View Full Version : Differences in breastmilk for boys and girls

I came across this research - they have apparently been able to identify that breastmilk is different for girls and boys - more fat and protein is found in the milk produced for boys. This really does show that our body is somehow aware of the gender of the baby we conceive, making adjustments for the extra nutrients boys require.

Scroll down to the "Breast milk for boys and girls" part:

New Insight on Benefits of Breastfeeding - :: Cincinnati news story :: LOCAL 12 WKRC-TV in Cincinnati (http://www.local12.com/webmd/parenting/newborn/story/New-Insight-on-Benefits-of-Breastfeeding/VAbCSJtJWkW5d_4PUojFxw.cspx)

I am having an obsessive morning and have spent my time googling things like "lost weight before TTC" and out of all the hits I can find it seems that the vast majority of people who say they have lost weight before having a baby, did go on to have a girl. This LE diet looks more hopeful by the day to me!

I LOVE everything about BF and its benefits, thank you for sharing!

In my opinion, they will never be able to make formula to be like mom's milk, there will always be something that is missing ( for example, mother's antibodies so the newborn is getting passive immunity through milk, which is fascinating.

It is interesting ... but I'd like to read the actual study and not just this article, KWIM? They mention there isn't clear evidence showing WHY or even IF the claim is true. I absolutely do believe breast milk is best but I do think sometimes these "studies" aren't all that scientific!

I agree totally begonia!!! I am perpetually disappointed in studies because they draw conclusions that don't always line up with what the data even suggests.

I can get to the study, but it's pay per view. :(

what is the study actually called? I'm a librarian and we have paid for resources for our medical college students and I may be able to access it and attach a PDF of it.

So does it mean we loose more weight while BF a boy? Since the body make more fatty milk? just wondering...
I only have girls and never loose any weigh until I stop BF.
But it also says boys grow faster then girls and that is is so not true for my babys .All my girls grow faster and have to wear bigger clothes then they suppose to. Everyone was guessing all my girls older all the time.

I never lost any weight until I stopped breastfeeding (or at least made it to 6-9 months after birth, anyway)

My boys always grew superfast too. I think these are just observations for the public at large and may not be true for every individual.

I've got access to that journal, I've attached the pdf, I hope it worked because that's the first time I've tried that.

Is it OK to post it up? I tried to pm it but I couldn't attach it to a pm. I'll delete it if it isn't, some other forums I go on are very strict about copyright etc

ooo thanks! I'm not sure if it's ok or not, we'll have to ask NBP and she's away for the weekend. Let's leave it up for now and everyone can have a quick read if we do end up having to take it down. Thanks so much!!!

All you can do, is what you can do! Kudos to you for sticking with BF as long as you were able to!
