Hey, if you're obsessing about heartrate and gender I have to put it to rest for once and for all! My baby's heartrate has been in the 130-low 140 (and was even 128 once) for the last several months and ALL 4 of my boys were always in the higher range 150-160's and NEVER were that low. (one of my boys even had a heartrate of 170 regularly) So for me anyway, the heart rate thing has not been true.

the thing is its had a bit of significance with me, my last son was always lowish, my last 2 girls ,now 7 and 3 was in the 160-180s extremely fast. this one is in the 140s, so who knows ,it'll be 50/50 no matter what.
until i get my gender scan it gives me mentally a bit of hope! x

In my last pregnancies I had a lovely old midwife who always used to say she thought you could guess gender on the change in heart rate. So the rate at which it slows between 12 weeks and say 20 weeks, I'm not totally sure what the time frame was or which way round was boy or girl but she said she had about 85% success rate from that. :)

With DD her heart beat was always 160's, this pregnancy has been 148 both times - I am 15 weeks preg. But looking at my scans apparently people are telling me it looks like another girl on the way.. see;4682

It was wrong for 2 of my 3. My friend was told by her dr that her baby has a girl heart beat and she just found out yesterday she is having a boy.

The heart rate thing was actually true for me. My 3 boys were all in the range of 135-150, and my daughter's was in the range of 160-180.

I don't believe it because it is all so variable as to what you "catch" the baby doing.

My first son was between 160-175 at 8 and 13 weeks. It was around 150 for the rest of pregnancy (doppler and ultrasounds).

My second son was between 140-175 at various times in his pregnancy. Sometimes it was lower, sometimes higher. I actually had it checked on Doppler at one appt 165 and then had a sonogram not ten minutes later and it was 151. He apparently went to sleep.

This Baby was 128 at 6 weeks, 141 at 10 weeks, and 171 at 12 weeks. Clearly a wide variety. No idea what sex this one is. But I wouldn't base the guess on its heart rate.

The one heart rate thing that I kind of do believe is that during labor, girls heart rates are higher. During my last labor, with my DS2, his heart rate stayed basically in the 120's-130's. I don't know the heart rates of my other 3 kids during their labors, though (I can't remember if I even noticed).

Like a previous post said, during pregnancy I think it really does depend on what the baby is doing. I was monitored a few weeks before DS2 was born, and his heart rate went from 120 all the way up to 170, depending on if he was moving around or sleeping.
