INGender recommends sea salt, but I strongly recommend you using at least SOME iodized salt every day. Your body needs iodine and many types of sea salt have none.
Also, you may not want to go overboard on the sodium intake. 4000 mg of sodium is plenty. Some data has indicated that the sky high 5-6000 or more mg of sodium may actually sway PINK, not blue. Plus, it's not good for your health or fertility.

Pearl, there is a lot of conflicting info as to whether the Himalayan Crystal Salt has iodine in enough quantity to meet dietary needs. You may be getting some from other sources, but it's best if you can sneak in some iodized salt somewhere along the way. Iodine can prevent a kind of mental handicap in our babies and thyroid issues that can cause miscarriages, so it's pretty important that we get enough. Iodine deficiency during pregnancy is considered the most common preventable cause of mental retardation in children. Hi Atomic,
I use Atlantic sea salt for adding to cooking water, the Himalayan crystal salt is what I add at the table, I am also eating a lot more eggs, milk and about twice a month I get a bag of kelp crunchies from the raw food stand at the local farmers market to snack on. I have not seen any iodized salt in the supermarket or the health food store. I don't use a lot of salt anyway just probably what most normal people use which is a big step up from me not adding any salt in cooking or when eating ( I even used to buy salt free stock)

Iodized salt should be commonly available in grocery stores (but that may just be in the US.) Kelp crunchies are a good source of iodine. :agree: Dairy used to be a great source of iodine because dairy farmers used iodine to clean their milking equipment, but they've gone to cheaper products now and so it's not a reliable source any more. Some farmers are feeding their animals iodine-rich feeds to make up for it, but I don't think it's legally required by law. You may want to find a low-level iodine supp (or take a prenatal with iodine) just to be on the safe side. Sorry to be an iodine nag, it's just that I'd rather die a thousand deaths than have anyone, esp. a child, harmed by any sway advice that I give. :)

Yes, it's because it's not healthy and can harm fertility. People of African descent actually carry a gene that makes them retain high levels of sodium in their blood, and they have more daughters than any other ethnicity.
Please understand I'm not advising anyone to eat large amounts of sodium, but they tell blue swayers to do that on IG and it's a REALLY bad idea.
The link to one of the studies is in this essay.

Studies are also showing that if the salt isn't stripped of everything else (ie processed down to just sodium), it doesn't have the same effect that just plain sodium salt does on blood pressure.
We personally use Real Salt which has other minerals in it too. I take a iodine supplement a couple of times a week too. If you eat tons of seafood you may not need more iodine. Thyroid issues (or obviously goiter) can indicate iodine deficiency, but lots of women with thyroid problems are also eating regular stripped down sodium table salt that has iodine added.
I think salting to taste is the best option for salt. Your body does a good job of letting you know what you need by how your food tastes. Just my opinions!

I will look into getting an iodine supplement to take so. As I looked in 3 different supermarkets and the health store and couldn't find the iodised salt.

That's too bad Pearl, it's crazy in the US the regular table salt (the one with iodine) is the easiest to find. It doesn't even always say it in the title, but says it contains iodine in the ingredients part.
I NEVER used salt before, really and truly never cooked with it, not even in baking recipes when it calls for some. Now I am salting a hard boiled egg every morning. Also, I made zucchini carrot fritters yesterday and salted the zuchinni before to help drain the water and I never used to do that.
On that note, I also mixed Greek yogurt with avocado and garlic and lemon juice for a topping for them and the whole meal was delicious. I will try to post recipe

I totally believe you, and I appreciate knowing that because I assumed it was widely available but it clearly isn't!!

I agree skrimpy - salting to taste while TTC boy - :agree: Forcefeeding yourself salt to the point of making yourself ill - not ok and not supported by the facts anyway because your body just excretes excess salt.

Oh and when I had postpartum hypertension, before i was diagnosed I noticed that eating salty foods seemed really off-putting and disgusting to me. Within a week I was in the hospital with blood pressure of 200 over 120. Then once I got better, salty stuff tasted normal again. Our bodies really do have wisdom!!!

So I got my Iodine supplement. Each tablet contains 150ug's the directions say take 1-3 per day but also that each tablet contains 100% of the RDA. How much should I take.
I also found that the only place to buy iodized salt is in Lidl which is a budget German supermarket and it imports in its German brand of iodized salt.

Aaa I think I misread this in your other thread, if one pill has 100% RDA, then just take ONE, not two. I thought you were saying that all three together was 100%.
