View Full Version : A couple reasons why I LIKE the girl diet

so instead of being negative about this diet (b/c yes it's hard). I wanted to share a couple of things I enjoy about it. Maybe you have some too?
I actually like white rice, and I normally eat so healthy that nothing with the word (white) would go through these lips.
It's kinda nice to eat regular pasta instead of "whole grain!"
It's an excuse to have some chocolate milk in the middle of the day (I use a very small squeeze).
Sometimes corn flakes cereal with strawberries and some equal hits the spot!
An egg beater omelette with a little cheese fills me up in the am. (I am eating breakfast till week of O).
I would never drink a diet soda before and even though I think it does make me a feel a little bloated and yucky...it does taste good!
Ice cream, in moderation of course...but it is full of calcium!
Anyone else finding things on this diet they like? Oh and I have lost 3 lbs this week!!! woo hoo.
I'm an optimistic lady and I hope you can share some positive feelings as well.

Thank you so much! This made my day!!!
I like the girl diet because I actually think it's kinda good for you - I always lose weight when I go on it and the low sodium is good for your blood pressure.
Plus, Yoplait Light cinnamon roll yogurt is really yummy!!!

Well, I am still on week one and have lost 6 lbs. I like that my stomach is flatter than it has been for a very long time!
And I tried skim milk for the first time and I love it! I never would have tried it without the diet.

I like that my tummy is now flat as a pancake! I was still holding on to a bit of a pregnancy belly before starting the diet. I am becoming very addicted to low fat yogurt lol.

This is a treat to read! It's been two years since I did the diet last. I'm gearing up to do it again, but I've been dreading it, honestly. This gives me a whole new perspective!!

Thanks for this, it's just what I needed! I'm just about to start the diet in preparation for TTC this summer, and I was making my grocery list and feeling kind of sulky about it.

I naturally eat the girl diet (hence, two girls!) and I like it much better. I think it is better for you, also. You girls enjoy looking slim and pretty...while us boy swayers wallow in our fat pants! LOL

To answer your question, I did supplements (cranberry, calcium, magnesium + prenatal and folic acid) plus diet for six weeks. I stuck to the diet (which was VERY different from the way I usually eat) really quite well. I would hold off on breakfast until about 10:30 - 11:00 and then would have a strawberry smoothie (1 cup skim milk, 1/2 cup plain non-fat Greek yogurt, 1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries, 10-12 ice ****s, and 6+ packets equal in blender - it makes enough for two big glasses, so I'd always freeze one to thaw and eat the next day) every morning. These are really yummy and I never got tired of them - they motivated me to stick with it! The rest of my meals would revolve around calcium-enriched pasta (in purple box), egg beaters, white rice, crystal light, green beans, cucumbers, chicken, corn flakes, strawberries, raspberries, low-sodium bread, unsalted butter and a little parmesan here and there. There were probably a few other foods in there that I can't recall off of the top of my head, but those were the biggies. I drank some milk, but didn't over-do it, either. I wanted to be sure it didn't add to much of the boy-friendly minerals to my sway. I don't care for the taste of yogurt, so the only time I ate it was mixed in a smoothie. For timing, we abstained for a week or more before we began our sway and then did frequent bd (am and pm) for a couple of days until I had a smiley face on my OPK. I didn't use replens or anything like that, but I did use sudafed before bd and I did get up and use the bathroom right away - no hip propping. I was down about 10 lbs from when I had conceived my boys (from chasing them, I suppose) when I started the diet. I lost about 5 more lbs on the diet. I'm not a very big person to begin with, so that was a significant amount of weight for me. My husband didn't really do much to sway - I think he cut back on caffeine around O and took a couple of hot baths, but that was it. I tried to put my effort into diet and supplements and didn't worry about the rest. I get stressed easily and so that's what worked best for me. We left the rest in God's hands and prayed!

Yeah I guess I am a nut because after the first week it all has kind of fallen into place for me. I eat the same three of four main things a day....switching off between pasta with parm. chees and unsalt. butter or egg-white omlets for dinner. I really am loving losing this weight even though I know it is temporary. I have been reading this stuff for maybe over a year now and I really think the diet is the heart of the matter....here's hoping anyways!

Pp, can you tell me how you make your omelette, I hadn't even thought to eat that. What else are you eating? I'm in the first week, I'm doing ok but I think I'm eating too much as I'm not hungry all the time!

Ok swish this is my average day- some of this is not approved/recommended but it is what I am comfortable with
I wait and eat at 10 am. I am up at 6:30 so that is long enough for me!!
I have a greek yogurt vanilla or strawberry
a few hours later I spray a pan with non-stick spray then I use the carton egg whites, a little bit of low sodium cheese and white mushrooms, or just the cheese. Or if not the omlet than some pieces of Melba (no sodium) toast with low sodium cheese
a while later I have a diet pepsi. this is very "controversial" but I am not getting aspertame really any other way and I am eating A LOT of dairy
oh and if I get the munchies I will have a few green grapes
Dinner would then be purple-box pasta (high calcium) and maybe a little pad of low sodium butter and a sprinkiling of parmasean...and at SOMETIME throughout the day I have my serving of milk hot in a mug with whip cream LOVE IT it's probably totally illegal....anyways I am also trying to make sure I get the three milks in every day (organic)....oh and at some point I have a second yogurt like a stony field....I am a lazy swayer in that I don't really calculate everything so I am probably over and malnoursihed too but people have lived on less. This is a very typical day for me...I also am doing the supplements and some peppermint tea about a cup a day or so....I am trying NOT to be obsesive so if I keep it the same I don't have to think it is easy and it is temporary and I am just excited to get pregnant with my girl!!! (trying to stay positive!) Does this look similar to what you are doing? Take Care!!! PP

Thanks for that, your diet looks really good. I'm having some low fat natural yogurt as late in the morning as I can! Then I have home made no sodium bread with cottage cheese and cucumber for lunch. For dinner I have pasta with butter, peeled courgettes and Parmesan or rice with mushrooms or green beans, occasionally a bit of chicken. I have eaten bits of the children's food every now and then and some of my sister's chocolate as it's so hard to resist!!!! I love food and this is not really my idea of food!

Agreed, agreed, agreed!!!!! My tummy never gets bloated anymore, from eating all of these high fiber...wheat...and whole grain foods!!! It has actually been so much better on my tummy, which I take meds for (IBS)! And I too, never drank milk (I thought it was YUCK!) but I actually like it now!!

I like that the diet has inspired me to add more calcium to my diet - like praying4princess, I'm finding I like milk for the first time in my life. I also, like many of you, love my newly deflated stomach. Now if I only didn't have a ton of extra skin left over from carrying my twins to term, I'd strut my stuff at a beach!

My skin is lovely and clear, I think it's the reduction in salt and my jeans fit really comfortably!

Okey Dokey, Now i have been humming and haahing about when to start this diet, i last a few hours then give in for a snack from the bakery which is right next door to my office and that smell just is hard to ignore! BUT the fact that everyone is loving their new tummys has me thinking and wanting to stick to it now!!! im just a bit confused as to how to work out the label reading on the back of the foods! So could someone please help me here, are you saying we need high fibre foods??? so if i was to go and buy bread id get the one that is high fibre?

With bread, it has to be White and low sodium, that is quite difficult to find so a lot of people make their own bread and leave out the salt.

I'm sorry, I missed this post.
Fiber can be good on the girl diet because it absorbs fat from the digestive tract. But, breads that are high fiber are also higher in protein, sodium, and other nutrients. So it's best to get fiber from fiber supplements and just eat white, low sodium breads.

Making your own bread is definitely the best option. :agree:

Reading about diet is so interesting. For a long time, I have been on a PCOS friendly diet (low carb, lots of green vegetables). This would explain part of the boy tendencies my body may have though I took anti-histamines with my boys on a daily basis and was also losing weight. How do I go from eating low carb and lots of vegetables to refined carbs and aspertame? That seems tricky, but maybe worth it. :)

This has made me feel much better about the diet I've just kinda started it and i'm such a breakfast kind of girl so have found that hard especially being at home. I think if I could go for a walk first thing or keep out of the house until 12pm I'd find it so much easier.
When I worked I used to skip breakfast all the time.
Things i've liked so far. Rice with fried green beans and leaks with grated parmisan. with a little side of yoghurt and cucumber.
Milk yoghurt and strawberry smoothies.
Strawberry and raspberries with lowfat natural yoghurt.
Boiled eggs really fill me up! Never really ate them before
Pasta and cheese is a nice lunch.
Things i'd like to make if aspartame didn't give me a such headache.
Rice pudding, made with milk a drop of vanilla and Splenda
Homemade custard made from egg yolks, milk vanilla and splenda.

I think it is odd that I hate whole wheat products. I have always liked normal pasta and white rice. I like balance out fruits and veggies just because we do have health issues. But we did eat out a lot when the boys were conceived. Lately we both hate eating out everything taste like dog food. I am liking some of the things on the girl diet just because yes I am fat, I used to be a size 3-5 and now I am a lot bigger then that.
If I don't get a bfp this month I am taking a break from trying for a few months and hubby has agreed to do a full on girl diet with me. He wants to loose 70lbs and I want to wear the clothing I wore when I met him. We will be doing a low everything diet this winter because I make my own soups in the winter and they are normally low in protein, fats, and sodium.

I love how my face has thinned out and my jeans feel more comfortable. I keep thinking how much better it will be to be preggo starting off thinner. I just remind myself when I am tempted that its just "food"! and this is temporary. My attempt will be November so we will be dieting through Halloween...I told my dh we could make a bag of all the treats and he can eat them AFTER the attempt! We can make any holiday at anytime. Its not like the stores no longer have candy!

I totally agree about the getting out of the house until noon. When I worked I would easily go for hours without even thinking about eating and I still do when I have errands to run. When I'm home, I obsess over food a lot more!!
The other thing I wanted to mention is that I am not a big fan of egg yolk for pink sway. I know it's allowed on IG but the yolks contain cholesterol, which is the building block of testosterone and estrogen (these things sway blue). Having one yolk a day will not kill ya but don't treat them like a free food or worse, eat EXTRA eggs because you think they're super girl food or something.
