I read the flu is very dangerous in the first trimester and can cause autism. My boys and hubby are infected and I got a mild version of it with slightly elevated temperature. I am using sea water nasal spray but I am scared to use any cough medicines. Still I feel I am not giving the baby the best start and I don't want to cause any harm. What's your experience?

temperature is one of the worst risks of flu - take paracetemol to lower it
I actually MCed my first baby, it died around the time I had flu (quite possibly swine flu), but I was really ill as in unable to get out of bed and with a high fever

I had the H1N1 flu in the first trimester I think (or maybe very early in the second trimester) with DD2. I was really, really sick and was given tamiflu and everything. She isn't Autistic.

it is the extremely high temps that can be dangerous if you have a cough, low temps and are not feeling like your dying I doubt it's the flu. the flu hits hard and fast

I agree. My DH is a physician and says if people come in to the clinic with milder symptoms- its rarely the flu. The flu completely decimates you. I doubt what you've got is the flu!

My understanding is that it's not the actual flu that causes harm but it is the high fever that posses that risk. If you didn't have a super high fever, your baby should be fine.

I have been really sick in the first tri with every one of my girls and no signs of autism. I'm talking full blown flu where you can't get out of bed and feel like you are dying!!

Thank you ladies for kind words. It really helped me to stay positive while our household was full of bugs. Now we are all clear hopefully it will stay this way for a while :-)
