hi girls

what is the earliest you can determine gender in a baby and by what means? blood test, ultrasound etc

what i found the hardest with my boys was the not knowing and the idea i could have a girl drove me insane made it soo much harder to be happy knowing asap would allow me to enjoy my last pg without the possibility hanging over me

I am not 100% sure but I thought it was 12 weeks if you go to a nub specialist but then thats not 100% - good luck though x

CVS around 10-11 weeks.

oh yes, I forgot about CVS - we would only be able to get that privately in the UK and think its around £500. We had CVS for DS3 as we were advised to but they didnt test for the sex of the baby as the issue we had wasnt gender related.

If you just go by u/s, 16 weeks is the earliest they advise. I found out with both boys at 16 weeks and there was no doubt about it at all!

Hi, I wouldnt recommend a CVS test unless you are concerned about something being wrong as it carries a small risk of miscarriage. They have to insert a really long needle and take some cells (sorry - not very good explanation - I have sort of blanked it out as it scared me a bit at the time!) - its very similar to an amnio but it can be done from an earlier gestation. I am sure someone could explain it better than me!

I had a nub specialist scan me at 13 weeks and told me at this stage it is 70% girl. He was right confirmed at gender scan at 15+4.
I'll be checking again at 21 week scan, then will book a 4D bonding scan at about 30 weeks... just to be really sure, lol.

CVS is the earliest chance but they usually only offer it to women over 40, or with some history of abnormal pregnancy. It has a 1 in 200 chance of miscarriage. Next time to get guaranteed sex results is amniosyntesis.

The nub guessing is just that...guessing. So if you're okay with it, an ultrasound at 12 - 14 weeks with a profile shot is what you need.

I'd say a private ultrasound at 13 weeks on the dot should give you a solid idea of what your having. Just tell the scanner that your friend will guess for you so can you have some footage of the gender nub, as your paying then they should give you what you want, my nhs scan just showed fleeting flashes of the nub area., definately worth going private.':)
