View Full Version : Question about NUB predicting for Pros, and Techs or anyone with insight???

Ok so I got my 12w4d scan but the pic I got gave me no real insight to what my baby might be because the full nub was not captured. I promised myself I would not obsess about the nub and move on, EASIER SAID THAN DONE RIGHT? So I just have my mental image to go by at the moment. It was long and obviously forked but the angle was one of those that could go either way. My question is about the fork in the nub. I know and understand the theory of the angle of the nub but after going through a TON of confirmed boy and girl nubs I have questions about a few other things people look at. It seems boys are more nobby at the top and/or sometimes have another small line on top of the nub. Girls seem to be forked more often but boys have forks too some times. Well upon examining the "forks" more clearly, there seem to be two different types of "forks" at the top of the nub, one sits on top like a U and the other literally splits or forks. Does anyone know if one or the other of those types of forks tend to be more boy or girl?

This is the split or fork nub
9961

This is the U fork nub
9960

Or can anyone tell me any statistics or just enlighten me more on the other factors like forks or knobs or line above nub ect and what they usually mean. I want to know of course for my own selfish reasons, but mostly I really enjoy trying to guess the gender of these scans, but I feel like I need to know a little more about these other factors in addition to the angle??????

PLEASE HELP??????

Oh I agree they both look girly I just wish I knew more about forks or the knob on the top of boy nubs just all those little extra things people look at including different shaped forks.

I have a feeling by going by my many hours spent obsessing over nubs that yes boys do tend to have a bulky bit on top of nub while girls can have a disconnected bit under nub but at the tip.... Please someone correct me if I'm wrong-this is just my impression/interpretation

You're right I've noticed the disconnected bit under the nub in girls too! Do you have any idea about the different looking forks?

I was told by a tech that forks had a lot to do with the angle of the probe and both boys and girls have bumps and forks! In saying that if the waves are like light in a photo it would make sense that the ones angled up would look more bulby than the flat ones would be more forky! So I guess it just depends on the machine and the tech and the angle?

These next 9 days are going to go by so so so very slowly! I just wish I would have asked my doc to get a good shot of the nub, I am such a scaredy cat!!!! I know she would have done it, she is very nice. I'm planning on boy though!

Getting daily emails from zuily makes that hard lol... I am def prepared to hear boy.... I will actually be surprised if its a boy this time mainly cause this pregnancy is very different then the boys... Bit symptoms don't mean anything right... Here I go rambling again lol sorryb

I really think you're having a girl, Thorz. My girl had a really long flat nub that sort of forked "down" a little at the end.

I agree your pics look really girly! I am the same way I can't even look at girl clothes! I bought those girl shoes to make that announcement but took them back to the store immediately so I wouldn't jinx myself lol!

Well these pics aren't mine, I just grabbed them off google search to show the two different forks! Mine looks more like the top one but I didn't get a good shot! But I hope you're right I really would like a girl.

THe problem with this thread is that this isn't Thorz' picture. She grabbed it off the internet as a picture that LOOKED like what she thought her baby's kinda looked like and I don't think we actually KNOW if either of these is a girl or not.

Now, Thorz did end up having a girl, but those aren't her pictures!! So this is not going to help anybody unfortunately.

I guessed on your ultrasound, fruity, but I could not really pin down the baby's gender.
