deeply regret our decision.

I'm so sorry. Did your water break or had you been leaking fluid?

Neither. Since I usually have a lot of vaginal discharge in general (when I'm not pregnant I'm usually a heavy CM producer), maybe I did not notice some fluid leaking or confused it with discharge. I had been warned I should only watch out for blood discharge like a period, not for a simple colourless discharge.

Carol, I'm SO sorry. Please don't blame yourself, I find that many doctors are very hard-sell on the amnios for women over 35 and it's very hard not to listen to what they say. Wishing you the very best for peace and healing

Thank you for posting, I have been very uncomfortable with the thought of amnio and have been trying to convince my husband.

Carol, I am so so sorry for your loss.
I have been thinking about this myself. I'm not pregnant yet, but I'm 40 and I'm fearful that they'll want to do an amnio when I become pregnant. It is something I will definitely put a lot of thought into and what happened to you will be a big consideration.
Praying for peace for you and your family..
