I just wanted to brag for a minute about my oldest son...some of you may know that I homeschooled my older boys since kindergarten and my oldest just turned 19. In our state many homeschoolers take the GED test instead of getting a diploma.

Wyatt passed with flying colors! The way the scoring works is that he did better than "whatever" percent of public school graduating seniors who took the same test did and he had to do better than 40% of public school kids to pass, so this isn't necessarily the percent he got right, it's his score in comparison to the average public school kid. 96% in Reading, 90% on his essay, 84% in Math, 92% in science, and 99% in Social Studies! I"m so proud of him!!!!!

Yep, for homeschoolers it's considered just as good. If you were in school and dropped out, maybe not.

That's awesome atomic! We've been considering homeschooling our kids but I have to say it's kind of a scary prospect...both that the responsibility would be mine AND that I'd be spending the next 20-some years with zero time for my own projects...that's what it feels like, anyway.

I have always had a lot of time to pursue my own passions - I don't have to rush around getting everyone ready, pack lunches, etc...or drive people to school, attend conferences, monitor homework. We just do the schoolwork part and we're free! In fact, I think our homeschooling has always gone better when I have other focuses so I don't get too anal about the details.

It does have its downsides of course but everything does. Def. scary at times to feel that your child's whole future is resting on your shoulders.

Wow Mama! This is so great to read! Congratulations to your son and to you!

I have to add that I'm planning on homeschooling my kiddos for as long as I can. I will take it one year at a time, but ultimately I would love to school them through high school:) You are an inspiration to me :)
