Hi,

I am following the blue diet as much as I can before we ttc or blue baby :-)
I take a prenatal supplement as well as cod liver oil and folic acid (2000mg). I am worried as I have noticed that the latest tub of cod liver oil also contains vit A and B.

Is vit A harmful when ttc?

small doses of vitamin A are not harmful, its high does of it that can cause birth defects. Your better off getting your vitamin A from the foods you eat and your prenatal. I don't think you need to take cod liver oil, I would replace it with fish oil instead

Yes, Vit A has been shown to cause birth defects in higher than normal levels. the proponents of cod liver oil have explanations about why cod liver oil is exempt from those concerns but I think, "better safe than sorry" when dealing with a child's health. Vit A that you get from fruit/veg is fine, it's the supplement form you need to watch out for.

Thanks for the advice Atomic. I think Ill steer clear of the cod liver oil capsules. Is it still ok for my husband to take them or does the same apply? we have been taking 800mg each daily.

When looking for Fish oil, I will still aim for capsules (as the thought of neat fish oil makes me hurl!!). Is there anything I should be looking out for? Should it say Omega 3 Fish oil? Or just 'Fish Oil'?

Thanks again
