I'm having sharp pains on my left side that feel very similar to O pains. I'm 4w3d today. What could this be? Should I call my doctor? My first appt isn't until Nov 9th, and I'll be 9w4d then. I'm worried that these pains might mean ectopic? Am I being irrational? I'm a bit worried...

It could just be your uterus stretching, if it gets really painful seek medical help.

I had a lot of pain on my left side too. I went in for an early u/s because my doc thought it could be ectopic. It turned out that I o'd from my left side and probably had 2 eggs that were ready to release and only one did. My body had to reabsorb the other one, but my ovary was swollen and it bothered me. I'm not saying you could have the same thing, but it could be the side you o'd from.

Thanks, ladies! :) You've helped put my mind at ease a bit. :agree: I got really, really painful O pains around ovulation this cycle (on my left side), then they went away for a few days after ovulation, then started up again a little bit here and there throughout the 2WW. It hasn't been bothering me very much, but today the pains are pretty strong again (kind of like they were around ovulation), and they were sharp at some times, and also like a dull, throbbing pain at other times. It does feel very similar to regular old O pains, so maybe it's just my ovary being a bit sensitive or something (this was my first cycle on Clomid, so maybe that had something to do with it)? If it gets any worse, I'll call my doctor, but it's good to hear that some other people have experienced the same thing and were fine. :agree:

ThreeMen, if you don't mind me asking - what prompted your doctor to have you go for an early scan? Was the pain bothersome enough that you gave your OB a call and explained the pain, and they just had you come in? How far along were you when you had the early scan? And were you having any spotting?

This happened to me with my first pregnancy. Turned out it was a swollen post-ovulation ovarian cyst (corpus luteum cyst I think?) combined with, um, constipation. I was a paranoid first time mom to be and they did an ultrasound to reassure me, but after some tylenol and metamucil I felt fine. Was experiencing the same pains today (I'm 4 weeks 5 days) but after a couple hours they went away so I'm assuming it was the same kind of thing. HTH.

Thanks for sharing your experience too, BZ! :agree:

Well ladies, it seems as though these sharp pains come and go...they were really bad at the time I posted this...but now they're pretty much just a dull ache. If it was an ectopic, I'd have the pain constantly, right? And it would be getting worse? I hope it's nothing, but I'll be mindful of it, and if it gets any worse, I'll call my OB. They're mild enough now that I don't see any reason to call, at least not yet.
Thanks again for your help! :)
