I'm getting nervous... Has anyone had one done? Can you tell me some of your experiences? (Please No don't do it or negative comments. I know the risks)

I had one with DS2 and it wasn't really bad at all.The only thing I can say is that it feels kinda weird to watch the needle go in your tummy and you can see it going in on the screen (ultrasound).Other than that not so bad at all- I would do it again! :) Hope this puts your mind at ease. good luck.

I had one and it did cramp like a contraction which hurt a bit but I have had 4 kids so contractions are somewhat familiar to me at this point.

Just a moment of a contraction, then they watch baby for a bit which is entertaining. So its a bit of good and a bit of a cramp but all over before you know it :)

I think I'm more nervous of the days to follow... My DH has tomorrow and Tuesday off then he's back to work, and we have a very demanding 22 month old. He's very clingy to me and is rough at times. They say 24 hours is good enough but I just want to be sure.

It was no problem at all. I had one with DD#5 and I really didn't feel a thing, maybe a bit cramp but thats all. Afterwards I just relaxed for a few days, spent most of it on the couch watching tv and not doing much. I did have some spotting for a day or two but everything was normal and fine!! Good luck!

Why are you having one? If you don't mind me asking... Hope everything is ok!? I had one (due to possible issues with baby, which thank goodness there weren't!!). The needle going in was ok, but after I nearly passed out. It then felt like my uterus was going to fall out of me, very very heavy and then later crampy. I was terrified the whole time and unless I had to, would not do it again. The 1% risk of miscarriage hung over me and when I look at my LO now I can't believe I took any chances on such a precious life. It was a very, well actually the most difficult time of my life. I just wanted to know what I might have potentially had to deal with and was worried that the stress would otherwise effect the rest of the pregnancy. As I said, unless I had to I would not do it again. Very best of luck to you and I hope your little one is alright!!

Firstly, i really hope everything is ok with the you and the baby, the worst part to it all to be honest is the worry and the wait

I had a cvs test done (done earlier and takes the placenta not the fluid) but pretty much the same thing. For me they put anesthetic to numb the area which stung slightly but no different to a blood test needle, then the test which didn't hurt at all but i hate needles so it did freak me out slightly (if your at all squemish don't look). After the test i had nothing at all and the consultant told me to just get on with things and that nothing i did would make a difference to the outcome (if something goes wrong, which is very very rare is due to infection) although he did tell me to avoid heavy lifting (but lifting my two year old wasn't a problem - in fact he'd hurt his leg that day so i spent all day lugging him around anyway) more like shifting furniture heavy lifting thats bad.

It isn't pleasant but is often necessary so do try not to worry as the stress would be worst for you and baby than anything else - once the test is done the majority of the risk is gone.

Thank you all for your responses. I had it done this morning and am feeling good. A little cramps here and there but I have wonderful DH and he has ordered me to bed for the next two days because he doesn't want anything to happen.

The procedure was very fast. It hurt once he got the needle in my uterus but not too bad and it was over before I knew it. They said from the measurement ultrasound that she is indeed a girl. She was not hiding this time lol. Thank you for your support and experiences.
