Hi Dr Wegner

We have had a really hard few weeks supporting a fellow mber who found out she is pregnant with a boy instead of the girl she was told she transferred.

It did not happen here in the USA but abroad in Cyprus at Genesis clinic with a Dr. Savvas that several cyclers have gone to for family balancing.

He is blaming the mishap on the technology. FISH is as basic as it gets and I know mosacism is very possible when dealing with all chromosomes except the sex chromosomes. Mosacism doesn't happen there. You either are a female or male- we don't morph and anything other than seeing 2XX or XY is abnormal.

99% is typically quoted when speaking of gender only with FISH with the one percent reserved for human error.

In your professional opinion, is there any other way this happens other than human error?

Obviously this is shocking and very upsetting for all of us but I do not want people scared thinking the technology is not sound when identifying gender via FISH.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Just to provide a little detail- she had one XY she was told after 5-probe FISH but that he "expired". The rest were female including the 2 transferred on day 5 or so she was told.
