Here's what I've found How frequently does Down Syndrome occur? | Ask Dr. Sears® (http://www.askdrsears.com/?q=topics/child-rearing-and-development/down-syndrome/how-frequently-does-down-syndrome-occur)

According to this we still have 99% of having a healthy baby (boy lol!), sounds so much better then 1:50 ( or even 45)

Btw does anyone know how to calculate percentage from 1:50 or 1:any given number? I have no idea

Awesome ZB...to be honest the whole chromosomal defect thing shoots through my head about once an hour.

You just divide the first number by the second number...so for 1:50 you do 1 divided by 50 = 0.02 or 2%. And 1:100 gives you 1%.

Also...wanted to add that I'm not especially thrilled with his use of the term "senior mother" :nyd:

Thank you! I was trying to figure that out for quite a while

There is some research that indicates a higher dose of folic acid (between 2000-4000 mcg) may help to prevent Down's Syndrome.
