Hi everyone
I know Folic Acid is a must and am currently taking the recommended amount which is 400micrograms (1 tablet per day).
Should I be taking any extra because I'm trying to sway pink so cutting out certain foods.
I'm not sure what food contains Folic acid.
Thank you x x x

I've just read and it says on the box not to exceed the stated dose which is 400. I've taken 1200 today :nails:

You will just pee out any extra no need to worry...

There was a study released a couple days a go saying that taking folic acid before pregnancy reduces autism by 50 percent! And obviously during pregnancy just thought I would add that as a fellow autism mom

Thank you wanting-a-girl. Didn't realise that it could reduce autism. With DS1 I didn't start taking Folic Acid until I found out I was pregnant, never use to be told to take it before hand.
Thanks again xxx

You need more than that for both boys and girls. Take the 400 mcg pills 3 or 4 times or even more if you have a history of repeat miscarriages or are over 35.
Yes, this is more than the amount that is on the bottle. Ususally it's best to stick to the dose on the bottle of herbs and vites, but folic is the exception to that. Higher than minimum doses are proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to help prevent neural tube defects and are believed to lower chances of Down Syndrome and autism as well.
Take the higher dose throughout the first trimester and then gradually wean off over 2-3 weeks to the amount in a prenatal - don't ever just quit folic cold turkey.

That is fine, you pee out any excess.
I was given 4000 mcg with my 4th pregnancy because my 3rd child had a neural tube defect.

I never tell anyone to do anything that I don't believe to be 100% safe, at least without informing them of the risks. :)
The LE Diet is a bit lower in some nutrients that may aid in folic acid absorption and so we need more than the standard dose.

Thanks Atomic. I feel better now and will continue to take 1600mcg. Can I take it all at once or spread the tablets through the day?

Spread them thru the day for best absorption.
