Hi ladies,
I read potassium is good for making boys so i found this document while searching for info on what foods to eat. I think it's really informative, i've made my shopping list from it actually.

Sorry if you've seen this already, just thought i'd share just in case. I hope it works properly....it's my first time posting here and attaching!

Just how much potassium are we aiming for each day?

atomic sagebrush
March 25th, 2011, 12:37 PM
IG says 4000-5000 a day (combined diet and supps). I prefer you to get as much as possible through diet alone because I worry about the safety of potassium supps.

TTC5
March 25th, 2011, 05:29 PM
Thanks atomic!
The supps I have, the bottle says to take 1 tab 3 x a day.. they are 66mg strength but I have only been taking 1 and a half tabs a day.

Hey girl, what brand are those supps and where did you get them? i couldn't find them anywhere and i don't think i'm getting quite enough potassium so i'd like to get those as well.

This list is great but it's all fruit and drink. Is there a list about other foods? Like I know potato, beans, tomato, banana, meat, fish, but not much more I can think of...really not easy to cook:think:

Quinoa! 470 mg of potassium per serving. Great side dish for dinner ... use it where you might normally use rice, or eat it cold for a lunch, or cook it in OJ for breakfast and eat like oatmeal.

I have seen it in the grocery store (if you have a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's they will almost certainly have them there) or there are many places online like http://www.quinoadirect.com/?gclid=CL3m9L--5agCFUkZQgodqjKlEQ or of course, Amazon (they seem to have everything these days!!) http://www.amazon.com/Bobs-Red-Mill-26-Ounce-Packages/dp/B000EDG3UE

Just grabbed a single-serve of coconut water (Naked juice brand) and it has 650 mg of potassium! 60 calories, also 6% of calcium for those of you watching the intake of ca/mg.

OH my gosh thanks! I am really liking the coconut water because it's low cal and yet it is somehow more satisfying than plain water but it is super expensive. My husband would die if he knew how much money I spent on coconut water lately LOL.

I've been getting the kind with coconut pulp or aloe vera in it http://www.tastenirvana.com/category.php?cid=71

They have a store locator here for the Taste Nirvana brand: http://www.tastenirvana.com/store_locator.php
And it was available on Amazon and they have other varieties that I hadn't heard of yet.

Hi Girls,

I think it depends on your approach, Cemas. Personally I'm going with more nutrients = more likely to make my body think times are good for TTC boy. I think for me, my calcium intake with my girls was high compared to the rest of the nutrients I was taking it ... but with everything else I've increased (potassium, sodium, protein) I feel like some calcium in there is a good balance. With my sway I probably got my daily value of calcium, whereas pre-sway I likely got 2-3x the daily value.

Not all of us are totally avoiding calcium...at least one good study found that moms who ate calcium had more boys and a lot of us boy moms ate tons of calcium (myself included)

Are coconut cream and coconut milk also ok?

I believe them to be GREAT for TTC blue (have fats and protein and other nutrients) and is alkalinizing BUT they do have some calcium and magnesium for those who are avoiding them.

Hi Atomic , Can you please list all the diet that you took to make sure that you were getting enough potassium(4000-5000 ) for a day ??

I'm SO, SO sorry but I just spotted this post. Never be shy about bumping a post up or shooting me a PM if I don't answer, I always try to answer every question so if I don't answer, that means I missed it. Sometimes I start to answer and then have to change a diaper and never come back to it again.

I have a thread all about how to get potassium on the blue diet from diet alone in the Dream Members section and you can read that here: http://genderdreaming.com/forum/ttc-boy/8056-how-get-5000-mg-potassium-day-more-without-cot-why-you-should.html

In the Dream Members section there's a thread about how to get 5000 mg of potassium a day thru diet alone for any DM who are interested.
