Hello, I am 14 weeks pregnant and suffering from viral fever, cold and cough. The fever goes beyond 101. My doctor prescribed me Sporidex 500 along with other medicines like paracetamol, karvol plus inhalant and cough syrup ambrodil.
Sproidex 500 is an antibiotic. Is it safe to take antibiotics during pregnancy? Does it have any side effects on the baby? Please suggest as it is already second day for my fever.

Thanks.

Some antibiotics are NOT safe but your dr knows your preg right? If so I would hope he didn't give you a dangerous one... I will look it up quickly for you tho... When I was 10 weeks I was on clynidimicin and a nervous wreck about it too

Hmmm I can't find much about. This one... I think maybe you should call your pharmacy and ask the to make sure it's okay...

If its a viral illness, antibiotics will do nothing anyway. You are far better sticking to regular paracetamol to keep your temperature down and riding it out. Lots of fluids and rest.

Why would you take ABs for a viral illness? Get a new doctor I'd say

Unless its a bacterial infection, that is causing fever, antibiotics won't help. With viral you just need to keep your body well hydrated. Take paracetamol, fruit rich in vitamin C and rest up!

ermmmm I strongly doubt the doctor would have gave it to help your virus maybe it was prescribed as its gone to the lungs you also said your on inhaler and cough syrup, sounds like it would be a pretty bad cough for all them things maybe he thinks you have an infection on your lungs.. If you doubt your doctors advise personally I would just go and get a second opinion from a second doctor rather than put off treatment for 3 days..lung infections can be very nasty and having a fever when your pregnant can be dangerous paracetamol is the best for temps at least take that to keep your temp down while you work out what you want to do!! I have taken antibiotics in pregnancy without issues.
