I know this is not ttc related but... My place was broken into about 2 years ago and they took all my valuables...even my kids piggy banks!!...anyway...the police officer showed me how they got in. My deadbolt wasn't completely locking all the way. Apparently this is really common and this is the easiest way that theives can get in and 1 out of 10 homes has this problem and they are unaware. I sure was! All it takes is some sort of object to move the lock over since the bolt isn't all the way in place. My gf just checked hers and all FOUR of her doors need fixing!

Oh, this is one of my big paranoid things - not surprisingly! LOL

I'm so paranoid I have like a triple redundency. On our front door we have a screen door that locks, then the deadbolt on the front door itself, and an extra hasp type security latch on top of the deadbolt (though that's more to keep the 3yo from opening the door during the day).

Patio doors are much more vulnerable than any sort of solid door though - thieves can slide one right off its track pretty easily. On our back patio door we have an extra security bar that wedges in tightly so it cannot be slid or dismounted. And on my basement windows (that are sliders) we have more dowels cut to size in the tracks so they cannot be slid open.

Finally, we have an ADT system with motion sensors. The doors also chime if they are opened anytime. As a women with a toddler home alone during the day, I always turn on the alarm system when I'm home alone.

Ooh, now I sound paranoid don't I? LOL
