Are blood sugar levels important preconception or just around conception and a bit after?
How do I know that my blood sugar ison the low side? I am a chocolate lover:)

We don't know, and since we don't know, we need to aim for keepign them low all the time. I suspect but don't have the data yet to show, that keeping blood sugar low for weeks/months in advance of conception will increase odds that you will conceive the "proper" gender, because it would be silly for your body to conceive a baby with less than ideal odds of survival.
It doesn't matter what your blood sugar level is per se. What we are going for is NOT exactly low blood sugar in and of itself. It's that when your body runs out of fuel and your blood sugar levels drop, THEN your body has to raise its own blood sugar levels to keep you going by burning off stored fat and muscle for fuel. So by skipping breakfast and avoiding snacks, we are sure that your body doesn't have any quick fuel coming in most of the day, and has no other choice but to burn your fat/muscle to keep you going.
