View Full Version : Can't get a +OPK

I'm on CD14 (I have 28 day cycles) and I have yet to get a +OPK. This happened to me last month - however I ran out of strips on the end of day 14 so I stopped testing.
I've barely had an EWCM.. just one amount this morning but now it's back to being more sticky. My temp spiked on CD13 but dropped this morning (I think it was just a fluke as I was really really warm when I woke up) so haven't seen much on my chart (1st month of charting)
If I normally have 28day cycles.. shouldn't I have had a +OPK by now? I normally have cramping and EWCM, but this month I've had almost nothing so far. I'm worried the diet and weight loss is messing everything up. Anyone else with a 28day cycle ovulate later than day 14?

When are you taking the opks?
I do one at 2pm, and one at 10pm, every day until I get a positive. I tend to have short surges so can miss them if I don't test twice a day.
With a 28 day cycle you could ovulate up to cd18 (giving you a luteal phase of 10 days) and still get pregnant, so it wouldn't be unusual for it to be later than 14 days.
With it being your first charting cycle, it's hard to know what is usual for you, if that makes sense! Are you checking your cervix?

I'm doing a test 11am, 7pm (I also did one at 3pm today) because I don't want to miss the serge
No Cervix checking, just charting and OPK's.. I hope you're right it's coming and that I'm not losing O

Between 7pm and 11am you have 16 hours, imo that's more than enough time to have missed your surge if you had a short one. Are your opks completely blank or do they have a faint line or anything?

The first one I took had a faint line. Then I used 3 smiley face ones all negative, then today I used two pink dye ones again and they both had faint lines.
I find it hard because you aren't supposed to use FMU but then have to wait 4 hours until next test. My temps haven't showed O though...

My opks show the best in the morning. I get up 5ish and test about 9. If I test again in the afternoon, its not positive. Then I test following morning, and again positive. You may TRY morning depending on what time you get up. I don't drink alot of coffee or anything in the morning so I don't worry too much about concentration but I dump it if its too clear.

~ALSO~ the brand does matter. Its just like pg tests. I googled all this today...test sensitivity of ovulation tests ;) What I have discovered from Consumer Reports etc is Answer brand is horrible, ClearPlan Easy is supposed to be the best. Personally, I have the best luck with Up and Up brand found at Target. But you hve to be careful because what you *think* is a positive is NOT, if you hold tight till the next day, where it will be SUPER DUPER positive :)
I am not a cervix checker either...but sometimes when you just need to know WTF is going on, it isn't a bad idea. BD if its very high, soft, open. Just in case. The pee sticks drive me mad. The cervix doesn't lie. ;)

Hi there, I have a 28days as well but some months I could get a +opk surge on days 16. And it could last only 12 hours before actual ovulation. I use CB. You miss it before the second test of the day especially on days with short LH surge.

Maybe try a more sensitive test. I buy one step cheap opks, and they're available in 3 different sensitivities, 20miu, 30miu and 40miu. I use the 40 miu ones because I seem to have high lh levels. I think most shop opks are 30miu, maybe look online for 20miu ones.

I think I'll try testing earlier to see. Getting concerned though as I've hard zero signs.. Tried to check CP and it seems high-ish (never done it before so I don't know), closed?.. couldn't really tell, wet-ish and more on the hard side I'd say. Again, first time checking so I'd have no idea what the difference between them all is!
I'm worried because we have to get a BD in by Tuesday afternoon.. or wait until late late wednesday due to DH's work schedule this week

Here's my OPK from this morning at 10:30 (after 3.5 hours of not peeing)

Thoughts? I know it's not positive.. but maybe getting close? I still have no other signs

Yep, looks like it's almost there. if you were taking Vitex I would say to hop off of it now! :)

This is my test now at 3pm (4.5 hours after last test). This is what happened last time - the morning was darker then afternoon showed nothing. Is it a possibility that I can only get a reading in the morning? This is so frustrating
FYI - I'm not on vitex or any other supplements but Folic Acid

is your urine more concentrated in the morning????

Yes, I'd say so. However it was decently concentrated with the last test I showed, but not as much as the morning and their was less in general (max 5 sec - I know they say 5-8 sec so not sure if I got enough on?)
EDIT: Just did a test 8:30pm (5.5hrs after last) and it was neg. Had a small amount of what seemed like EWCM a few hours ago and some light twinges... grrr so frustrated!
Do I BD tonight? or wait until late late Wednesday night? Due to DH's schedule it's either or...

I don't know:nails:
Because I don't know if you are like me and only get a + in the morning. Mine would be + again tomorrow morning so i would BD Wed if I was aiming for one attempt.
On the other hand, if you have historically gotten a + in the afternoon, then maybe you missed it. *that would of been awfully fast though*
I am not too strict with timing, so honestly if it were me, I would BD tonight, tomorrow and Wed and make a judgment call on what actually gets inside you if you want to be uber-swaying.

I've never got a positive test before, that's the problem!! I've only been doing all this for 2 months so I don't know how short my surges are etc. The only options were last night or wednesday night at midnight.. so we went with last night. I DO NOT want to miss O and considering I normally have 28-29 day cycles max, I'm already on day 16 so I guess this is the safe bet. Grrrr.. this month is probably another write off!!

Hiya, just to let you know I never got a positive OPK when I was trying for DS2. It was my second month on the clear blue digital and I never got a smiley face so just DTD when I saw EWCM and still got PG. I was testing 2-3 times a day so I'm sure I couldn't have missed it. I just started using them again and had one afternoon positive for the first time ever last month but my urine was very dark when I tested. I was due to OV yesterday, no smileys this months but as I drink a lot I think the tests don't work for me unless my urine is strong. I had darkish lines when I pulled the test out this morning, but no smiley.

Mrs Blakely I think you made the right call. Wed at midnight likely would of been too late if you are already on cd16...I am curious though if your opk is + again today. Or maybe normal people don't pee on opks all month long like I do ;)

Negative this morning!! What the H??
I used clear blue and had no smiley face. I'm now wishing I had of used one of my pink dyes so I could see how dark the line was. Last night at 8pm after 5 hours of holding my pee there was no second line at all! Just weird, considering how dark it was yesterday morning.
I'm wondering if I'm potentially O'ing today? and maybe my +OPK would have been sometime Sunday night and my yesterday morning test was the tail end of it?! I've had some EWCM and light cramping today and this morning my temp dropped so I guess I won't know until tomorrow morning if it spikes up.
So frustrating as now I'm wondering if BD last night was a good call. But between DH's work schedule and the kids schedules the next available time wouldn't be until after midnight on wednesday. Grrrr...

I think it was a good call...because this just HAS to be the fertile window, you know?
The months I don't buy OPKs I'm even more lost..I miss the days of ttc the boys where I just didn't CARE when O was

When in doubt, BD. you can get pg from earlier attempts, but once the egg is dead, it's over for the month.
