My hormones are so out of wack that my reproductive system is broken. Seriously. Due to wanting a baby at that very moment and because of PCOS, I conceived my son with the help of Clomid + IUI over 3 yrs ago.
Since then, I have lost 20 lbs and want to conceive on my own, as naturally as possible, and deliver a healthy and happy baby girl. Is that asking too much?
So, I get some digital OPKs just to see if I may be ovulating on my own, since my cycles are pretty regular (31-33 days). Every month around cd 17-19, I get a + OPK. Great, I'm at least surging and even my RE said that if I get a surge then she is pretty certain I am ovulating. Problem #1: Ovulation = good to go.
Now, I want a girl. So I start the diet but realize due to Insulin Resistance (main reason behind my PCOS), my body can't tolerate it. No biggie, I will just do supplements and check my pH. Also added in RepHresh to help me maintain that 4.5 pH. Problem #2: Right Environment for Girl = good to go.
After 2-3 cycles of negative pregnancy tests, I decided to go to the RE to see what's up. I got a + opk the day before my appointment so she did an u/s and saw an indention where I "possibly ovulated but wouldn't get my hopes up." Since I was leaving for vacation the following week, I was scheduled to get blood work done when I returned, which was cd 35 for me. (I wasn't too alarmed about the late period because travel always delays my AF.)
AF arrived 3 days later and I called the RE with my period start. Talked to the nurse because I didn't want to start a Clomid cycle right away ($850 per cycle, just to be monitored) and asked what she thought the problem could be, based on 3.5 yrs ago. She mentioned that I had high testosterone (not good for a girl sway), insulin resistance, and something about androgens which caused me not to ovulate. So I ask if I could get put back on Metformin for the Insulin Resistance (sways pink) since the RE's office starts with Met to help jump start ovulation in PCOS clients. She says she will talk to the RE and get back to me once my results come in. Great! So in the meantime, I will see what I can do to lower this testosterone.....
My fasting bloodwork results were communicated to me today. I did not ovulate last month. Since I have lost a good amount of weight, my insulin resistance is not a factor; as a matter of fact, I am not insulin resistant anymore. Hmmm, ok, so what caused me not to ovulate? My progesterone level was a 1.3.... nope, not a typo. I know it should be 15. Mine is a ONE-POINT-THREE. The nurse said with a level that low, I'm annovulatory. Sigh. So now, I have scheduled a follow-up with the RE to see what plan B is. And I'm a little bummed because this totally puts a kink in my girl sway.
In the meantime, I have ordered vitex and will be taking that until the RE tells me to stop. Because of 2012 vacation plans, we won't TTC until Nov/Dec.
Thanks for reading if you have gotten this far. I think I needed to vent more than anything. In the meantime, this infertile girl will pop in and out occassionally to read about anything that may help my future sway and most importantly, to read about your success stories!
