I found the greens mix powder I was taking for swaying a great help for energy and well being! I took it for the 1st week or so of this pregnancy but stopped because it contained extras which arent recommended. As soon as I stopped I came out in 2 bloody great cold sores on my lip! and my mood and energy dropped noticeably, I was quite depressed! So I started looking into one with no extras which might be ok for pregnancy.

I have picked one for now which is
70% Wheatgrass
15% Spirulina
15% Chlorella

I originally picked one with alfalfa aswell as it was wondering if it was the alfalfa in my original mix that was keeping the m/s away as alfalfa helps with m/s, but then I read that it contains phyoestrogens which can cause birth defects in boys.

After taking it yesterday I did feel more revived and was able to get a good amount of cleaning done plus my mood seemed to return to normal alot more.

Atomic would you see any problems with a greens powder to help with pregnancy? or could you recommend any other safe additions to it that could help with m/s or energy:)

Does anyone else currently or have they in the past taken whetgrass or mixes with pregnancy? Did they help??

Many thanks:)

I take a product called Inliven but not sure what postage would be to UK as I think it may be produced in Australia but not certain. It is a total organic probiotic which has spirulina in it among a lot of other things (all food based and all organic)- it appears to have organic alfalfa grass in it but I honestly couldnt imagine that it would be a large amount. To me it sounds like what you are taking would be ok to stay on but Im certainly no doctor. I never even thought to look up the ingredients for pregnancy as they are all of the food variety - Hope someone can help :)

Thankyou Bimby:) Do you feel that the Inliven has helped you in your pregnancy? Does it give you a noticable daily lift?

I just looked up the Inliven and it looks great!! No added herbs all food stuffs:agree: I'll be looking into that to see if its stocked more locally, thankyou :)

I advise against regular use of the algaes (spriulina and chlorella) in pregnancy and actually anytime really, because there is not enough data for me to feel that they are safe. The algaes make chemicals that other plants don't make, and while people in the world do eat algae, it is nowhere near the level that people consume when taking supplements.

There is some information that links ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) to inhaling/ingesting algae.

Even with wheatgrass, I do believe that to be safe (since we eat the grain of the grass and I'd think they're relatively similar), but we don't know for sure. Drinking wheatgrass juice is a relatively new thing and we don't have the data to say whether or not it's safe.

If you need something to pick yourself up a bit, I'd try a bit of extra iron and/or some B vitamins. That's what really is the "magic" of the greens powders is the B Vites and low iron during pg can make you feel just awful.

Thanks AS:) There is so much conflicting advice out there! Some people swear theyre poisons others swear theyre miracle foods! I think I will proceed with caution and just have a spoonful when I really flop. I hsve some B vits in the cupboard actually so I'll experiment withthem and see if they are giving the same effect :agree:

Actually, I just looked up the algae Gehrigs disease link, thats motor neurons to us in the UK snd thats quite scary! That batch of greens can go in the bin and I'll just stick to the wheathrass I think:agree:

I totally understand and what it boils down to for me is that NO ONE on the planet has ever eaten these things in concentrated doses - to me that's just too big an unknown to take the risk.

It is, it's just an awful, awful disease and so I like to err on the side of caution, that's what we just lost my father in law to.

Oh gosh is that in Inliven then?? I thought it was relatively safe.. I thought I was doing the right thing with that one argh! It's got spirulina but not chorella but I could be naive and that could be one and the same thing?? The rest of the ingrediants are basically foods so figure they'd be ok..

ELP I have taken Inliven this whole pregnancy (I only take 1/2 a ts a day so a lot less then they say) and I feel pretty good this time as opposed to the other 2 pregnancies but that could just be coincedence too so who knows..
