View Full Version : Charlee's 12+5 NT scan pics - potty shots and possible nub

Charlee

Here are my NT scan photos! The u/s tech seemed pretty convinced it's a boy, but what do you all think? I've heard potty shots at 12ish weeks are totally unreliable... take a look and give it to me straight! I will be going for a private scan in about 2 weeks :)

I think its an obvious boy.

Denial is sweet, as it lets you adjust to reality but I firmly believe this is a boy and probably not what you want to hear. xx

Charlee
June 6th, 2013, 12:18 AM
Actually all I WANTED to hear was that baby was perfectly healthy, and I did hear that :) Gender is not nearly as important to me as a healthy baby!

Potty shots aren't very reliable at all at 12weeks as both genders have a protruding nub and the only way to tell is from a profile shot to see the angle of which the nub is on.....I can't see a clear nub shot from your pics so I am going 50/50....Goodluck at your next scan and I really hope you hear girl, but I completely agree with your comment above.....all we really want is a beautiful healthy baby :) x

Charlee, I wouldnt read too much into the potty shot at this stage honestly. At the side view doesnt give a clear nub shot unfortunately. So I say there is still hope for your little girl! Good luck and keep us updated!

June 6th, 2013, 03:55 AM
Charlee, congrats on your healthy baby. I agree with the others, no clear nub shot and 12 weeks is too early for a reliable guess.

Keeping my fingers tightly crossed you hear girl in 2 weeks.

June 6th, 2013, 07:02 AM
Charlee At 12 weeks the nub would look like a willy between the legs on any genders potty shot, I'm sure. Gender guessing at 12 weeks should be done by the nub/profile shot :)

Charlee
June 6th, 2013, 09:42 AM
You all said EXACTLY what I already thought :) My DD had a VERY large protruding nub at this stage too and the u/s tech said she was a boy too! I'm shocked they don't know about this theory?!?! Both times they were totally convinced it was a boy, yet when we got the chromosome test back for DD she was definitely a girl... *SIGH*

This baby would not give us a nub shot! I explained exactly what we needed to see and baby would not cooperate :( Well, guess we wait for the private scan :)

Charlee

Anyone else have any insight?

Wanting-a-girl
June 6th, 2013, 10:30 AM
I know potty shots arnt reliable at this stage but the ones I see like this do usually end up being blue... Although my cousin was told boy at 13 weeks and then had a girl

So I would say your chance is 50/50 still

When are you having a gender scan?

Charlee
June 6th, 2013, 11:52 AM
See, that's what I'm thinking too Wanting... like they might not be reliable, but unless everything is really swollen, this looks like things are starting to protrude, not retract into girl bits... I hope I'm wrong, but I kinda doubt it at this point LOL

I'm going to call this morning to make an appt for my private scan... probably about 2 weeks from now when I'm around 15 weeks. I figure by then we should have a better idea :)

The Anchor
June 6th, 2013, 11:57 AM
I think that's a boy Charlee...and probably just as sweet as your other two. Brothers are wonderful!

Charlee
June 6th, 2013, 11:59 AM
For the record though, my parents were told they were having a boy with me... I guess I was really swollen too LOL...They got the shock of their lives when I was born a girl! But this was 32 years ago when ultrasounds were not nearly as reliable so it's hard to say...

My sister was told she was having a boy with her oldest (who is 25 now) and also got a nice surprise when her DD was born... maybe the women in my family a have large clitoris... now THAT'S not embarrassing! Bwahaha

I am going to think boy until proved wrong though :)

Charlee
June 6th, 2013, 12:01 PM
Yes Anchor, I believe you are correct! haha

What the hell am I going to do with THREE boys?!?! Someone save meeeeee!!!!

Wanting-a-girl
June 6th, 2013, 12:09 PM
Lol three boys are fun... I wonder what I will do with four lmao :)

Make sure u update when you get your scan :D

Charlee
June 6th, 2013, 12:14 PM
haha yes well if I go for a fourth, I'm sure I will be in the same spot! My boys are really wild, they are sweet too, but my house is already organized chaos! I just think a third will take the "organized" right out the door!

I will definitely update when I get my scan :)

That's very early... Maybe pish it another week if you can :)

Charlee
June 6th, 2013, 01:33 PM
I know it's early but I'm not sure if I have the patience to even wait that long!!! It's pretty cheap here in California, so if that one seems ambiguous too I will just go again the next week... haha

Wanting-a-girl
June 6th, 2013, 01:37 PM
Well if it's cheap and your able to go again... Then their will be no harm :)

I know thorz was told boy at her 14 weeker but I think that tech was on crack cause that did not look like a boy lol... Anyways I think if it's a boy it should be very clear at 14 weeks... So I can't wait to see ur update :D

This thread made me laugh out loud!! Thanks for the entertainment, girls. I can't wait until two weeks from now to see what you find out Charlee!! :)

Charlee
June 6th, 2013, 01:55 PM
Glad you had a giggle this morning! :)

Yes I think by 14 weeks, if that nub was going to protrude it will be blatantly obvious by then... if it's going to retract, we should be able to tell that too. Since we have something to compare it to, even if it's not clear cut it should tell us which direction it's going to go :)

June 7th, 2013, 06:49 AM
Sorry, I don't know about potty shots at. 12 weeks. And I can't tell where the nub is in the profile pic!

Totally agree though whatever that healthy baby is most important!

Ps please will you have a guess on mine... :-)

June 7th, 2013, 11:42 AM
I am thinking you are welcoming a third prince :) My oldest son had a pretty obvious "part" in between his legs at 13+1 and the tech wouldn't guess because of gestation. However, the part didnt go away ;) I think it *could* be swollen parts...but I am thinking it's smart for you to assume boy until proven otherwise. Lol.

Congrats on your healthy little bub. Beautiful baby! (Massive clitoris or not. Rofl).

Wanting-a-girl

June 7th, 2013, 10:44 PM
I swear if this poor thing is a girl she will NEVER live this down hahahaha... I just don't see how it could all tuck in from this point BUT... they changed my due date to 12/13 so I was only 12+5 at the scan AND baby was only measuring 12+2 so maybe its taking a while to mature??? Grasping at straws I know LOL

Tree
June 7th, 2013, 11:10 PM
If the potty shot was even remotely reliable at this stage then I'm sure we would see as many of them as we do skull and nub. I don't think (from my limited understanding of potty shots at this stage) you can take anything from it at all!!
I read about the nub theory, which was investigated in the hope that gender could be ascertained at an earlier gestation for genetic related to gender issues and it discussed angle and shape in profile but nothing about between the legs. These at the people at the top of the profession so I'm sure they thought to look in the 'most obvious place' of between the legs but found it wholly inconclusive.
As I said before I can't see a nub... Think you are just still at square one with regards to guessing the gender. Perhaps this is a good thing, the endless nub analysing I'm doing is very tiring and I still don't have a clue! :-)
Good Luck!!

Wanting-a-girl
June 8th, 2013, 09:03 AM
I think that baby is measuring small is a good sign for it turning to a girl :)

I have lost a lot of faith in nub theory these days... Especially after seeing a perfect boy nub end up being a girl...then there was my nub lol.

If I ever were to have another baby,.. Which I am not lol I would totaly skip the whole nub obsession thing

I can't wait for your u/s :)

Grasping at straws I know LOL

Remember, implantation can vary from 6-12 days, making due dates kind of flexible even if you know when you ovulated your baby could track up to 6 days either side depending on when they implanted.

I agree, potty shots at 12 weeks are not at all reliable. The side shots don't show the nub. It's not over yet! Omg June 14 isn't far away!!! So glad you are doing a private scan. I would also confirm again at the 20 week scan just to be sure.

I remember Thorz going through all that only to find out the tech was wrong!

Charlee
June 10th, 2013, 12:17 AM
June 14th is only a few days away now! While I know there is still a small chance I could hear girl still I don't want to get my hopes up... only to have them crashed down again. If I do end up with a girl it will be a great lesson not to trust 12 week potty shots!

I just hope I'm not jumping the gun in going right at 14 weeks instead of waiting till 16 weeks... it would serve me right for being so impatient! Haha

meeks32
June 10th, 2013, 01:18 AM
I am also of the impatient persuasion so even if you are going early, I probably would too!!!

ps lol lol lol just read the rest of this thread. Bahahahaha

June 10th, 2013, 01:51 AM
Based on what I've read I'd say its worth waiting... Even at 16weeks they can be wrong! Or why not go now and get a good nub shot? In profile! Done properly they seem pretty accurate!

meeks32
June 10th, 2013, 02:08 AM
Arent nub shots only accurate at 11/12 weeks? Either way Tree is right, ask for a nub and a potty shot, and ask gender, since its a gender scan. If you can wait to 15 or 16 weeks it may be better. Or if its cheap where you are, you could always go twice! lol

Tree
June 10th, 2013, 02:57 AM
Maybe Meeks, I had thought they worked into the 13th week if early but I don't know that for certain.
We really need to befriend a tech for all our ultrasound queries!!

Emily
June 10th, 2013, 03:09 AM
It would be totally worth waiting. You should wait. That is the sensible thing to do. Not knowing is killing you this time round so imagine how you will feel if you get a inconclusive scan again.

That said there is absolutely no way on gods earth that I would be able to wait. If scans were cheaper here I would have one with my cup of tea every morning! I had a tonne with DS1 as there was a machine in the docs office and she loved hearing the heart beat and seeing him pump his little fists. I am a scan junkie - nothing to do with finding out gender just seeing the little baby makes me turn to mush!

Meeks on another thread you said that nub theory was more for fun than exact science. Is that depending on how many weeks or is it always a bit hit and miss? I have seen a fair few nubs that ended up being the opposite of what I thought so I am starting to think that nubs might actually look different for each individual baby.

Charlee hang on in there, lots of people have been given the wrong sex even with a proper 18 week scan (my poor cousin is one - her boy had no visible penis and was told girl) so a potty at 12 weeks is probably a 50 50 guess at best. I would go in there thinking boy as self preservation (and let's face it you make awesome boys) but knowing that the fat lady has not sung yet.

BTW, on my 10 week scan I had what I thought was a perfect nub shot (i know they dont angle yet but thought the practice might be good) until I read that you can't see nubs at 9.5 weeks so I must have been looking at the thigh!!!!!! I am quite the expert it seems;)

Tree
June 10th, 2013, 03:59 AM
I think for us it's more for fun because without the perfect shot we can only guess. For those with a good clear shot I think it's pretty accurate.

Here is the official study

I can't open that, but here is a good study: http://www.baby2see.com/gender/study_ultrasound.html

It seems 14 weeks pregnant (12week old foetus) is the perfect time for nub theory so Charlee get that nub shot this time for sure! And potty shot for fun.

Charlee check this out if you are stressing and need to read more about nub theory: Nub theory - official study! (http://www.genderdreaming.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30675)

Awww you're such a good friend Meeks :) I actually read both the baby2see thread and the official study before going to my NT scan! haha I'm a research whore LMAO... Must be all the years in College as a adult LOL

I can tell you FOR A FACT that my baby looked EXACTLY like the girl CGI image on baby2see during the scan. The pics aren't that clear, but on the screen it clearly looked like the labia majora with a small penis sticking out haha... (geez the things we say on this site lmao)

I don't know.... All I can say is that I was really really sure this baby was a girl. I guess my private gender scan will tell us more... although I think I might be jumping the gun by going on Friday. It's only $60 though, so if I don't get a 100% answer, I will go back the next week.

Yes my DH, my parents and my boys are all going on Friday.... talk about pressure! LOL... I couldn't bring myself to tell them no though... they are just as curious as I am.

If I do in fact have another boy my house is going to be total chaos!!! My only saving grace is my other 2 are getting older (they will be 8 and 6 when this new one is born) so at least they can help a little....

Whatever comes to pass I will embrace it with open arms... this is the way God has decided my family should be and I will trust in the big picture :)

I say boy. I think potty shots are actually pretty reliable at 12 weeks. It was super obvious with my son also. I don't really see why people say it isn't, I know that their is something protruding with both, but I think the difference is usually super obvious at 12 weeks.

Charlee
June 11th, 2013, 10:14 AM
Well I very well may be having a boy, and that's okay with me :)

But I don't think potty shots are very reliable at 12 weeks, otherwise we would all be looking at those instead of side profile nub shots.... the official study that we are all taking our guesses from analyzes the angle of the nub, not the presence/absence of a protruding nub... so while some might be "obvious", others will end up being opposites so it really leaves us nowhere to guess on those. I couldn't get a proper nub shot at my NT scan, so I posted these pics knowing that many ppl would guess boy because of the way these pics looked...

It's still exciting to find out what your having! Believe me you are going to love him soooo much you will forget how bad you wanted h to have a vagina... My third boy is the one I wanted to have a vagina the most and I literally have the strongest best bond with him!

But I am still hoping that you hear girl :)

Charlee
June 14th, 2013, 10:01 AM
Oh I absolutely know I will be so in love with another little boy! For me, I think it's because I swayed and tried so hard for a specific outcome.... I'm super ambitious like that. So it will be more of a disappointment that I failed in my venture.... not that I won't be thrilled to have another sweet little guy. It's about the hype at this point.... my mom is just as motivated to get a granddaughter from me because I told her I would name the baby after her... so it's about letting everyone down really.

This is probably why I've had 3 boys already... because I'm so competitive! haha

Are you going to try for #4 if this ones a boy? Im making DH get fixed before I can even get baby fever lmao! My limit is 4 and it was three until "baby vagina" fever hit me ... So we are doing it while I'm thinking rationally lol...Although I'm not letting him do it until this little guy safely makes his appearance

We are like a bunch of crack addicts looking for a fix. I admit I am semi-stalking as well!! You better update this thread too!!

Interestingly enough, it seems more husbands are right on guessing gender than wives. My husband has never been wrong, even when I was pretty sure DS2 was a girl. And he swore up and down our third child was a girl...low and behold, she is. I was dead convinced she was a "he." I will be interested to see if your husband is right as well!

You have a great outlook on it and I am really happy for you finding out for sure (fingers crossed) so you can plan and enjoy getting to know that little baby in there.

I'm getting a boy feeling to be completely honest. Hope it's a girl for you though, I know what it feels like to have lost your much longed for baby girl

Charlee
June 14th, 2013, 11:56 AM
I will update this thread first! :) I am totally up in the air about having a fourth to be honest... this pregnancy has been really rough so far and it's definitely making me second guess ever doing this again! haha It's like God's way of saying "You are done after this..." LOL
If it was up to DH we would be having a fourth regardless of this ones gender.

Northern - So you really just hit the nail on the head.... this is the underlying reason for my disappointment that I didn't want to mention, mainly because I don't want to be a total bummer LOL... but it's like insult upon injury to lose a little girl and then be given a boy. I know I shouldn't care about gender BECAUSE of the loss but it doesn't necessarily work that way... In a way I feel like it's a big sick cosmic joke to have my dream taken away like it was.

But then I go back to the undeniable feeling that there is a bigger picture obviously, and I HAVE to trust in that... no matter how hard it is sometimes. I guess being so driven is bad in this way, because when I don't get what I strive for it's a huge disappointment. I'm not a very good loser! haha

I just need to be told I'm having a boy so I can get OVER it and get to shopping LOL... a little retail therapy might be just what the doctor ordered :)

It's funny you mention this, because my DH has been right every time too... so that's why I so desperately want to believe him this time! But I think he's suffering a bit of GD to be honest... I'm not sure his intuition can be trusted this time LOL... I will know in a few short hours hopefully!

(LMAO about the crack addict thing hahaha... I am totally guilty of this too! It's just so fun to share in other people's experiences though!)

I just wanted to wish you luck and let you know that I love your attitude. I really hope you have a DD in there.

If not, you will get over it soon enough and I can honestly say that my 3 boys are my world. DS3 has already taught me so much in the short 2.5 months he has been here and every day I look at him and my heart just melts. I couldn't imagine my family being any other way and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

Good luck today! I just read through this whole thing and I gotta say, I love your attitude as well! My DH is also pretty insistent that we have a girl this go round and I wanna believe him, but I think like yours, he is just wanting a girl too. Hope all goes well!

I really don't think you can take anything from those pics at all, girl or boy!! What you see between the legs could very well be cord or something.... I think you have just as much chance of hearing either!! Good Luck! Xxx

haha Thanks! Only about 11 hours to go now.... I think today might be the longest day in existence LMAO

You guys know I'm going to hear boy though LOL... I can't even let myself think otherwise! I am repeating the mantra "I will not cry. I will not cry. I will not cry!" haha Think it's going to work?? LOL

You can totally cry if you hear boy. I did with DS2 and I adore him (he is so amazing I would never have considered number 3 without him). You will probably cry irrespective of gender just seeing the heartbeat ing and limbs moving around - so emotional and beautiful.

Congrats on a health sticky one of whatever colour. X

Congrats on another amazing little boy!!! So fun that you finally know and can start planning everything!! I actually think it gets easier when you're sort of expecting it. My first two I thought it could easily be a girl... this time I don't even think it's possible for a girl so hearing boy won't come as a massive shock. Congrats again, and enjoy shopping for that little prince!

LMAO.. we were too!!! luckily dh FINALLY agreed to a name i've always loved since high school.. I get 100% conformation if it's a boy next week(which I obviously know) but it will give us the green light(in dh's eyes) to start monogramming some baby stuff, lol

Congratulations Charlee!! A beautiful healthy baby is all we can ever really hope for. And it's kinda funny how we focus so much on gender (perhaps because its the only thing with two variables) when actually gender doesn't determine heart, soul and character - and these are the things that truly define a person not whats going on between their legs. :-)
Boys are absolute treasures! Well done on being so positive. There is no doubt its disappointing when you've got your mind set on something, at least in this situation you have something equally wonderful to embrace, which it seems you most definitely are!! Congratulations again!

You know what my theory is? You did everything possible to sway and this is your outcome. So what, it would have been this way without swaying, but you would have wondered if it could have been different. Now you know you tried your best, and this is the bub that REALLY wanted to be in your family to get past all those sway factors. The fact it took a long time to conceive shows that you tried very hard with a very hardcore sway for a long time and that didn't work. Maybe dh has only boy swimmers, who knows. But you tried and this is the outcome, no what ifs.

Congrats honey this healthy bub really wanted you and you want him just as much. At least you found out now and can deal with feelings of GD over 20 weeks so that you are totally embracing the situation by the time you give birth. Xxx

June 14th, 2013, 11:05 PM
Meeks you of all people know how hard I swayed for NINE months!! Am I disappointed? You betcha! LOL But what good is it going to do to be upset now?? I gave it my all and got this little boy in return, so he must be something special :)

Congratulations Charlee, he must be one determined little fella to get through that sway! At least you now know, I think the waiting and the suspense is the hardest part! 3 little boys, brothers, and hopefully best friends! Will be wonderful!

Charlee, I'm sorry it's taken me so long to post (internet problems). I first of all want to congratulate you on a perfect, healthy little boy! However, I am so so sorry that your dream of a little girl has been crushed this time. It is a cruel twist of fate but you are one strong, loving lady and I know this little one will steal your heart effortlessly. I really hope that you can be at peace with the idea of ds3 and enjoy every minute with him when he comes to join your family. I admire you greatly and draw a lot of inspiration from how you've handled this news. Congratulations once more! :hugs:
