I have the nuchal translucency u/s and blood work next week (ill be 12+5). I'm looking forward to seeing the baby of course but is there anything I should ask while I am there? I also get to see a genetics counselor before the testing. Also is it common to get a photo at this u/s? I've never had the 12 week one before so I'm unsure of what to expect. ...I'm secretly hoping for a nub shot! Is that called a profile shot? What is the name of they view I need for that? And do some techs tell u what they think the gender is (I understand this may not be accurate but I'm just curious. I'm a bit nervous so I'm just looking at the pros and potential positives about getting this)

I have had the scan with every pg! I always have got a picture except when the machine was broken once! You are after a profile shot with a visable nub/ gentital tube! Baby is supposed to be laying as flat and untwisted as it can! Plus it wont work if the bub is wrong side up apparently! The techs I have seen never comented on gender and would not guess for me at this stage. I know others have had the techs guess but personally they all refused to help except one took the shot I was after with no comment just a smile! :) Everyone guessed girl! He was born 2 years ago :)

I've had a 12 week u/s with all but one and that's cause I didn't know I was preg with my first for over 4 months.... Stupid me! My excuse I was 16.... Anyway I go for mine on the 25th I'm just gonna ask for a shot with the genital tube cause that def has to to be a term they know so they shouldn't look at me like I'm crazy lol

Good luck what day is yours?

i didnt know about nubs till right after my 12 week sono with ds3... all i know is my eyes will be peeled for a long forky straight nub... cant wait to see your pic!!

Oh yes, definitely have a look. They take all sorts of freeze frame shots for measurements, perfect for getting a peek at the nub.

excellent! Im kind of looking forward to this now :D

I never had the 12 week with either of the boys, so im excited to see the baby at this stage too. The only ones i had were the super super early dating scans and then the "20 week" scan. So this will be neat!

Can they tell me the placental location? Not in refrence to Ramzi theory or anything like that, but i had anterior placentas with both of my babys and the first was face up bc of it.

Ramzi theory is only accurate before eight weeks I think and even then you can't tell by a picture cause you have no idea how the pic was taken.... I'm in Canada and they don't let you see the u/s screen until they Are done doing what they have measure and stuff :(

yes, they can usually tell you placental location...and if you point out your concern they will usually give it their best shot to determine the placement.

I could see the nub clearly on my 12 week scan and it was pretty much straight out the whole time with baby moving or pointing downward. The one I got a printout of was right after the tech shook my belly to get baby to change location to measure the neck fluid. In that one the nub looks like it may be ever so slightly angled up. My tech did guess 70% girl based on everything she saw, but also said nubs are notoriously unreliable at guessing gender because too many things affect its positioning and most nubs are somewhere in between the perfect ranges for each. I've seen so many gender opposites browsing photo galleries and tons in the boy galleries that looked like they could be girls and vice versa. I'm really not sure what to think of nubs for gender anymore. LOL
