But instead of dwelling on the fact that I have only 1 girl, I try to appreciate the fact that I can have her to myself. If your baby is a girl, your boy will be your only sweet mama's boy and you two will share an unbreakable bond. Just as dd will look to me for a female companion, your boy will see you as the first woman he loved. I think he's lucky! And so are you :o
Besides, I still think you're having a boy. I felt the same way about Skrimpy and she's having a boy so who knows? Fingers crossed for you, but if it's a girl you'll be a great mum to her - just like you already are to your other three kids. :awe:
Thank you Myloves. This brought tears to my eyes. I love my little boy so much, and he already is a mama's boy.... I know we will always have that bond. I was just hoping to give him the brother he wants so much, and to be able to have that bond with another little gentleman in my life as well.

My contractions are starting to get really intense (often I can't talk while having one), but they're still 10-15 minutes apart. I'm not supposed to call my midwife until they're 5 minutes apart for an hour. I'm hoping things speed up soon!

Wow 5 mins apart for an hour! I would have thought that was quite a while to wait, both of mine were pretty much born by that point! How long were your previous labours? x

My twins were induced at 37w5d and after 27 hours I was only at 8cm so they gave me a c-section.
With ds3 (a VBAC) I had my first contraction at 1am and they were quick and painful right from the start. I went to the hospital at 5am, and he was born at 10:30am.

Me too Mocha - the more kiddos I had, the quicker I went from early labor to having a baby. AAA freaking out!

Go in when you feel ready mocha, things might pick up all of a sudden being a 3rd pregnancy, best of luck xxx

Thanks, ladies. The contractions are still pretty irregular (anywhere from 5-15 minutes apart) so I don't think I'm there yet. I managed to bring ds3 to preschool today amidst it all, and just came back from a walk around the neighborhood. I may give my midwife a call in a couple of hours if nothing has changed to at least give her a heads-up that she may be attending a birth today.

I'm feeling the love, ladies (and I always love hearing from you, swish!).
Still pretty much the same here - contractions anywhere from 6 to 20 minutes apart. Starting to get really impatient for this show to get on the road. My body's starting to get really tired dealing with all these contractions and I feel like I'm going to feel like this forever.

Can you go in to be checked Mocha?
zanacal
September 17th, 2012, 01:12 PM
Mocha can you go to bed? I know it's probably the last thing on your mind but if you can relax and regroup, stop timing conx etc then that may help. Have a chat with Sadie and tell her that you're ready, have a cry if you feel like it! Remind yourself whenever you get a conx that each one brings you closer to your baby :-) Hugs xx

September 17th, 2012, 01:12 PM
I can call my midwife - but she doesn't work at the hospital, so I wouldn't just go in to get checked. We just use the hospital as a place to birth the baby - if all goes well I'll be in and out of there without seeing a single OB or nurse.
I'm planning to call her this afternoon to tell her what's up.
Mochagirl
September 17th, 2012, 01:24 PM
I paged my mw just to tell her what's up. I'll let you know what she says when she calls back.
Z - I'm not a napper at the best of times. I don't think there's any way I could make myself sleep right now. Luckily for me I slept ok last night - the contractions calmed down enough that I was only up 1-2 times and hour and got back to sleep quickly afterwards.
That's good advice about stepping away from the stopwatch (or, in my case, the iPhone app) and stop obsessing over timing the contractions. I'm toying with the idea of even taking ds3 and going out shopping with my Mom as a distraction.

I talked to my midwife. She thinks things sound like they're progressing normally for a third pregnancy. She thinks I'll probably go into active labour sometime in the night. She's going to call me in the morning if she hasn't heard from me and she'll have me go in for a non-stress test to make sure Sadie's ok.
I'm to call her back right away, though, of my water breaks. This may sound silly, but how do I know for sure when that happens? Just now I was getting out of my car and I felt a little gush. I was wearing a pad, though, because I've been having tons of discharge after losing my plug, so I don't know if the gush was discharge, water or pee  I took the pad off so at least maybe I'll notice if I start getting wet.

September 17th, 2012, 03:18 PM
sorry just to stick my nose in your thread but i've had my waters go twice. WARNING very much a tmi description (but hope it helps)
Firstly i know its gross but smell it (your pad) it won't smell like wee does. The amount depends on which part of your waters go. With mine i woke up feeling like i really needed a wee got half way across the landing and put my hand between my legs and felt it, there was a lot both times but my hind waters went. It should be yellow and straw like in colour and will often have a bit of your plug in it. You also can't control it, if you try to stop your wee it stops (even if harder when pg) your waters will just go like a flood gate.
Also if it is your waters it will happen again, every time baby moves or they fill up it will keep going every hour or so (pretty gross i know). I hope she shows up soon can't wait to see the baby pics x
Mochagirl
September 17th, 2012, 03:26 PM
That's great advice - thanks! I'll wait and see if it happens again. It was definitely yellow, but so is my discharge so it still could have been a gush of that. This is also TMI, but I stuck my finger in my vj - just into the opening - and it came out looking very wet and watery.
zanacal
September 17th, 2012, 03:55 PM
Hmm maybe it was your waters! Two times my waters went really obviously. I felt and heard them go pop and then a massive gush! With E they never went obviously. Right after I had her I asked the midwife when my waters broke and she didn't know but it must have been not long after I arrived when I felt a very small gush and hadn't thought it enough to be my waters! I know you won't nap Mocha but try and relax or you'll be exhausted once things really get going. Do you like baths? Sounds like things are heading in the right direction though. Sending super smooth labour vibes!

I'm sitting in the sun in the backyard right now reading a magazine, so don't worry, Z - I'm relaxing :).
The contractions have gotten a little more frequent and intense since my water may or may not have broken, so I'm hoping things will get started before the middle of the night (it's only 4pm here).

Gross again i now but if you try that again cough at the same time, thats how the midwives check (although they look with a torch and a speculum) to see if there is water there. Sounds promising x

September 17th, 2012, 04:25 PM
Hi Mocha, sounds like it could be your waters. I would let your midwife know as she may want to check you, they don't like you to go too long after your waters have broken due to risk of infection.
My waters broke with my second pregnancy, I was in bed trying to sleep and just as I started drifting off I woke up to a gush of water. I jumped up (well waddled up lol!) and went to the bathroom leaving a trail of my waters behind me! Mine kept going for probably about 30 minutes on and off until they eased off but I lost most of it in the first gush I think.
Worst bit was when I got home from hospital 3 days after having the baby I realised dh hadn't changed the sheets on the bed!!!!!!!!!!!! How gross!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

September 17th, 2012, 04:27 PM
The only time my water broke on its own it was not a flood. I bent over to pick something up and as I came up I felt a warm trickle. I had no idea if my water broke or if I peed myself (never had done either before!) I just knew it didn't feel normal. But found that extreme movements made it trickle more. The gush came when the baby came out. lol.
Good luck! I hope this is it for you!

Good Luck Mocha!!!! I cant wait to hear your news!!!
I went in yesterday to have a CTG done on bubs ( which was all good) I decided to get my blood pressure checked while I was there because Yesterday I felt just unwell and headache and funny vision. I was seeing a lot of floaters in my eyes and bright flashers. Anyway blood pressure was 160/100 which is a big jump from 125/85 so off I went up to the hospital was stuck there for hrs!!!! Anyway wee sample was clear BP came down to 145/95 I was able to come home but they are still worried about Pre Eclampsia so I must go back if my eyes play up again. Waiting on my blood work which does worry me because My Liver function is not normal anyway so just woundering what signs would be different in my liver between the ICP and Pre Eclampsia!? Just have to rest I guess and wait and see. Gee talk about a horrid pregnancy!! I hope I get a good settled Healthy baby out of this!! PLEASE that is all I want!!!!

Pinkin, I am sorry this pregnancy has been so hard on you! One thing after another for you/ :( Hope all your tests come back okay.
I have migraines only in pregnancy, and I don't actually get the headaches--just visual disturbances (I think they call it auras or halos or something?) Anyway I get bright flashes and weird sparlky lights in my vision. Is it possible that you are having that happen? Mine go away a few weeks post partum.
Rosie85
September 17th, 2012, 06:43 PM
Those are called ocular migraines and they are quite common in pregnancy! They can sure freak you out though!
Hope you have your baby tonight Mocha! I am going to stalk like crazy!!

September 17th, 2012, 06:43 PM
Hobb I have had Migraines before and yes I would say my eyes felt like the start of one yesterday, I dont usually get much of a headache with one either usually I get numbness in my arm and face and the visual part. To top it all off I am so so itchy today, I did eat kfc yesterday tho so its y own fault.
I am also starting to worry and stress about labor as I do suffer anxiety over it and because its getting closer. My plan is to have an epidural straight away this time and the midwife I asked abouyt them the other day said they dont always work and sometimes dont work very well so that has put me back to square one with my anxiety over labor. My ob said to me going back not to worry about the labor because she will give me an epidural and I wont feel a thing and now the midwife says that it prob doesnt help my BP!
Hobbermittens
September 17th, 2012, 07:04 PM
EVeryone I know has gotten relief from the epidural. The only trouble I have had with any of mine (I have gotten one all 3 times and will do it this time as well) is the epidural wore off a little towards the end, while I was pushing, but it wasn't a big deal--I could just feel more than I wanted, but wasn't in horrible pain or anything. I was still able to talk and joke around with the doctor and my DH. I just like it when I feel NOTHING, and the dr has to tell me when to push!
PeonyPrincess
September 17th, 2012, 07:23 PM
Pinkin, I think the fact that you are going to have an epidural straight away means there will be plenty of time for them to adjust it if necessary so that you have really good pain relief. I can understand some women finding it didn't do a great job for them if they had it later on, when there is no time to play around and get it finely tuned. And if you are not in pain, that will definitely help with your anxiety and your BP.
Mocha, sounds like it could have definitely been a hind water leak. GL!

Thanks girls for the info on the epidural. I dont think id mind if I could feel a bit but I have not got my mind set now for the full on labour pain.
My d/h was on a 3 day drinking bender too this weekend because he played footy grand final so I didnt get much sleep all weekend and none of that helps does it. Men have it so good I tell ya! Now footy season has finished he jumps right into cricket season!! Should of been born a man!!!

Yeah, isn't it "nice" how they can just check out, and not worry or care about any family stuff at all? My DH is like that too. He makes plans, goes where he wants and rarely bothers to okay it with me first. I never do anything, but if I do, I plan ahead and make sure he is going to be home to watch the kids. :sigh:

My MIL had to watch our d/s for 5 hrs yest because I went to just a ctg appointment but couldnt come home because of the blood pressure thing and where was d/h?? At the bloody pub of corse! Does anyone have any good come-back comments when people say things along the lines of 'gee, you're getting big'?!
I am still feeling great, the baby is a normal size, and I don't even think I'm that big (yet). One lady just about fell over when I said it was my third. WTF?! Next time I've decided to say it's my 7th, just to see what the reaction is!

So, ladies - it's nearly 3am here, and I'm still at home. I decided the gush wasn't my waters after all - I have tons and tons of yellow, pink-tinged, ew discharge everytime I have a contraction (which I assume is just more of my plug), and after close examination of my pad, I think that's what the gush was.
The contractions stayed every 10-15 minutes apart all evening, so I decided to take a warm shower and try to get some sleep. I think I did actually sleep for maybe an hour, but then the contractions got intense again.
So now, here I sit alone in my living room, having really nasty, painful contractions every 7-10 minutes. Soooooo tired. I'm hoping if I move around a bit instead of lying in bed I can get them to speed up enough that we can get things started.

wow, so much i have missed out on over passed couple of day!
Mocha, i sure hope you are either now having or holding your baby girl...sounds sure like she is making you wait, but she will be worth it!!!
Pinkin, sorry to hear your having a hard time with your pregnancy, and yeah men sure have it easy!!!
I have been ok since last week, contractions stopped. I had my growth scan today and Baby Charlie weighs around 2047g which i think is about 4lb 5ozs. It was a great scan she showed us him waving, yawning and also could see the hair at the back of his head.
I have issues with the homebirth that i want, and i feel totally neglected. I have said from day 1 that i want one and they still haven't signed me up for one :( every appt i have told them i want it but have had no info. I was meant to go to a information evening last week and when i phoned to confirm where the venue was, i was told that they held it the day before and i wasnt informed because they still haven't signed me up for one. I have lots of questions and so does my DH. I have an appt with my community mw on Thursday and if she doesnt sign me up and answer questions i have then a complaint will be going in and DH will be delivering Baby Charlie...
So much been going on here thats why i haven't been on much. My dog dislocated her hip and we have been back and forth to vets with her. My dad had triple heart bypass end of last year and we think he had a mini stroke recently, he had a scan and it shows he has actually had 3. So he cant drive for 3 weeks and i have also just become my mums carer so i am now driving them about as dad cant if they need to go anywhere x
I will keep checking in for update on Mocha, GL x

Sorry it took me so long to update, ladies. I had my cervix check and I'm still only 1-2cm and 50% effaced. She gave me a sweep, hooked me up for a NST, then gave me another sweep before I left.
She really wanted me to get done rest and offered morphine, but that made me sick the only other time I took it so instead I tried Benedryl. I just got up from maybe a 45 minute nap so I feel a bit better, but still really feeling low about how all the incredibly intense contractions I've been having haven't done much to change my cervix. It's really making me dread the rest of labour.

No - they can't use pitocin with a VBAC - it increases my chance of rupture. The most they can do is just break my water, but they don't want to do that until I'm at least 4-5cm.

As far as the homebirth, I wonder why they are giving you such a hard time? That is annoying! I would definitely make some calls and see what you can get arranged. Hopefully they can get something set up soon. You aren't that far off from your due date!

It is probably because she is birthing with a midwife, rather than at a hospital with an OB.

HappyLea, that all sounds exhausting, and right near the end of your pregnancy. It sounds like you are running around after 6 children, and probably feels like it too. I hope your DH has been able to help out? GL getting the home-birth info (how completely frustrating). One of my friends has had 2 home births and another had her third baby as a home birth (and delivered her 10lb daughter with no drugs-eek!)

Pitocin can be used with VBAC but it does increase risk of rupture and it is generally a good idea to stay away from it. Remember ladies...a hospitals goal is to get you in and out as fast as possible. If you are not comfortable with something speak up! :-)

Mocha I hope you are holding that lil one now. Just wanted to offer some encouragement. With DC #4 my midwife checked me and declared I was 3cm... she said she was going home to sleep! I was discouraged. Well 2 hours later I had my baby in my arms when my midwife walked back in the door after DH phoned her to tell her my waters had broken :)

How you doing Mocha? Hope you managed to get some rest xxx
Hobbers & Peony ~ my dog is on the mend thankfully but if it comes out again (which it has more chance of doing now its already been done) then she will need an operation to fix it. She was diagnosed with lupus early this year and is getting onto 8 years old so not sure how much she can go through :(
I totally feel like i been running round like a headless chicken the past week or so, but DH has been great and helped out where he can. He been doing the school run for the older 2 boys before he gone to work, which has been a great help.
As for the homebirth i really feel neglected and have loads of questions having never had one before, hopefully at my appt tomorrow i will get some answers! I like to be organised and if i need to get stuff in ready etc i like to have it ready but i cant do that if i dont know what to expect/get.
On the upside tho ladies i have pulled my finger out after my contractions last week, packed a hospital bag just incase and got all babies stuf out cleaned and ready :D
How are all you other ladies doing? Not long now before all these babies will be showing their gorgeous little faces....exciting!!!

Hi ladies - Sadie and I are doing well. I went into active labour around 2am last night, and as Z said she was born at 8:50 this morning. She's a lovely, chubby baby with a full head of dark hair, and is nursing like a champ already. I'll write up my birth story later, but I'll just say I found labour way too intense after having only 2 hours sleep in a 60 hour period. When I was at 7 cm and feeling the full effects of the back labour, I opted for an epidural. What a difference! I have no regrets since I got to enjoy my last birth relatively pain free - I'm not sure I would have had the energy to push otherwise.

Mocha, so excited to see your little girl! And so glad she finally arrived...no doubt worth the wait, but I am not surprised you were exhausted. Hope she is sleepy for a while so you can catch up.
Pinkin, you could sure do with something going right. Gastro while pg is just awful. And that on top of everything else. Have you been taking your DH along to your appts? I know men are usually pretty clueless when it comes to women, let alone pg women, and I was wondering if he has any idea just what a tough time you are having? While pg with DS2 and after I had him, I had a lot of heart palpitations caused by sleep deprivation and fatigue. I had to see a cardiologist, have a stress test and wear a heart monitor for 24 hours. Afterwards, the cardiologist said "You need to get more help from your family to ease your workload" and then they paid attention and helped out. I had been saying how horrible I felt as the palpitations made me feel sick in the stomach and dizzy, but I guess they just thought I was whinging! Sometimes when it somes from someone else, they pay more attention. Your DH sounds as though he is still enjoying all his usual sports and social events, but you need him right now. You have less than 3 weeks to go!

September 20th, 2012, 08:12 AM
Yeah Peony you have got that right! He just keeps going on about how tired he is because I keep him up all night ( tho he does get ALOT more sleep then me) He is also still recovering from a 3 day bender from the weekend!!! He is being sympathetic to some extent but really does not realise how horrible I feel. He told me to get out of bed the other night because I was keeping him awake and I am the one with the problem so I should go on the couch! I have been sleeping ha if you would even call it sleeping! In the lounge room for the last 4 nights. He has been to a few of my appointments but it is hard for him to get there with work. His sport most def comes first I can be honest and say that and it makes me so so angry!
I am very nervous now that there is a date set I just hope I can get some rest before then because we have such a busy september oh oh sorry I should say d/h has a very busy september!

Pinkin, I wish your DH would be more help! He sounds a little selfish, if you don't mind me saying. Men really don't understand what a toll pregnancy takes on us, but in your case, you really need more help than he is giving you, and with good reason! You have had a really rough time of it, and you NEED him! He can stop his sports for a while and help, can't he?
Glad you have a date set for you induction. I am sorry you are feeling so horrible, but it will be over in just a few weeks now!

I am 38 weeks now.... I am hoping my baby stays in until my step mom and best friend get here! They are coming on the 29th and 30th, so only about 10 days. I just want to make sure that someone is here to help with the other kids while DH and I go to the hospital. I have a few friends who can help in a pinch, but I really would rather my stepmom and best friend are here with the kids at home. Baby, stay put for just a while longer!

Pinkin - I'm so sorry you're so miserable. Your dh sounds a lot like mine - he was always complaining about how I kept him awake too - even during my 72 hour labour when the contractions were making it impossible to sleep!
Even last night, less than 12 hours after having a baby, I found myself doing almost the entire bedtime routine with my older boys solo while he worked on his computer. And today I had to drive him to and pick him up from work even though he could walk there in half an hour.
Anyway, things are wonderful with little Sadie. She's such a happy baby, and so alert and aware for a one day old. Her brothers love her so much. Last night she only woke up once all night, and all she needed was a diaper change - she didn't want to nurse at all in the middle of the night. I was concerned about her going so long between nursings, but her weight was looking great today and so my midwife said not to worry about it.
I'll post some more pictures in a bit.

Mocha she is such a little doll!! Just beautiful!
I hate the fact that I have to have my baby early I know he will be jaundice I just hope he is healthy in other ways. Its hard on me knowing he is not going to be like a term baby all alert and feeding well. Dont know why I just be healthy and have a normal 40 week pregnancy and bubs comes when he is ready I feel so bad for him. I am feeling guilty and I know I cant help my situation but I still cant stop all this guilt.
I slept on the couch last night again and d/h slept good so I guess I will just stay on the couch until he catches up on sleep so I dont have to put up with him carrying on all the time about how tired he is. Which is his own fault to begin with because Of his 3 days binge!
I am still itchy and my feet and hands are so hot , my ob suggested me going on steroids for the itch but then said to me she would prefer me not to if I can get through the next couple of weeks I said to her Id rather not take anymore medication anyway!

Gosh Mocha, I hurt my back and had to go to the ER with my last pregnancy..horrible back pain so I can only imagine what back labor felt like! I'm SO glad you got the epidural! I really would have it no other way. We really don't have to prove anything to anyone when it comes to birthing our babies. I'm glad that helped you so much! I didn't know you were in pain for so many hours though, that sucks but wow, just look at that little face! I'm SO SO Happy for you and Aurora both enjoying your little Princesses!
Mine however doesn't move a lot that I can feel and it's frustrating.. it's like doppler all the time for my peace of mind lol! I put the doppler on her when I woke up and she was kicking up a storm and had a loud strong heartbeat!

Ds3 was posterior too and I managed that back labour medication free. I was proud of myself for doing that, but I wonder if it was easier doing it not knowing what I was going into. This time, once the back labour fully started I remembered exactly what it had been like, and I knew I wasn't capable of facing it in my weakened state. I have no regrets - the end of my last labour was very peaceful, and the pushing stage was a breeze. The easy recovery is just icing on the cake.

I think that's great you were able to do that! I've been watching live birth videos on youtube lately and I ran into some "unassisted birth" ones...HOLY crap.... I just can't believe what I'm seeing.. those are some gutsy strong women..perhaps a bit stupid though incase something went wrong what would they do? Like a breeched babe or whatever, I've never really watched a breeched baby come out..until now on youtube. I've been looking into everything, preparing for anything that could happen because we just never know!
I've had my eyes opened to c sections.. I never knew how complicated they are.. there's so much in this complicated world of conceiving, carrying, and birthing our babies.
Sadie is SO cute! My SIL has a Sadiey too ( she has to have the Y on the end) and she calls her "Sadiey Sadiey, Princess Lady!" :)

Pinkin, though DD was only 2 weeks early, I was surprised by how much she wanted to sleep! She's just now getting more alert, but was sleeping beauty the first two weeks of her life, plus, she didn't have feeding issues per se, but is still awkward on the bottle and gags very easily, so need to keep an eye on her when she eats. I think your baby boy will be just fine, but I understand your worries about a little early.
Mocha, Sadie is so beautiful, and I love her cheeks, and someone said it on your FB, but I'm amazed by how wise she really looks in the eyes....she seems so peaceful too! Glad you're enjoying every minute....I still haven't quite "gotten" that DD is really my daughter--I still just love and take care of her as a baby, I don't see gender much. When I think about it how this is my daughter at long last, it's almost too much of an emotion to comprehend right now!
I can happily say though that I was worried once she was born that I'd see the love I had for my boys at birth as being not as "happy" as it is for a daughter, and while I love her, I loved my sons too the minute I met them, and I have a newer, deeper appreciation for the men in my life :) Love my boys and how gentle they are with their sister!

I went in and got checked this morning because I was having regular (though not painful) contractions every 20 minutes or so. I was sure that the baby was coming today. Turns out they were Braxton Hicks, and I am not dilated, and the baby is still -3 (not sure exactly what that means, aside from it hasn't dropped yet). She said my cervix is soft but still long. The baby is laying with its back to my back, and the head is putting pressure on my butt area because of the position. Anyway, I felt better knowing that things weren't imminent--the nurse midwife that checked me said I would make it another week. Hope she's right.
The whole time I was there being monitored, the baby's heart rate was 120-150, but mostly in the 130-140s, averaging about 130, which for OWT I know means boy. But then a nurse came in and said, "Oh, I bet that means you are having a girl!" Which pissed me off. And then some other nurse guessed girl based on how I am carrying (super low and out front) which I thought was also boyish. I know it is all OWTs and I probably AM having a girl. But I just want to enjoy my last week of denial!
Mochagirl
September 23rd, 2012, 09:21 PM
I'm glad you still have some time before your baby comes, Hobber. Don't pay one bit of attention to what the nurses say. When I was in labour with my twins, every single nurse who I saw told me they had to be girls based on all the OWTs. Obviously, they were wrong.

September 23rd, 2012, 10:33 PM
DH has been in a sour mood since Sadie arrived. He seems enamoured with Sadie, so I think his mood has more to do with my Mom being here than the addition to our family. My mom left yesterday, and I've been able to resume normal mom activities no problem. I was back in full nesting mode today, fixing a broken curtain rod, continuing to organize the nursery, and doing about a thousand loads of laundry.
Sadie is a dream baby so far. She sleeps all the time, nurses well, and hardly ever cries. We're all in love with her.
Dh at least entertained the big boys for a bit today by bringing them to an indoor playground, but he's also been very grouchy with them, yelling at them constantly for being too loud, etc.
Tomorrow will be the big test. I have to get the two big boys to and from school, get ds3 to preschool for the morning then pick him up again, then they all have swimming lessons at 4. Let's hope Sadie continues to be an easy-going baby through all of that.
Hobbermittens
September 23rd, 2012, 10:38 PM
Good luck with the shuffle tomorrow--that is what I am dreading most, getting everyone to their respective places on time with a newborn in tow!
I am sure my DH will be much the same way when our company is here. He is really bad at being social, especially when he is forced into it by having people in his space 24/7. My mom was here for 10 days when DD2 was born, and DH was a monster the while time. I hope your DH gets back into better spirits now that your mom is gone. And I am impressed that you're being so productive so quickly! How is Sadie sleeping at night?
Mochagirl
September 23rd, 2012, 10:51 PM
She's a dream at night too. I nurse her right before I go to bed, then she wakes up only once or twice wanting a nurse. I bring her into bed and nurse her while lying down, so I barely lose any sleep at all.
auroara78
September 24th, 2012, 10:39 AM
Lillian picked up DS2's cold, and is really congested. I feel for her :( she barely ate last nite, but did eat a good amount this morning.
My DH seems so strange with the baby. I know he loves her, and he does help out, but he's getting bitchy becuase he's been picking up the night shift (because he stays up anyway playing his video games and likes the peace and quiet of playing when the older very loud boys are in bed), but if she fusses for longer than a second, he loses his cool and acts panicky, like he doesn't know what to do. He was the one who was so calm when DS1 was born and helped me with some of my "crap this baby is small, what do I do?" fear...I dunno, he seems to love her, but he has no like no patience for ounce of fusisng or the smallest amount of crying on her part.
Hobbermittens
September 24th, 2012, 11:33 AM
Auraora, I wonder if your DH is just overwhelmed? My DH gets that way sometimes, and has NO patience. I worry how he is going to be with #4. He loses his temper all the time with the kids over nothing. I know #4 will stress him out too. I think it will take some time for my DH once the baby gets here. Men aren't like us--they seem to need time to adjust to parenthood, where as women can jump right in.
Mocha, glad Sadie is such a good sleeper! Enjoy it!

I want to preface by saying that I truly have an amazing husband and I have very few complaints about him BUT I know what you mean Hobber. Mine seems more impatient the more kids we have. Has a short fuse with the older kids. They're not bad kids, just alot of noise all the time and throw in them fighting sends him over the edge sometimes.
I feel kinda bad adding a 5th child but he wanted it just as much as me. He hates that we don't have alot of "Us" time. :(

My DH has been a ball of nerves since I got my BFP. He already feels overwhelmed with 3 kids, and has been dreading the addition of a 4th. The thing is, I do everything around here anyway. Especially when it comes to Sadie - I take care of her needs 24/7. He hasn't been involved in a feeding, diaper change, bath or any of the 'work' at all - he just cuddles her when she's peaceful, then hands her back to me if she gets fussy. He's also soooooo impatient with my older boys and I feel like he yells at them all the time. This has been a very emotional week for them, and I think we need to cut them some slack. When I say this, though, he just gets mad at me too!
In fact, today he's barely speaking to me, because we dropped off ds3 at preschool together and he was upset because we were about 5 minutes late. I told him it didn't matter - we pay for the preschool and can drop him off anytime (especially because the first half hour is unstructured outdoor play). He got angry and said he has things to do and I've been just lollygagging around all morning unconcerned if we were late. That got my back up - I got 4 kids dressed this morning, packed school lunches, fed everyone breakfast (including a long nursing session for Sadie), got the big kids off to school, and dealt with a very big temper tantrum from ds3 who didn't want to go to preschool. All this while dh slept in, took a shower and got himself dressed - that's it. Anyway, when I defended myself he got really mad and hasn't talked to me since. He can be such a jerk sometimes.

Yeah, that's how my DH is.... he was fine with us adding a 4th child, but isn't real to him yet, you know? Once the baby is actually here.... well, I guess we'll see how it goes! He loses his patience with the older kids a lot, because he expects a lot of them.

Yeah, Mocha, my DH hates it when I am late--and he doesn't do much to help either! He will get himself ready, and then go watch TV or whatever until it is time to go, and then complain that we are running behind. It makes me crazy!
I long for one of those super involved, fun DHs that enjoys parenting. I have a few friends with DHs like that--too bad I didn't get one!

You're right, fivebabies! He always gives me the silent treatment when he knows he's messed up and I'm right. He HATES being wrong! He also hates how capable I am with the kids and I've always sorta felt he resented me for my calm approach to mothering 3 (now 4) kids.
Hobber - I've always wished I had one of those husbands too, but I definitely don't! It's funny, because my Mom's relationship with my Dad wasn't great and he really wasn't involved in our upbringing much at all except as a breadwinner, so she made a point of raising me as a strong, feminist woman. I did two BAs and two Masters Degrees and was working as a curator at Canada's largest museum by the time I was 30. But then I got married, started having kids, and here I am in the same sort of relationship she was in! In fact, sometimes my dh is so similar to my Dad in attitudes, etc. it creeps me out. Especially since my Dad and I never really got along that well. Thank god I have my 4 beautiful kids - it means I could never regret marrying dh, since if I hadn't I wouldn't have them :HH:.

Mocha--my DH is like my dad in a lot of ways too! My dad and I have a great relationship, though. The traits DH and my dad share are mostly negative ones, sadly. I love my DH--I shouldn't be so hard on him--but he isn't exactly what I signed up for, you know?
At least you can see the positives in all of this. I think someday when the kids are older, my DH will be a little mellower. Hopefully yours will too!

God, I'm glad i"m not the only one! I was starting to wonder..how did we EVEN make this baby even when he's getting on my last nerve lately? hehe
DS2 is such a pita too. He tossed my entire dinner (I had to get the baby) it was unguarded! all over the floor...among other highlights today. I swear he has become a monster...ugh...I am trying so hard to stay patient w/ him and make sure he gets his alone attention too, etc. But if you don't keep your eyes glued to him, he will and does destroy whatever's in sight!

Wow, I've had to do some catching up!!
Congrats, Mocha! :D
So, I was so tired when I originally posted, I forgot what I said. But here's the shortest version possible. :D
I got up to pee in the early morning (typical, haha) and when I got back to bed, I sat down and my waters just broke right there, no warning. I had no contractions or anything. I called my husband (he had stayed at his mom's place since he had to work late and they are in the same town) and my mom and they both eventually got to our house. We were admitted around 8am and the Doc on call was super nice and let me labor without breaking my fore-waters (I was worried about baby position). By 1pm with not much progress, I told her to go ahead and then labor started really well. I walked and sat in the tub, etc. By 7cm the pain was at it's worst and I got back in the bed because I was nervous that baby would be around soon. 3 contractions later, my body wanted to push so I told the nurse urgently, she checked me and I was definitely ready to go. I had to NOT push since we had to wait for the doctor. Once I was allowed to go for it, Baby Girl came out (posterior!!) in a matter of minutes!
8lbs 19 inches at 35 weeks. Crazy! I was measuring big at my appointments. I can't imagine if I went the whole way. She had a week stay in the NICU that was absolute torture for me... I have the utmost respect for mommas that have babies there for super long stays. It's just the worst to get discharged from the hospital without your baby.

Sweet little Ivy! So lovely to see her and read how it all went Lynxie.
TTC5, you have been through the wringer. Good to hear you're out of hospital and hope things go well from now on.
Pinkin, I don't know how much they put on, just that it is mostly what they are busy doing towards the end. How are you holding up? Only a couple more weeks to go!
Auroara, Mocha and Hobber, I feel for you all with your DHs. I am nervous how mine will cope with this one. I am sure he suffered post natal depression after I had DS2! When he describes his memories of DS2 as a baby, you would think he just cried and never slept, when in reality he was even easier than DS1 (who was pretty textbook). Apparently depression is really common for DHs after a new arrival, so I will be watching him just as closely as myself! I think the men feel quite helpless with a newborn as the baby needs its mother so much. And because the baby takes all our time and attention, they feel neglected. Part of me thinks they should just deal with it, and another part feels sympathy for them.
Auroara, I hope Lillian feels better soon. Not nice when a baby has a cold. It is such a huge adjustment for your DS2. He'll get there, but he is still a baby himself, so he is probably wondering why he isn't the centre of your universe all of a sudden.
I hurt my back on Sunday so have been lying low for a couple of days. Went to my hydrotherapy class tonight and it feels good at the moment, so FX it is alright in the morning.

Lynxie - great pictures! I can't believe she was a preemie - she looks bigger and healthier than most full term babies! She's just gorgeous!
TTC5 - so glad you're home.
Auroara - sorry about the cold. I've had a horrible cough since coming home from the hospital and I keep worrying Sadie's going to get it.
Well, I survived the big kid shuffle yesterday. The big boys got off to school incident-free, but ds3 decided he didn't want to go to preschool and we had to carry him there kicking and screaming. I eventually had to bribe him with the promise of a new toy if he could be brave and stay.
My plans to hit the mall while he was there didn't pan out as I had discovered my new car seat doesn't work in any of my old strollers, and my new Moby Wrap hadn't arrived in the mail yet. Luckily the Moby Wrap arrived later that morning so I was able to wear Sadie for the walk to pick up the older boys at school.
My midwife came for her last home visit. Sadie was already past her birthweight at 5 days old and I feel almost fully recovered, so I don't need to see her for another week.
I picked up the boys at school, then almost immediately left for swimming lessons. All went well until afterwards when ds3 utterly refused to let me dress him. I spent about 15 minutes sitting on the wet dressing room floor trying every threat and bribe I could think of while he screamed and yelled. The entire dressing room was watching us. Eventually I had to hold him down And force the clothes on him or we would never have gotten out of there. Sadie, bless her heart, slept through the whole thing.
So, obviously ds3 isn't adjusting well to having a baby sister. Hopefully today will go better.

Sounds JUST like DD2! She is a complete and total terror. I think she is my bad karma for having such horrible GD with her. Yesterday she poured several cups of water on the floor (at different times), climbed up on the counter and got into various things, ripped up some un-opened mail, stole my phone and ran off with it, kicked me in the head (that may have been an accident because we were laying together on the couch), drew on the walls, etc etc etc. It is never ending. I have been taking it as easy as possible, because I really need the baby to stay in until next monday or tuesday. But by taking it easy, I am laying around and letting the housework pile up--because no one around here does ANYTHING except me! DH does a few dishes and helps with the kids, and makes dinner sometimes, but really, that's it He has never vacuumed/swept/cleaned a bathroom/done laundry EVER. My step mom gets here on Saturday and my best friend gets here Sunday, so I need the house to be presentable.

September 25th, 2012, 03:51 PM
Thanks everyone!!
Yep, she's totally the same size as a full-term but she definitely acts like a preemie so far! I had one really bratty woman tell me that 8lbs isn't a preemie and NICU was an expensive unneeded idea... I was like, Excuse me?!?! She was born before she was supposed to be and had to be in the NICU for the longest week of my life (warming bed, blood glucose heel pricks every 3 hours, monitored breathing, etc). Pretty sure that qualifies as premature.
She's pretty decent at breastfeeding but she tires quite easily. She sleeps awesome and so far has only been having an awake stint around 3 or 4am...but then once she calms down and eats, she goes right back to sleep. I usually pump an hour or so after she nurses so that I can make sure my supply stays okay. Also taking Fenugreek and all that fun stuff. I'm actually waiting for the Lactation Consultant from the hospital to call me back so I can meet with someone at some point. It's sort of weird dealing with preemie issues. :)

OMG...huge congratulation on the birth of your baby girl, she is gorgeous and such a good weight xxx
Just a quick update from me before i try get some sleep. Couple of days ago i had reduced fetal movement and then yesterday i thought my waters broke. Felt like little bubble pop then my knickers were wet, then trickles etc...went to delivery suite to get checked out baby still not moving so was out on monitor and his heart rate was fine. Dr did internal and said the there wasn't enough fluid for it to be my waters and she thought it was thrush. sent home with pessary thing n cream (i had no symptoms of thrush). But they booked me appt on maternity ward for baby to be monitored as reduced movement.
So off i went today to have CTG and heart beat fine but still not many movements from him so she sent me for scan which showed him moving which was great but also picked up the very little fluid around baby :( back on ward midwife and dr said i was right and my waters had gone as fluid around baby is much lower than average and as he has not very much fluid to move in this explains his reduced movements.
They are now not going to let me go past 36weeks so he will be here in next 2 weeks...eeek! She took my bloods to check for infection, i had steriod injection to mature his lungs and have to go back tomorrow for the next steriod injection.
I have to be on anti b's every 4 hours and also take my temperature every 4 hours to ensure im not getting an infection. I am getting tightenings again tho (not painful but regular then die off then start again).
I wont be getting my homebirth after all. Just hope i can keep him in a little longer. Growth scan last week put him at about 4lb 5ozs.
Sorry to just type n run but im gonna try get some sleep as im shattered.

oh wow happy lea that is crazy!! well, at least they found the issue....I hope you will have a very safe and healthy recovery!!
and lynxie, everyone was saying two weeks early wasn't anything, but I've had two previous babies (obviously) that were exactly full-term and I can see a MAJOR difference....she is still so tired, and esp. now with her cold, she is back to sleeping beauty again, I feel for her everytime I hear her make weird gasping noises because of the congestion. Your baby was born at 35 weeks, so she will prob. be "sleeping beauty" for longer....I hate ignorant people sometimes!
Hobbers, I think DD2 and my DS2 are going to be soul-mates hahah! they are both so destructive in their toddler-hood!! DS2 went on this weird crying lag today for like two hours...me or DH could not console him, and we tried very hard, finally, after enough cajoing, he finally started to clap and be happy again...but GEEZ...he is sooo much work, 200 percent more than the baby atm. I just feel like DS1 is getting ignored in all this, but all he wants to do is to play his Leapster or a computer game and he seems very happy that everyone is just letting him be, and letting him play all the games till his heart is content.

I went in for my last doctor appointment today! It seems so weird to say that.... my last OB visit EVER. It kind of makes me sad. If all goes well, I will be induced Monday. Hoping the baby stays put until then.
During my visit last week, my Dr referred to the baby as "he"; this week he referred to the baby as "she". I know he doesn't know the gender, because he showed me the u/s report and it says right on it "gender unknown", so I am sure he is just using whatever pronoun comes to his mind first. But it was great to hear the baby referred to as "he", but not as "she"! I can't believe in 5 days, I will know for sure.... Hi ladies.I hope everyone's doing ok - you're all in the home stretch. I'm sorry for everyone who's feeling down or anxious. The last part of pregnancy's hard enough without having extra stuff to worry about.
Sadie was a week old yesterday, and I'm already getting teary when I think about how fast she's going to grow up. To celebrate her first week I brought her to a baby photographer and got some newborn shots as well as some shots of her with me. On the weekend we'll go back with the boys and get some family shots for the Christmas card.
She's well above her birthweight now and is a thriving, happy, healthy little girl. This morning her cord stump finally fell off - it's always a relief when that happens because it's so ugly and stinky after some time has passed. She's still sleeping like a dream - I nurse her before I go to bed around 11, she wakes up to nurse at about 3, then sleeps until 6:30 or 7:00 when I have to get up with the boys to get them ready for school anyway. She's also pretty easy-going about trips out of the house. Today I brought her and ds3 to the very busy farmer's market, and she slept through the whole thing. She also walks to school with me every afternoon to pick up her big brothers.
So far life with 4 kids is good, despite the increase in naughty behaviour and temper tantrums from ds3 :HH:

I get teary too and actually made a status about this on my FB and got a few smart remarks telling me I should be greatful and have nothing to be sad about! GRRR

I know many of you have ideas that this is a boy, but I just can't believe it. I just KNOW it is a girl. 5 days until dooms day for me. :(
I can't wait to hear about your little one when he/she is born x x

Thanks TTC5! I think I will always be the same too as in if I have anymore they will most prob be early too. I have accepted the 9th of october and there is just nothing I can do about any of this .. Really who knows what could happen to him if he stayed in me any longer and my ob has made this decission so it must be for the best..Right?? I went for a CTG this morning and he is still happy enough so I am glad.
Can anyone tell me with dating scans are the accurate? I am just trying to work out ds1 due date because I was not really tracking my period with him so I was not 100 percent sure when I had my period and when I did do a Preg test it didnt show up until like ( what I thought was 17 dpo ) Anyway I went for a dating scan at what I thought was 9 weeks but the scan said I was 7 weeks 1 day... Then when I went for my 12 week scan which was what I was meant to be going by 7 week 1 day scan I was measuring 13 weeks and 4 days so thats a week and 4 days bigger?? anyway I ended up taking my dates from that scan instead of the early one and I can just remember the midwife saying to me he was acting more like a 36 weeker then a 37 week and 2 day baby. He did have jaundice but I had alot of trouble breast feeding him and he was so sleepy... So do you think maybe he was 36 weeks?? or there abouts... The midwife was 70 years old and had been a midwife for like 40 years!

Auroara, your kids are so adorable! Love the pictures. DS1 looks like such a great big brother. :) Thanks for the kind words; I really REALLY hope you are right about how things go for me.... not holding my breath, though.
Pinkin, I can't help you with the dating scan stuff. But I know you are worried, and I think if your Dr said that the baby is safer out than in, she knows what she is talking about. Too bad you can't wait a few extra days and have him on 10/11/12! I was hoping ONE of us would get a baby with that cool birthday!
Mocha, Sadie sounds super easy. Enjoy her!

You ladies are so nice. I really hope you are right. I just can't believe it!!
I am not nervous about the induction. I have had it done last time, and kind of with DS, too--my water broke with him, and after 12 hours I had no contractions, so they gave me pitocin. It isn't bad. The worst part is that the contractions are stronger than natural ones, so for me, an epidural is essential! I just hope the baby stays put until Monday. I am kind of uncomfortable tonight. Crampy and having braxton hicks. Stay in, baby!

I get super high BP at the end of my preg, so they go to induce me and my body decides to go into natural labor the night before! LOL Can't wait Hobber, been pulling for you for months hon! Good luck though, I hope your baby stays IN!

Hobber, in Australia we write birth dates differently...so my baby is due on the 15.11.12. So I could still have a 10.11.12 baby, but I won't hold my breath!
Pinkin, midwives are very knowledgable on these things, so I wouldn't be surprised if your DS1 was 36 weeks after all.

Pinkin, my OB mentioned the other day that by 34 weeks babies have developed everything they need to, and after that it is just a matter of them putting on weight. I know they need to keep a closer eye on their temps and sugar levels, but I'm sure he'll be just fine. At my work yesterday we were waiting to hear how a 34 week baby was going after an emergency c-section in case we needed to get a paediatrician to them (they were born in a small hospital in the NT). Turned out they were 2.69kg, and the only thing the hospital was going to do was give them some dextrose in a drip to manage and monitor their blood sugar levels. They were really good and breathing on their own from the start, so we didn't need to send a paediatrician, just a midwife to bring them and mum to a bigger hospital.

I am going in the afternoon/evening (I am scheduled for the evening, but I can go in earlier if they can fit me in; I have to call ahead to see when there is room for me), so I expect the little booger to be born either late Monday/early Tuesday. So most likely I will update Tuesday. I promise to keep y'all posted!!

I hope this is the best pregnancy weekend ever! I kinda feel bad now for wishing my last two months of pregnancy away...that may have been my last pregnancy! Hubby is kind of changed his tune now and is saying he thinks he's done :(
I really want to go back in 2-3 years to try for our 2nd DD, or just to have 4 (I like even numbers!) so we shall see.

This may sound crazy since I only gave birth a week and 3 days ago, but part of me already misses being pregnant. I've already started feeling a little envious when I see women with a cute baby bump. Not that I want to be pregnant right now - I love the newborn phase - but I'm sad when I realize I'll never be pregnant again.

Auroara, give your DH time. Once Lillian smiles at him for the first time, he will be ready to think about another. :) The newborn phase is so hard and not very rewarding at first, especially for DHs. I bet yours will come around.
It is hard to enjoy being pregnant at this stage, because I am SO UNCOMFORTABLE! My crotch hurts, my belly is so low it is HANGING, and I can barely walk. I am hobbling and waddling all over the place.

Mocha, I know how you feel. I actually really don't enjoy pregnancy at all, but I guess because I know this is my last, I am feeling nostalgic and actually not hating it as much. This morning I was laying in bed feeling the baby move, and I got kind of sad at the thought of not having that feeling for much longer. I also think I am enjoying being pregnant more because I am worried about the moment of birth when I find out gender. I have been trying to bond with the baby as much as I can. I kind of wish it didn't have to have a gender, if that makes sense?

yeah hobbers I know...I thought I'd feel so overjoyed and overwhelmed with complete and utter happiness once I held Lillian for the first time, but I just saw her as a baby--not as a daughter. Sure, she's dressed in pink a lot, but my brain still process her as a newborn that needs a lot of love and attention, and it really stunned me at first, but then I felt relief that if this baby had been a boy, I would have seem him as the same thing--newborns to me are almost gender-less, but I didn't figure that out until I had an opposite gender!
I know it seems so stupid to get hung up on the 4th child thing considering Lillian isn't 4 weeks until Monday, but yeah, it kind of bothered me that his attitude changed. He helps out with her, but sighs when he does, honestly, I think his gender disappointment with having a girl is making him reluctant. Though he wasn't crazy about newborn stage with the boys either, and I do remember him saying with DS2 (who was the hardest and still is!) that he didn't think he could do it again and obviously we've had Lillian. I feel like I"m being smart though, but not challenging what he says, I just change the topic, because this is a very, very premature thing to be discussing anyways. I definitely am 100% on waiting a few years anyway--I'm still sore almost 4 weeks out from my incision, which was longer than the other 2, and plus I want DS2 to be in preschool (he's 17 mos now and the free federal preschool that DS1 goes to starts at 4), so I think it'd be great: DS1 will be 7, DS2 will be 4, and DD will be 2-3 IF we try again. But, I am doing my BEST to enjoy Lillian right now.
Enjoy the weekend and I am still hoping you'll get the best surprise soon :)

Mocha...that is what kind of worries me, that I'm afraid I could be addicted to pregnancy, lol.
I was so miserable the last few weeks with my hip pain and not walking very well, but there is something so wholly magical about feeling life move inside your belly, and all the sweet anticipaction of wondering who the little person is, what they'll be like...I think I like the whole fantasy of the unknown while pregnant.

I suppose I'll eventually start to miss the baby bump, too... but I was seriously wanting my body back by 7 months along. I really loved being preggie, but I just couldn't handle it with another kiddo around. Plus, I really sort of miss being able to take my ADHD medication and have a functioning brain.
I remember after my first pregnancy, I would drive by the clinic I went to for my OB appointments and just get SO SAD that it was all done.
Maybe right now I'm still just in shock that my baby is already out!! I feel I haven't had much time to think about anything with the sudden labor, NICU stay, and now busting my butt (boobs, haha) getting my milk supply going well.
