AF came today so this cycle we are out. We did abstain + 1 attempt. We definitely want more attempts so this time we are going to try FR. I've worried it'd be hard for DH as we definitely aren't the do it every day type and he never 'fixes' himself so he's definitely not use to daily frequency.

My question is, would 7 days before the first attempt with 1 release a day be enough to lower sperm count? I'd say on average it'd be twice a week he's used to, definitely no more than that. So would this have any effect or do we need to do a longer FR? I just don't want it to get to the point that he's burnt out come the time of our attempts because he's not used to it.

Thanks in advance for your advice ladies :)

you could try compressed FR? no need to release daily over a period of a week or two, just wait for pos OPK and then release and discard, then DTD as soon as possible within 8hrs and then again every 8-12hrs if you want more attempts. It's more intense over a short time period (a day or two), but less like a marathon in some ways!

Is either more effective? Especially with regular FR if it's happen once every night (so every 24hrs) compared to the compressed where it's every 8-12 hrs? I we do regular FR once a day around the same time will that mean a new fresh batch is ready between every release or does it take longer than 24 hrs?

Dh did FR starting cd1 and then everyday for like 10 days until first attempt...so we got in a few attempts.
Results for us = GIRL!!
Good luck

We did FR for 7 days before first attempt and then BD for three days in a row, the last day being the day of ovulation, so a total of 10 releases before O, each being once a day. We are prob similar to you on normal "habits" and DH doesn't normally take care of himself but did under strick instruction! I told him I could be asking for far worse things for him to do :)

Im in the same situation as you MSBLAKELY.

I'm anxious about FR but am scared of the risks with abstinence. GL

I'd suspect that compressed FR actually lowers count more than daily release... but no studies have actually compared the two so we don't know for sure
in general they say it takes the average man 36hrs to return to full capacity!

Okay, good to know. I'm going to assume that since DH isn't used to daily release he'll be fine with once a day. Anyone know if 5days of FR before your first attempt would lower.. or would it up sperm count. If someone isn't used to that much release.. wouldn't even 3-4 days in a row lower their count?

5 days in a row would definitely lower it a bit, although for FR I think 7 days is said to be the minimum you should aim for
