View Full Version : 15+2 weeks, 3 dots = boy for sure? Updated with video

Well I'll post this potty shot from today's elective scan just to get some confirmation from other expert eyes. The tech tried for quite a while from all different angles and even had me lay on my side, but this is the clearest pic we got. I do have a video but it is even less helpful than this shot. That said, the tech seemed super confident and said that this is 100% a boy because of the tree dots in a triangle shape. I am 15+2 today. DS2's potty shot also happened to be taken at 15+2 but we saw an obvious turtle.

Thanks for your input as always! :)

Divotka, I am not a sonographer, but the shot is not clear at all. I wouldn't rely on it especially at this stage of the game. Save your tears till 20 wks, when they can tell more accurately!

It's really dark.

Thank you for your responses. I am trying to upload the video to see if that would help at all but it's all over the place. Both baby and tech were moving like ninjas, lol.

Alright, here's the video if anyone wants to have a look. It's about 12 minutes and I really won't expect anyone to watch that whole thing, lol.

Baby was breech with the bottom all the way on my lower left side so the tech really had to get in there.

That has to be the worst ultrasound I've ever seen and both my boys' ones were bad! You can hardly see anything!

But, from what I did see I'd agree boy. I just don't want you to get your hopes up. But definitely find out at your 20 week scan.

And how horrible that the tech started typing girl and then realised the mistake!

The quality of the scan is very poor, they must have used an out of date machine. I had lots scans done privately and on the state but the visibility was never so bad. Did you have to pay for this?

Oh man. I was wondering about the quality as well. The tech was very nice and she did feel bad about accidentally typing girl first.
And yes, I did have to pay. $99. :(It was the closest place around here to do these ultrasounds.
That said, we went to find out the sex and most likely their boy guess is correct....

Def not very good quality :( that's dissapointing

It's either an older machine or if you are a heavier woman, I've seen ultrasounds look like this.

I do think the profile shots look like there is a nub pointing up which would make me think boy.

I believe she is a tooth pic based on her baby bump pics lol

Thanks for the input. I watched the video again I think that despite the poor quality, the outcome will be the same. I'm a normal weight for my height, my bmi is 21 or so.
I am disappointed though that we didn't get a better video. DH wouldn't have minded waiting until the 18-week one so I can't tell him this since we spent $100 on it!

Horrible quality!!! You can get awesome quality elective scans here for $39 at several places around here- glad I saw the name of the chain so I never go! It definitely looks boy, but without a good potty shot I'd wait to confirm.... Congrats either way, and sorry it wasn't more conclusive!

I agree that 90% of the time it was hard to tell what the heck the tech was pointing to or what was going on. But I saw a couple shot that looked pretty boyish to me. One of the first profile shots, after she erases "baby boy," you can see it sticking up as the baby moves. I would be pretty unhappy with the quality as well :( I would certainly get confirmation. But I think it's a boy.

I think that it was a boy however, I couldn't even make out femur bones?? At 15 weeks potty shots need to be very clear to really see what is going on down there. The u/s quality is very poor overall. I had a hard time making out what most of the things on the video were. I did see a profile shot that looked more like a boy nub. Sorry you spent the money and didn't get a good shot:(

Is this the nub in the profile shot?

Just wanted to say congratulations:-)I think its really cool with three boys. Before I had my dd it was my dream to have three boys. They will have so much fun together!I understand that you feel sad right now though because it was not what you hoped for.
Your boys are super cute!
I cant see anything on the us, tried to watch the video but I dont see any gender clues.

Thank you for sharing Navywife! Yeah I am pretty sure at this point that I am cooking another little boy, lol. You'd think they could give us better u/s pics though to prove it!

Definitely a baby boy (if I have time this evening I'll try to do some screen captures) but the tech didn't seem to know all that well what she was doing. Sorry you had to pay $99 for such a poor quality scan. Congrats on your little guy, though!

2 of my 3 very best friends have 3 boys (1 has a girl as her #4) and their families are amazing! I'm sure yours will be as well, but I completely understand needing time to adjust.

Youre welcome. I was in the same situation as you and had people telling me it was not a definitely not a good shot. I actually paid and went to another place. I kind of got my hopes up and I wish I didn't. Congratulations on your baby boy!! He will be just as cute as your other 2!

My DS had 3 dots as well. I come from a family with 3 older brothers, almost all my aunts have 3 boys and no girls, and my cousins and my brothers adore their mothers. You will always be their first love.

Thank you everyone for the encouraging comments. It's been a couple of days now since we found out and the idea of having three sons doting on me is growing on me more and more. :)
