View Full Version : Heading to the doctor...

So Im heading to the Doctor on Monday. It has been nearly 9 weeks since ive stopped breastfeeding my 11 mth old and have not yet got AF. With my other 2 babies I got AF back after about 3 weeks of stopping BF.
I have been charting my temp, OPK's, maybe baby microscope and been charting my CM, and thought I O'd 3 wks ago. Did a girl attempt a couple of times around then, but no BFP or AF.... So think its time I go get my hormone levels checked out.
Ive had 3 children in 3 yrs, so very close together. Ive also had a hemithyroidectomy in that time, so Im not sure if my thyroid is playing up and messing with my body, or my hormone levels are just out of kilter.
Its all very frustrating and I was prepared to not be pregnant this month, but slightly annoyed I havent even got AF when I expected it would come!
So now really confused with what I thought was my body telling me Ive O'd. But clearly I havent or else AF or BFP would be showing its face by now:rolleyes:
Can anyone shed some light on this, has it happened to you before? How long has it taken for you to get AF back after stopping BF?
We want all of our kids close, and we want to try for one more (:fingers:fingers and toes crossed we get our girl) but I want to at least know where I stand in my cycle.
Much appreciated. Thanks ladies

Sometimes it takes AF a bit of time to come back even when you stop BF. The more kids you've had back to back, the more likely it is that your body just decides to take a bit of a break.
One time, I had a fake O when I was breastfeeding that was so realistic that it completely tricked me (and this was after 4 children, so I had a lot of experience with my cycles). When AF didn't show up, I took a ton of pg tests and even went to the doctor to get a pg test there. I had O pains, CM, the whole nine yards, but AF just never showed up and I wasn't pg. It took me an additional 6 months after that for O/AF to come back!!
What did the doc say on Monday?

I agree. 9 weeks isn't anything to worry about. Just takes time sometimes!

Have you changed your diet a bunch? Maybe too much LE???
AF always comes back for me when I drop 1 or 2 nursing times. My babies always sleep through the night quickly though so the most I've had w/out AF pp is 6months. So, I am not sure what you could do that you're done nursing.
Oh wait, get the Garden of Fertility book by Kate Singer she talks about night-lighting to get your cycles to return or google. It something like sleeping in COMPLETE darkness except for 4 days in the middle of the month to encourage your body to ovulate. She really means complete darkness though, no moonlight or hall light shining in your bedroom

Hi Atomic,
yes she said that its nothing to be too concerned about. Just because I got AF back soon after stopping BF the other 2 times doesnt mean it will happen this time. She has sent me for some bloodwork though, especially to check my TSH levels. She said that if all comes back "normal" then we will just wait another 3 months and repeat bloods if no AF in the meantime. She is aware that we want to try to conceive asap as we want all of our 4 kids close together, so she did say that if AF hasnt returned in about 6 months we may discuss kickstarting O with clomid. However, she said that could possibly increase chances of a multiple preg and suddenly we could have 5 children :holysheep: She seems pretty confident it will return in the meantime... Ho Hum... I just want to b pregnant again, with a little :DD: Now thats not too much to ask is it?? :giggle:

And finally preg test neg.... So now its just a waiting game. I hope it returns soon so I can get stuck in to my sway! :fingers:

It took me a year and a half to get AF back after delivering DS#2. I'm still breastfeeding, but I got my period back much sooner with DS#1.
So maybe the process takes longer with each baby we have? It just depends on the woman I would say.
You could try Vitex to bring back your period, it has worked for several ladies and it sways pink as well!

Yes Ive been taking Vitex now for about 6 weeks, so will keep on that for sure!! At least nothing sinister is going on. I do believe Im one of the most impatient people!!
So will just try and RELAX and put it out of my mind for now, and get on with life! 3 kids 4yrs and under keeps me on my toes so time really does fly by!! In the meantime it will allow me to focus on my sway plan that I'll be getting soon from Atomic! And this site certainly fills in any of my free time! I love it!

That is good! How much do you take a day? :)
It should help bring it back soon!
I'm also VERY impatient! LoL
But in the meantime we'd love for you to keep hanging out with us as you plan your sway!

Im taking one tablet a day thats 1000??? its just called vitex 1000
Is that the right dose?
When is your princess due?? How exciting!! I cant wait for my little 'Darcey' to join our family! I so hope I can do a successful sway. In Australia PGD is illegal, so it would mean travelling to USA for it. We've just bought a business 5 yrs ago in hay export, so our overheads are huge and bringing up 3 little kiddies there isnt any left overs for a trip or two to USA for ivf etc....
Anyway, time will tell and Im sure we'll get what we are meant to get! Were you swaying for a whole year? Do u have your sway attempt on here?

1000 mg vitex is just fine!! 800-1200 has been effective for most people.
