Hi All,
I have just started the girl diet, hopefully I am eating the right things but I had a few questions.
Is it important to make all the changes now, esp dramatically reducing salt intake along with the other diet requirements or are some of them only important leading up to ttc?
I am hoping to ttc in about 6 - 8 weeks so I am trying to get things sorted now.
Also I am dramatically reducing my calorie intake, but is something like that important this whole time or only in the few weeks leading ut to ttc?
I kind of find it hard to find things that I can eat, I guess there is prob not much. But what I am finding is that a lot of the food is pretty high in carbs, is this ok for the girl diet? For instance a lot of rice and pasta, I thought I could eat bread until I looked at the sodium in it, I think I saw a recipe here and will look that up. Are creamy sauces ok with the pasta? WHat about a tomato based sauce? I think we can't have tomotos but what about if it is cooked?
I am sorry for all the questions, especially if they have already been answered somewhere else. I can't believe I am so close to trying so I want to feel comfortable with my sway...I plan on getting all of the calcium and magnesium in my diet, no supps. What would I eat for the magnesium or would you all recommend supps more? Gosh I sound desperate dont I. lol

I've got three girls and had been losing weight for months prior to each conception, I rarely ate bread or pasta and hate tomatoes. I would say since you're ttc in 6-8 wks I'd go cold turkey right away. I wasn't swaying but inadvertently did everything right, gl and please have all my pink dust :)

Thanks 3PinkNeedBlue, looks like pasta and bread have to go too, wow this diet is very limited. I know I can do that though aslong as I can see it is not forever. What would you have as a bread or pasta replacement in your meals? I would love to give you all my blue dust too :)

I thought you could eat pasta on the girl diet. I was going to base my main meals around pasta and rice dishes??

Yes you can have rice and pasta and low sodium bread, that´s better than protein or fat food.
Boymom Try to eat the pasta and rice without sauces, they usually have a lot of salt and calories.
I dont know if you´re a snacker, but for me not snacking in between meals and eating a smaller breakfast, just yoghurt (for now) has made me loose a lot of weight easily! I also eat a salad before lunch and an apple before dinner, so I´m not that hungry and eat less.

ok thanks girls.
I usually do snack so that is a bit of a struggle, but not as hard as trying to check the sodium in everything.
I thought I was allowed to eat jalapenos until I realised that the sodium was g not mg...that was disappointing :)
I have cut out breakfast but do have a few morning coffees, I was going to give these up but I think I read somewhere that they make you acidic so I will switch to decaf and just reduce the amount.
So is salad ok to eat, I could do that for lunch as long as I could add a little something to it like small cheese or chicken or something?
I am going to make some lo-sodium bread too.
And I am going to have to find a health food store to buy some cranberry juice without added sugar, I also noticed that the cranberry juice I did buy from the supermarket was no added sugar it had a certain amount of potassium in it, is that normal?

Jude17- It is allowed just don't go nuts. I literally weighed and measured everything eating only 1 serving of rice or pasta.
Boymom - I ate a sandwich everyday it was with Sarah Lee Delightful but that was my only bread. Dinner was 1 serving brown rice, 1-2 servings chicken or turkey burger, usually broccoli and a glass of milk.
Again I never swayed but from discussions with other girl moms I think it's much more about limiting calories, lots of cardio/exercise and weight loss.

Tomato sauce is ok on the french gender diet as well as cooked tomatoes but i wouldn't do it all the time. Creamy sauces are ok but make sure their low in salt. I was eating them when ttc my dd but this time I skipped them and just put yogurt or cottage cheese on my pasta. I found the my local bakery would bake no salt bread for me. you might want to ask.

Thanks girls....I was also wondering if the whole breakfast fasting thing (ie lo suger levels) is important the whole time or just leading up to ttc. Like if I was doing everything I could to lose weight, reduce salt, potassium, increase calcium magnesium and just basically reduce calories, is the sugar level thing important now or untill the days of conception..I hope that makes sense:)

So how much did you exercise? Was it just cardio? What type of cardio? How many months were you loosing weight and on a low cal diet? I too am struggling with exactly what I should eat. Right now I am doing a low calorie (1100-1200 calories a day) diet with lots of calcium 1300mg and magnesium 320mg and low sodium 650mg and Potassium 1750mg. Just wondering what you did to get all those girls!! :)

6-8 weeks is PERFECT!! I would start everything now for best results.
Any bread recipe you like is fine, you simply convert them to low sodium by leaving out the sodium and then using unsalted butter/margarine for the fat content. Or you can make French bread which should have no fat in it.
Here's a thread that has a few suggestions/recipes, although not as thorough as I would like for now.

It's prob. best to take a small amount of mag supplement since most of the foods that are high in mag are not strictly allowed on the girl diet.
It is ok to eat bread and pasta BUT they do have an awful lot of calories in them.

Yes, but they are very very high in calories and easy to go overboard.

Eh, I personally think the coffees are ok. Switch to decaf if you like or even half-caf. I don't think you need to be utterly miserable to sway pink. Watch the amount of cream and sugar in your coffee though because this is a hidden source of calories first thing int he morning.
I think iceberg lettuce salad is fine to eat, with cucumbers. Cheese is strictly a no-no but low sodium cheese you can have. Or a hard boiled egg. I personally believe it's best to eat low-protein, about 40 G a day of protein so whatever you want to eat with your salad, you should consider how much protein it has in it.
Pretty much ALL foods have some potassium and you need it for your health. Cran juice is a great place to get it.

Unfortunately we don't know yet, but it just seems wise to err on the side of caution and skip breakfast for the 6-8 weeks prior to TTC. If you can't do it, that's fine, just be sure to do it a few days before O and during the 2WW because XX fertilized eggs seem to develop best in lower glucose environment.

You need more sodium and potassium than this - 700-1000 mg sodium and 2500-3500 mg potassium. This is for your health - you can DIE if you do not get enough potassium!!!!

Here is a link to a thread that has info from a lot of girl moms talking about the kinds of diets they followed prior to conceiving their girls.
http://genderdreaming.com/forum/showthread.php?1877-How-we-made-girls...by-girl-moms!-(PINK-DUST!!!)
I also know that a lot of the moms who want boys, did take things like vitex and antihistamines, not realizing that they sway pink.

Sorry to high jack this thread with a different question, but I was wondering if anyone else is SNACKING when they are having AF? I am just ravenous this cycle on AF. I had to have two hand fulls of cereal this morning along with my morning cup of joe. I then worked out ( cardio only for 60 mins. ) and was able to not eat until noon. I did good at lunch but right after dinner I had some meringues ( no fat or sod. in them ) but they do have 25g. of sugar!! UGH. I was still hungry after that and had a bag of no butter and no salt pop corn.

Man this girl diet is very confusing to work out. Would it better to eat more rice based dishes for dinner i.e. I was thinking of alternating between eating rice and pasta with either girl veges, or cottage cheese, or low salt cheese (if I can find some) and a little unsalted butter for taste? Is brown rice ok or is white rice better for the girl diet? I won't be swaying for awhile so I will be really interested to see if people do actually get girls more than boys using this diet and all the other sway factors? What serving of rice or pasta would you eat i.e. 1/4 cup per meal?? ?? I will skip breakfast when I can i.e. waiting for 4 hours from when I wake up until I eat something?

you guys are fantastic with all of your help.
I will change my rice to brown rise and only eat a small amount with dinner, maybe half a cup. I love cheese and can't find one that is low in sodium other than soft cheese.
I am going to stick to this as best I can, but other than my husband nobody knows about my swaying and I plan on keeping it that way so I don;t want to draw any attention to what I am not eating either, plus if I do have to cheat on the rare occasion I am OK with that because there are plenty of girls born everyday to moms that ate a bit of salt etc. I have to have my mind in the right place with this whole thing, set my plan stick to it and try not to obsess over it all, what will be in the end will be:)
pastelpicinic -As for the snacking question, I think you are doing great, I don't think a handfull or 2 of something is bad, I guess I also just think that anything in the direction of the girl diet that is a drastic change in our normal eating behaviours has to be a good thing...sounds like your doing great.
I am ok skipping breakfast, I just have to be careful because I have been having a few coffees in that time which does have skimmilk and sugar, next week I will ditch the sugar.
I know a few girl moms that love their milk drinks, I don't so I am going to try to get stuck into those too, skim milk though.

I'm doing the same thing Boymom, with the coffee. I also alternate eating brown rice and white rice at meals. I'm usually ok to skip breakfast because the coffee fills me up and has always helped me with my am cardio workouts at the gym. It's just my dang AF that has thrown me off the last 4 days.

That is totally normal and I think snacking is ok during AF. Obviously it's not ideal but it will not make or break your sway.
As snacks go, I think meringues are actually pretty good as is the popcorn.

It's only confusing because there are like 4 different diets happening and everyone has their own approach in addition - some people are doing one diet, others are trying to combine all the diets together, it does get a little muddled at times. I am going to try and make up a diet JUST what I believe is best, whetehr that will complicate or simplify matters I'm not really sure! ;)
What you have listed there looks fine, alternating between veggies and low-sodium cheese.
I think white rice is better due to the lower nutrients but if you can't live without brown rice, that's ok (better than a hamburger!!)
For best results, I would eat one serving of rice or pasta and that is very very small unfortunately. 2 at the most. :( (that's why I want people to get pg quick, so they don't have to diet for long). I would stretch the meal with a salad of iceberg lettuce and cucumer and also green beans, with fat free yogurt for dessert and peeled apple slices.
1 Serving Equals...
Breads, pasta, cereal, cooked grain, etc. •1 slice of bread (looks like a CD case)
•1/2 a bagel (the size of a hockey puck)
•1 cup cereal (looks like two hands cupped together)
•1/2 cup cooked grain or pasta (one cupped palm)

I think your right about the diets, and because we are reading everything to try to get all the info out there I know for me that is where I confuse myself and gets things mixed up. One diet that you think is right would be awesome. Like one plan of attack really.
Looks like I can stick to white rice, but in small servings.
Is it only iceberg lettuce, is that for the low nutritional factor?
Oh yeh I had another question (surprise surprise...lol) I was wondering at this point should my main focus with food be reducing the sodium or upping the calcium/magnesium? I only ask because often it is a compromise and I was kind of wondering if salt was the main thing here. Kind of like if I had to choose when eating something because I have noticed that some dairy things are high sodium aswell. I hope that made sense?
Atomic can u let us know if you create that diet, no pressure though.
I have not been checking my ph, do you think I am neglecting a major sway factor by ignoring that?
Also I was wondering with the negative ion thing how people know that girls like neg ions and if surrounding myself with them would be beneficial or could it potentially have the opposite effect, does anyone know if anything in tis area has been researched and proven. I will have another look but I don't think I saw anything like this anywhere, mind you things here are pretty thorough so I probably just missed it, just trying to work out if it is going to be part of my sway.

Yes, I think iceberg is best for the low nutrition and also the fiber which will help remove fat from the digestive tract.
Unfortunately, with the minerals you must BOTH up cal/mag and also reduce sodium and potassium. It's because the French Gender diet believes that it's the ratio between the two that matter. So if you don't change your diet and just take cal/mag supps, that's not enough and in fact I've seen a lot of people have failed sways that way. (I don't believe the mineral ratios personally but I do think other aspects of the FGD sway.) I completely agree about the sodium content in milk, it's quite high but it is allowed on the FGD. In the paid members section, nuthinbutpink has posted the FGD and you can read all the info in the book there (we had to do it that way because of copyright).
The Oxford study (the study that I prefer and that I base much of my diet advice around) also found a higher sodium intake in moms of boys, so since both the FGD and the Oxford study agree on sodium, I tend to put more stock into sodium mattering than calcium - the Oxford study disagrees with the FGD on calcium, they found higher calcium intake in moms of boys, not girls.
I don't think pH is a big deal at all and in fact I think not checking pH helps keep you relaxed about swaying, which helps keep testosterone low.
The ion thing is not proven or even researched for gender ratio. Ions do exist and certainly fulfill functions in the body but I have seen no evidence that makes me believe that bracelets, ion lamps, etc sway at all. The link on IG which is supposed to support ions is a website selling ion bracelets and didn't have anything at all that I could find about gender swaying. I have not written an ion essay yet. I will at some point, but for now there is so much stuff that I feel has much better science behind it that I hate to waste even a second on ions TBH.
