Hi everyone,
well our elective scan is on Thursday and I'll be 15+2 (last time, baby was measuring 4 days ahead). I am going to add 4 more pics right below and would love to get a few more guesses as what I have so far is a bit controversial. Not sure if the white line in pic 4 is even a nub. As a reminder, the baby measured 13 weeks at the time of this scan. Thanks!

Hi Ladies,
I absolutely love the nub gender theory, it's so fascinating to me. I had my NT scan yesterday at 12+3 but the baby measured 13 weeks actually. I also see a pretty clear fork but I'm not sure if that means anything. I have different kinds of nub shots so I am also adding a link to a youtube video (I recommend starting at 7 minutes). Thank you so much!

I watched your Utube video and when baby straightened its spine, similar to your second pic, the nub looks flat. Both genders can have a forked nub, it depends more on the angle. I think girl.

Thank you so much everyone!
I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. Of course, a healthy baby would be wonderful, boy or girl. :)
I didn't mention earlier that the ultrasound technician was a little on the fence (going by the nub theory). At first she said "Oh it looks like a girl" but then the baby moved and she said "Hmm, now it could be a boy." Lol...I don't know how I'll pass the time between now and my next scan.

Watched Video again and at 9.52 into it I can see she is pointing out something that 'appears' to be pointed upwards (I'm assuming this is where she 'thought' it was a boy), but if you look carefully you can see a flat nub near that area. I'm not sure what she is showing you but it's not the nub as the nub is close by but not what she's pointing to.

I think you might be referring to the area that has been confusing me as well. I'll post the same pic twice, but in the first one I circled the two mystery areas. The tech was definitely pointing at the area I circled in blue (though I don't remember if she said boy or girl at that point). Are you saying the nub is actually below it inside my red circle?

Honestly, some stills from the video really look like a boy (if I am indeed looking at the nub) and others are questionable, but overall I'll brace myself for a third boy.:xy:

Ha, thanks. What makes you think girl? I've been pouring over nub shots obsessively and it's so fascinating.
Well I am trying to convince the hubby to do an elective scan at 16 weeks, which would be March 15th. An ETERNITY from now.

Well, with that last picture I kept watching that part of the video..12 mins. I saw a straight nub.
I found out at my elective scan at 14 wk 4 days with a straight nub and it was confirmed one week later since she wasn't too cooperative.
I recommend checking the internet and looking for discount coupons before you go..but I would do it!
Mid March will be here before you know it!!! :luck:

Mine knew from the get go.. and they were right!
I was so confident that I let them tell the family when I was pregnant.
I said "Tell them what mamma has in her tummy" and they replied "A baby sister".
I hope your DS#2 is right!!!

Wow, thank you for all your effort! I caught these parts of the video as well and thought boy. So that's why I'm preparing myself, lol. Nonetheless, at other times that nub looks flat and parallel. I'm not sure if the baby's movement is making an angled nub look flat at times, or if the movement is doing the opposite and making a straight nub look tilted up. Oh what a mystery......

I think in the pics that lovemy4 has captured that baby seems hunched up and spine isn't straight. When baby straightens it's back the nub looks flat. Yes I do think the nub is the red bit you've circled. Below the blue circled area. As there is so much controversy I'd prepare for blue but I'm personally leaning pink.

Your post is giving me a glimmer of hope, haha. For what it's worth (and again, grasping at straws), with this pregnancy I have had moderate if not severe skin breakouts (mild with DS1, clear skin with DS2) as well as bb pain from the get go (and my bra size went up by at least a cup). Those things didn't change at all during my boys' pregnancies. I know very well that you can have completely different pregnancies and still carry the same gender each time, but hey, this is what clinging to hope does to you!

I watched the video again to find the spot where the tech initially said girl. This is the still of that and you can see her mouse cursor pointing at it.
Is it possible the the moments where a nub appears to be pointing up, that it's actually part of the cord? Lol...I know. I'm a hopeless case at this point. Also, for what it's worth, I'm attaching a potty shot (well I think it's a potty shot?)

I really hope I'm wrong but I think you will hear boy. From my experiences with nub guessing over the past 6 years, it is easier to make a boy nub look girly than for a true girl nub to be made to look like a boy one (like I captured from the video). Maybe your baby will be the exception.
nuthinbutpink
February 24th, 2013, 10:20 PM
The last picture you posted isn't a proper profile shot. The spine needs to be visible in order to view the angle.
The one the tech is pointing out also looks like a boy nub to me.

Ladies, I very much appreciate your expert eyes and honesty! I've been looking at pages and pages of the confirmed boy vs girl nub shots and most of the time, your guesses are correct, which is so impressive. There are a few exceptions here and there so I suppose there's room for hope.
Any more guesses are certainly most welcome. I'll make sure to update this, hopefully around mid-March when I will be 16 weeks.

I always very much appreciate it when someone goes through the effort of capturing stills and posting them on here, so thank you! I've tried to take pics when the baby wasn't moving so much because it seems as though the nub sticks up when there is movement but lowers down again and looks flatter when the baby isn't wriggling around. Another reason why I am so confused.
As for the potty shots, I posted one before and was told not to look at them this early in the game. But you are right, they look deceptively boyish and I have seen 13-week girl potty shots with not a whole lot between the legs.

Home now. I am not going to lie but as the news is sinking in, it does sting quite a bit. I know DH is trying not to show his disappointment but that makes it harder on me. He just said:"Well I had my heart set on something different but I am sure once he's here we'll have a blast." GD is a funny thing. It doesn't in any way (at least for me) detract from the love I will have (and already have) for this baby but it still leaves a gaping hole in you, one that I hope will start to close sooner than later).
Most people don't understand these feelings so I am thankful that I can share them here. I will be announcing on facebook now and I hate the fact that part of it will be half-hearted and knowing what people truly think (they pity you) but won't say it to your face.
As for the ultrasound, it actually took the tech a while and lots of jiggling to get a decent shot but once she got it, she said she was 100% sure. She showed me the three dots that you can sort of see in this photo. We had a hard time getting good shots but I do have the video of the whole thing. I might upload it later but for now I don't feel the need to. My anatomy scan is also in a little over 2 weeks anyway.

I really helps to read about others' experiences and doesn't make me feel quite so guilty and "ungrateful."
I totally understand how you feel - IRL hardly anyone understands or at least no one admits to it. It's like they think it is evil to be sad about gender. It is not that you are sad to be having a boy - obviously he will be loved to bits, you are sad that you aren't having a girl and the two are completely different things. Do not feel guilty your feelings are real and nothing to be ashamed of. I agree with the lady who sad you need time to grieve properly that way you can move on and be happy.
Congratulations again on a healthy baby.
