View Full Version : Will I feel terrible on the diet?

I'm used to eating very healthy, which is probably how I got my boy. I get hungry easily and have a good metabolism, but I get a real blood sugar crash if I eat later than usual. It's impossible for me to skip breakfast. I avoid fake sugars and soft drinks like the plague (can't stand them) and I don't have a sweet tooth.
Everything on the "avoid" list is basically what I eat all the time. So I'm wondering how I'm going to feel when I start to eat in a completely opposite way.
I can imagine I'll just feel weak, hungry and tired.
I'm willing to try it, but will it be as bad as I think?

It is hard at first but you do become used to it :) I also normally eat a complete boy diet... Get sugar free gum it helps curb the hunger... I still ate chicken a couple times a week cause I feel sick/dizzy with no meat in me

You do not have to have artificial sweeteners or soda to sway pink, though those are the 2 main ways people deal with their feelings of hunger between meals. I am drinking coconut water, sparkling water, and mint-flavored water for the most part, no coffee, diet coke, or anything else with caffeine in it. You can also make your carbs come more from the "free" veggies and less from sweet things if that's more palatable for you.
To be honest, I do feel weak, hungry, and tired compared to what I'm used to, but it is not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I started transitioning to the LE diet at the end of January and have been on the full diet for 2 weeks now. I always had to have breakfast within 30 minutes of waking up, and now I'm up around 6-7am and don't eat until 11am with very little issue. The amount of sugar I have with that first meal does make me a bit ill and I have to really force myself to finish it.
But, I keep telling myself that no one forced me to do this diet. I chose it and it is worth a temporary change in diet if it means a chance for my boys to have the baby sister my oldest keeps begging for. And then I go pin all of the delicious paleo meals I plan to eat as soon as I get my BFP

I do not like the way I feel on the LE diet. I feel very weak and tired, and I honestly do NOT think it gets easier. I think it gets harder as time goes on because I want SO bad to get back to my normal eating habits. I just have always been the sort of person that eats every 2-3 hours because I get dizzy, get headaches and can't focus on anything if I don't. This is just my experience, so I hate to be a downer, but it has been no picnic. :)

My hardest day was day 2. I have now been doing the diet strictly for about a week and its so much easier already. I HATED soft drinks and artificial sweeteners and hadn't had soft drinks for a long long time. Now I have 1-2 a day and don't mind them. They help curve the hunger until your next meal. Skipping breakfast has become the easiest part for me as today I didn't eat until 1pm. I am having a lot of trouble keeping sodium down below 1000mg still and use up my fat/protein before I use up my calories but a glass of wine fixes that right up:)

Thanks so much ladies!
In a way it will almost be interesting to try a completely new way of eating, and if I feel horrible on it, thankfully it's only temporary.

I can completely understand how you feel lemonade! I always ate just like you with the same loves and hates. I did find the LE diet quite difficult the first month and a half - very difficult. Headache, horrible mood swings, feeling deprived all the time. It made me realise how much I actually snack (as healthy snacks as they were). I've been on it about three and a half months now, and the salty cravings have decreased heaps, I started craving sweet things and my energy levels have come up. I'm starting to enjoy that "light" feeling in my stomach. I think that I have changed so much that when I was going to have a cheat this week (I'm in the 2WW), the thought of eating meat really turned my stomach. I'm still a bit emotional though.
It's amazing what happens to your chemistry when you play with it :-). You can do it. Just jump on in!
BTW, I've saved HEAPS of $$ on my grocery bill since I've been on the LE diet. Probably about 1/3 of the total cost LOL!

I feel better on LE diet than on low carb diet by far. LE diet has been good for me in terms of energy levels and satisfaction...I am much happier with LE then other weight loss programs I've done.

im having issues keeping enough energy up, when I have done everyone elses dinner, im too shakey tired and lethargic to do my own, so have been eating what they eat, Im doomed.
I think I do have blood sugar issues so still have to stick to whole grains etc which makes me feel even more like a failure sway wise. I have to snack occasionally on apples too or I just can't make it through the day, with 6 kids its no wonder lol

This is what's worrying me (so much I'm anxious before I start!) I am very busy/active in my job - 3 days per week and run around after my two boys on the other days. The LE diet doesn't seem to have any redeeming features! (Full of empty calories, junk and not much else) I worry I'll pass out! How does only eating low cal, no protein sway girl? Two meals, no snacks? I'm also coeliac so no wheat based carbs...

Amaunet,
I'm currently developing my own meal plan, and there isn't hardly any junk in it while i stay within the limits. (Although i must admit i have to take potassium supps ans extra salt otherwise i'll it too little of it. Wouldn't you get a sway plan from atomic? I' ll bet see can make you a proper plan!
Babygirl, maybe, if you have blood sugar issues you can take some egg whites instead of apples. I am planning to postpone breakfast for as long as possible but am pretty sure i have to eat something at 10am because i get up at 6 on workdays. Am planning two or three eggwhites for breakfast. It fits within the 40-50 g protein limit as long as you leave meat out and don't eat to much dairy.
Hopefully, i can then eat lunch around 1.30 pm and dinner at 6pm... Man, i am going to be hungry!

The only times I struggle with the LE diet now are when I see or smell delicious foods. But even then it's not to bad. I eat my rice and as soon as I've put good in my tummy I don't care anymore that it didn't taste as yummy as what others were eating.
I actually get excited now about eating matzo and houmous for dinner. Dinner time is the meal I feel most hungry for. I used to miss breakfast but I don't anymore, in fact sometimes when I'm busy an extra few hours can pass without me noticing. I eat breakfast at midday and dinner at 7pm, if I'm struggling I'll eat something between 4 and 5 and then push dinner back an hour.
Despite my being a naturally thin person I had got into very bad eating habits, eating way too much. I had put on a lot of weight in pregnancy and kept it. Doing the LE diet has got me down to my ore pregnancy weight and taught me about moderation again. I'm loosing weight very slowly now, probably because I'm at my bodies optimal weight.

This is a misunderstanding of what LE Diet is. That is what some people choose to do, while others include more fruits, veg, and whole grains. It is totally at your discretion what you eat.
Most people eat 3 meals while on LE Diet. I certianly did.
The LE Diet is based around advise from reproductive endocrinologists and the World Health Organization in terms of safe caloric intake for weight loss while TTC and safe fat/protein intake. Depending on how it's done, it can be excellent for heart health and cancer prevention and I typically field dozens of questions a week worrying that the diet is too HEALTHY.
