View Full Version : PLS! REFUTE this Old Wives Tale!

So now as I consider moving forward this month with another attempt, I cannot shake my aunt who is adamant about this old wives tale...so please tell me this is not true for you, but if it is let me know too.. It is true for me and my two pregnancies!

She says that you take your age at conception plus the month you conceived and if it is even it's a girl and odd a boy. Example: Age 32 + 9 (for the month of September) = 41, ODD which would be a boy.

So if I try this month, I need to locate a rose quartz bracelet, salt lamp, put a spoon under the bed, and really hit it hard with diet :-) If anything I am back on to just my coffee this morning, since I majorly slipped up this week - UGH!

It's wrong for me, it says I would have a Boy. :)

Old Wives Tales are just what they sound like I've learned!

I love the - ion thing, I did that in my sway! ;)

YEAH!! Starting to breathe a sign of relief!! The wooden spoon, all I know is that it too is an old wives tale that I place under the mattress - who knows... But I figure I need to stack everything on my side just to get that one tale out of my head :)

Wrong for my first (24 and 2 for February is 26 and even). He is all boy.

Right for my second (26 and 1 for January is 27 and odd). He, too, is a boy.

Right for my DD and wrong for my DS...

WHY would this be true, scientifically? "Months" don't even exist, they're a man-made concept just for the sake of convenience and they don't even work with the natural cycles of earth, moon, and sun (which is why that pesky leap year shows up to harass us every 4 years).

DS 1 - 20 years old + 3 (Mar) ODD
DS 2 - 25 years old + 9 (Sept) EVEN
DS 3 - 36 years old + 6 (June) EVEN
DS 4 - 38 years old + 3 (Mar) ODD
DD 41 years old + 11 (Nov) EVEN

right for three wrong for two. Just a coincidence.

My first I was 30, conceived in July (7) (so odd) and she is a girl.
My second two are both odd, and one is a boy, and one s a girl.

All 3 of mine are surprisingly right! But I agree with AS- things like this are just bunk. Don't worry!!

Wrong for both my boys. I don't believe in old wives' tales. I am not putting one ounce of faith in them for my pink sway. ;)

Oddly this does work for me BUT it's a coincidence. Pay NO attention to it. If it worked, China would be full of boys!!

Feeling better with responses, but oh Nestof3 - NOOO! LOL! I love the comment about China, really makes sense! It's just once I get my head wrapped around some idea (old wives theory) that someone throws out there I just over think it!! I probably psyche my system to get out of whack as a result :(

Funnily enough it's correct for my last 2! I can't remember which month I fell pregnant with my first two though. But obviously that's just an OWT, as Atomic said, it makes no sense at all!

30+7=37 (odd/boy) and we had a boy = correct
33+7=40 (even/girl) and we had a boy = wrong
37+12=49 (odd/boy) and we had a girl = wrong

so with this one 38+2=even so it should be a girl (hope it's correct)!!

While I don't believe in old wives tales, this is correct for all four of my children :)

Right with one, wrong with one.

If gender selection was really that simple they'd have figured it out a long time who....

Keep em going, that's my philosophy. I'd rather have a few threads full of info than a lot of threads with just a post or two in them. Keep the old threads alive instead of starting a new one!!!
