I know this may sound crazy but i wonder if women in their 30s-40s or older are more likely to have girls? I say that because i had all 6 of my boys before 30, now i am in my early 30s. My Mother had only 3 girls. She had us in Her early to late 30s. Also 1 of my sisters had Her girls in her mid 30s.

I thought I had heard somewhere that that is true. It would make sense since their fertility is declining no?

Ditto ditto ditto!! I really want to know too!!
I know that for men, for sure, older guys conceive more girls. But the magic age is 41, and DH and I are exactly the same age, so I can't really wait till I'm 41 to realistically TTC, can I? LOL
I had my kids starting young too. I conceived my 3 boys at 24, 26, and 29. I always thought in the back of my mind that if we kept going into our 30's we'd have better luck getting a girl.......so I'm surely hoping there's something to it!

Chinese women had the highest ratio of boys to girls, followed by Filipino women, while American Indian moms had the lowest.
Dammit!!
And before LE dieting, I ate plenty of fish that I'm sure were contaminated with pcb's and crap. Doesn't seem to have gotten me my girl yet. Drats.

Supposedly this is true; however, I had all my kids in my 30's, and just had a boy at 39.

One of my grannies had her last 3 kids, all boys, between 40-45 years old.

I hope I don't need to be 30 or over to get my girl. This might be my last natural child and I was only 26 at conception...ugh

I know lots of people who had girls young. My sister and her best friend both had girls in their early 20's.

I'd be curious to see a statistical study with a large enough sample size to determine cause, though. They've already proven that older men father more girls, I haven't seen a similar study for women yet.

I had 3 boys all in my 30's - first born at 31, 2nd at 33 and third at 38. Miscarried buns conceived at 39 and now pregnant with hopefully a sticky bean conceived at 40 but don't know the colour yet!

I think been older can help sway girl because they are typically declining in fertility.. but I do think diet is more important regardless of age. I am 24 so I am definitely praying age doesn't play a huge role.

Hi 6bluewant1pink! I'm pretty new around here but your topic caught my eye.
I have three girls conceived at 31, 33 and 35. My sister has 2 boys conceived at 28 and 39.
My friends mother recently told me she was 40 when she had her son (after 3 daughters) and another friend is the oldest of 3 sisters and a brother who is 20 years younger than her (so their Mum must have been late 30's/early 40's).
There's plenty that contradicts this.
In saying that however, I do know a lady that had 6 sons and her 7th was a girl! We all wet ourselves when she called her Andie.
I have asked around a lot (I am 39 and trying for a boy after 3 girls) and the thing that seems to stick out for me is condition of the mother. Low fat, low cal, heavy dieting, run down or "low condition" seems to produce girls more. (I naturally have acidic diet and lots of calcium and magnesium). Healthy, big variety of diet, "High Condition" seems to sway boys... (Also hate red meat, potatoes, salt). Haha. I clearly have lots to change. All the very best of luck to you for a girl. p.s. The dogs wearing a blue jumper...don't tell me the dogs a boy too??

Yes, some evidence indicates that is true but the numbers don't seem to really change till over 40 and it may only be if you have your first child later and not if you already have several kids. Why Are Older Parents More Likely to Have Daughters? | Psychology Today (http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-scientific-fundamentalist/201104/why-are-older-parents-more-likely-have-daughters)
Just like with everything in swaying there is hardly any good info and experiences vary. In my family it's been mixed results - I of course had my girl at 42, but I had boys at 37 and 39. My mom had a boy at 38, my grandma had twin boys at 37, my stepmom had a girl at 38 and her mother had a girl 45. My husband's grandma had a girl at 38 after 5 boys and my great grandma had 2 boys in her late 30's after 6 girls! All over the map.

Re Asian statistics on gender ratio - unfortunately you can't trust the numbers that come out of China, India, and some of the other Asian countries because they are skewed from gender-based abortion. :( So it may not be true at all that Asians have the highest number of sons. No one should ever despair or rejoice on the basis of any of these studies because as we know, there are SO many factors that come into play and even with skewed numbers it's still about 50-50 anyway.

Here is the original study that some of that info that NBP posted, was based on. There are a lot of assumptions made about the reasons why which are probably crap, but it's the numbers themselves that are of interest.
