Hi Ladies, I am 38 and my DH 42. We have been trying for over 6 months so last week my dr sent me for a blood test to check my egg supply. Well it has come back low. It says I have a failing ovulatory reserve. My number came in at 3.9 which a friend of mine says is really low. Just wondering if anyone else has had their egg supply checked.

I am so scared now I will not even fall pregnant. I have been swaying for a girl which limits my chances of falling pregnant anyway and now I feel I have wasted the last few months when I should have just been trying to fall pregnant. I feel so depressed and really sad. I have one DS and didn't realise how much I wanted another child, girl or boy, untill now I think it will never happen. I would be so happy just to be having another boy now. It is the biggest wake up call ever. I have a specialist appointment next week so I will be interested to see what he says. My issue is my DH is not even that keen on having another child so I know if the specialist suggests IVF my DH will not want to do it.

I don't know why we left it so late to have children. It will one of the biggest regrets of my life if I don't have another baby.

Sorry for the downer but I feel I really need to talk it out with people who understand.

You could try taking DHEA. It is a supplement that has an ongoing study for people like you that has helped many women. I took it and it helped me. Many women on the HT forum have used it.

Thanks, I will look into it.

Can I ask what the HT forum is?

Hi - I don't know what your numbers are for, but I had a higher fsh reading when I had fertility tests. I was pulling my hair out after two years ttc. But the next month I got pg! I gave up swaying as it was more important to be pg to me. But don't despair, wait to see what your doctor says first.

You can look up IVF and DHEA for more info. I know you don't want to do IVF but the benefits of DHEA still apply.

I meant to write also, yes depending on what the dr says, falling pregnant will be more important than swaying... and I will be so grateful to have another baby.

Remember low is not the same as none. i know there is a lot of info on here about increasing egg quality with supplements and herbs( macca root and red clover being two but I am no expert so hopefully someone else can chime in). I haven't been tested myself but do worry as I am 38 and DH 41. I am sending you best wishes and keep us posted.

I've also read good things about wheatgrass lowering FSH levels.

Mine is slightly elevated...I haven't tried any supps yet, because I'm working with a fertility specialist. If it doesn't happen relatively soon, though, I will definitely be looking into more homeopathic stuff.

Good luck, LO123!!

Thanks Strawberrymon and Beadinmon, I have a appointment with the specialist next Thursday so am very keen to see what he says. I have also been researching a bit on the internet. Hopefully it will all work. Good luck to you both as well.

Later, you're not so very late. I had #1 at 36, #2 at 38 and #s 3 and 4 at 41. Had to do IVF for all of them for other reasons. I hear you though on the regrets.

Some "anecdata" for you: for the last pregnancy, I did drink wheatgrass juice every day before and during cycling (disgusting!) and did acupuncture/chinese herbs as well. I don't know if it helped, but I had two failed cycles before then (1 BFN and 1 miscarriage at 10 weeks) so maybe...?

Good luck to you!

Ubiquinol is supposed to be great for the eggs of mature mommas. At the moment I am swaying for a healthy egg myself. But since swaying girl lowers fertility, it looks like I'm swaying boy! Good luck!

Hi. I'm 40 and I had apparently low reserves when I got tested 2 years ago. We went for ivf and pgd but it failed. Anyway I took Vitex for about 6 months to help with pms really and the month after I stopped taking it I got pregnant. We had given up trying! It will be my 6th.
