So apparently they are more common in pregnant women and need to be treated, to avoid it becoming a kidney infection (which can be serious).
I woke up Saturday night / Sunday morning at 3am with massive stomach cramps, blimey they were so painful. I thought might have been stomach bug or food poisoning, but they lasted until 12.30pm the Sunday. By that time, I'd called the out of hours doctor, was told to go to hospital. I was crying in pain at points, couldn't get comfy and they were stabbing and frequent pains just under my ribs.
Apparently I have some type of urinary tract infection. He said I had traces of blood in my urine and I am now on antibiotics for a week.
Really scary night - I genuinely thought at points that I might be losing the baby, the pains were worse than labour. The only aspect that stopped me worrying was that I had felt baby moving the day before.
I thought I'd post, just in case anyone else gets it, they might think it could be a UTI (which I just totally didn't even consider - hence my complete stress it was the baby!). I wish I'd known how UTIs feel, it would have stopped me worrying quite so much.
I'm so appreciative and relieved baby is OK though.

Glad that everything is alright with bubs!
I had the same thing happen when I was utd with ds3 although not quite so severe. To top it off tho, I also had thrush! Ugh!
Rest up and take it easy and hopefully the ab's kick in quickly!

I've been feeling really weird all weekend. I felt like i was getting ill on sat and had cramping like pains in my tummy - felt like bad period pains or possibly tummy bug type pains. This turned into a strange stabbing rhythmic sort of pain to in what felt like my chest sunday morning -it felt like labor pains and came and went but was in the wrong place and so bad. Pumped myself full of paracetamol and its gone back to just pains in my tummy and lower back ache today.
I thought i was going into early labor but nothing has come of it and baby has been going mad. I rang the midwife and they weren't bothered as its not contractions, they just said take paracetamol and rest, she did ask me if i have any pain or trouble passing urine which i don't but does any of this sound similar to the things you have been experiencing?
I have never had a uti before but am completely at a loss as to whats going on with me but its so uncomfortable/painful although it does ease when i'm off my feet and i don't feel ill
Really sorry your feeling rough - it sucks being rough when your pregnant as you can't just feel sorry for yourself, you have all the added stress that something maybe wrong to! Hope you feel better soon and the antibiotics kick in quickly

MrsP - yes, that does sound very similar to the feelings I had. I initially thought it was food poisoning, as it felt like stabbing pains and constantly hurting. Hurt all over, but just under my ribs in particular, particularly when I was moving around. A bit like the pains you get before diarrhea / sickness, but worse. But it did also feel a bit similar to period pains too (although more stabby).
Can you book a Dr appointment? I don't know if it's a UTI you have or not, but if it is, it does need to be treated, as it can (although minimally) spread to a kidney infection, which is a more serious for pregnant ladies / babies. What does your wee look like? In hindsight, I realise my wee has got more 'cloudy' recently and also (probably tmi!), but has got more smelly. Though it didn't hurt me to wee at all. Are you weeing more frequently?
My Dr did a quick check on the urine - he looked to see if there are traces of blood in it (which there was, but I hadn't realised that), which is the sign there is an infection.
Oh and I've also had more back ache the last few days too.
If I were you, I'd get checked over (although I'm sure just one of those pregnancy things, I am one of those better safe than sorry women!). Hope you feel better soon x

yeah i think i will try and see my doctor - i thought it was a baby problem til i read this and tried to see my midwife but she is fully booked and the hospital weren't interested. I am going more than i was but then i am needing to drink more so just thought that was why and i was thirsty but i have noticed my wee has changed colour so think its maybe best just to rule it out just in case. i did have a trace of blood in my urine at an earlier test but it had gone by the time i saw my midwife a week later but maybe there is something underlying - thank you for the advice x

it is good to watch for warning signs before uti get sthat bad. i had it last prego with no symptoms at all just came up postive in the reg urine test. Usually feeling like you still have to pee after urinating or pain while urinating are common beginning symptoms and that is when you can drink lots and lots of water to get rid of it and keep it away. keep up on your water and take some probiotics so you don't get a lovely yeast inf.(from atbx)

I have a UTI now and have gotten a few with each pregnancy and even had a few kidney infections with my last two pregnancies. Most with no symptoms.
This UTI started with an urge to pee all the time, with a stabbing like pain in my urethra. Mild cramps and pain in my kidneys that progressed more painfully throughout the day.
I always error on the side of caution and say, if it doesn't feel right better be safe than sorry. UTIs can turn into kidney infections (which can be very threatening to you and baby) VERY quickly and if you've had them before, you're more susceptible to repeatedly getting them. Go to the Dr, Urgent Care or the ER.

When I was 28 weeks pregnant with ds2 I starting getting contractions while at work and was transferred to the women's hospital. Things eventually settled and I was found to have a uti which I was completely unaware I had as I had no symptoms. Very scary. Was given antibiotics and everything resolved. Uti's r very serious especially in ur 2nd and 3rd trimester
