View Full Version : Anyone have a good diet plan for gaining 25lbs or so?

I gained 40 with both of my previous babies but since I'm about 20lbs heavier (and 10 years older!) now, I'd love to follow a very healthy pregnancy diet so I only gain 25lbs or so.
Anyone have or heard of a good book or plan? I have the WTE diet, of course, but would love another few suggestions.
Thanks!

Exercising and drinking lots of water to keep you from retaining it. I think you have to stay/get active of the pounds just keep coming!

I totally agree with that! Funny thing is that I worked out daily with both and still gained 40lbs- may just be what my body does. I'm just worried being older and a bit heavier to start with!

I gained 65 lbs when I was pg with my son. I swear I didn't go over 2000 calories one single day while I was pg with him, but the lbs kept packing on. It came off relatively easy after he was born though...I think the fact that he was b/f'ing every hour for the first 4 months had something to do with it :)

See, it takes me at least a year to get back to normal- and bf'ing makes me hold the weight too! I just want a plan for the most nutrition within 2000 cals a day or whatever is recommended without much extra.

I have found that the heavier I start out, the less I gain each pregnancy. However, I still ended up weighing almost the exact same amount when I had each baby! So for me, it seemed like my body had a certain weight it wanted to be, if that makes sense?
I would just suggested things I am sure you already are doing, like stay away from crap food and drink water instead of juice, etc. I am a terrible eater when pregnant--I always felt like it was okay to get fat because I had pregnancy as an excuse, and I went a little crazy. I also had terrible cravings like Taco Bell and ice cream, which never help!

Hmm. If you are exercising every day and eating right then I don't know what advice I can give you. I gained 23lb with DD from a healthy weight. I am already 10lb up this time already so I think I will be a lot heavier this time.

Eating clean helps. Kind of like the HE diet but only eating healthy no junk. So 3 meals a day consisting of carb protein veggie, and 3 small snacks. I gained 55lbs this last pregnancy and started eating like this right after he was born and lost all of it within 2 months. My day looks like this: breakfast egg white omelet with spinach and avocado and whole wheat toast, mid morning snack is some berries and almonds or plain Greek yogurt with granola, lunch is chicken breast salad with tons of veggies in it, mid afternoon snack is almonds and cottage cheese, dinner is chicken or white fish with brown rice or sweet potato and a green veggie and then my late night snack varies but it's always something healthy. You have the exercise part down so this should help, oh and tons of water

I second the clean eating suggestion. My version of HE is clean eating and I plan to continue it through pregnancy and beyond. And keep up the exercise.

3rd the clean eating.
So nothing with additive, msg, or preservatives, only natural occurring sugars, and minimise the white flour products.

I agree with the clean eating, thats how i did the HE diet too so i was actually losing weight when we conceived. There are heaps of books and online info about it.

Awesome, thanks everyone! Dloui, your daily diet sounds exactly where I'd like to be. Now that the baby is good to go, I plan to amp up the exercise a bit. I'm just worried about packing it on and not being able to get it off now that I'm a little older!!! And I get bad cravings, which is the hardest thing for me. That's why a "plan" or book sounded like a good idea that I could refer back to.

I craved junk food so bad with this last pregnancy, French fries and soda, I ate everything in sight! I figured screw it, it's my last pregnancy and I knew once he was born I would get right back on track with healthy eating and hit it hard at the gym

Its happening to me too, i eat EVERYTHING in sight! I never drank fizzy drinks now i cant get enough, i even failed my glucose test and had to really cut back on all the sugar stuff. I will definatly jump back on the wagon after birth too.

I normally HATE sweets- normally never eat dessert or candy or anything- and now I am craving that and soda also, which I usually never drink. Maybe it's the slight morning sickness I have, but I crave fruit and sweet stuff now, not the usual cheese and savory stuff. Isn't that weird? I guess that's partly why I'm worrying now also! I'm only 8 weeks in!
But Dloui, I may need to do the same thing you did and just get my butt in gear once the baby is born and just enjoy this last pregnancy of mine as well- without too much indulgence though.
By the way, Cinss, I am so excited for you!
