View Full Version : Timing & Frequency questions

I know that timing is not really a key part of a sway, but sperm count is - so as part of my pink sway we decided to do frequent release.
During AF - to where we are now, CD10, my son ended up coming into our bed for various reasons so 'frequent release' ended up going a bit wrong.
We are now faced with compressed frequent release...DH has been 'releasing' before work in the AM and then we will be DTD in the evening, so 2 releases per day. I am concerned with doing more than 2 because I am also taking zirtec and following LE diet and we really want to get pregant this cycle, I don't want his sperm count to be so low and then with all the other sway factors end up not pregnant at all. We are young and pretty fertile (thanks to my metformin) and we conceived DS first ttc cycle.
If timing is not that important, is there any harm in DTD every night from now until O? The reason I ask is that I don't have great success with OPK's (maybe something to do with PCOS?) so I can't wait for one attempt at positive OPK. Is DTD every night from now til O putting me in boy territory? OR am I just not getting this...?!:hair:

You certainly can DTD every night from now until O, but be aware that the # of sperm hanging out in there will be significantly greater than you would have with 1 attempt at +OPK. In theory, this would increase your odds for blue because we want a low sperm count for pink (again, in theory.) That's what sucks about swaying because nothing is a guaranteed magic bullet.
Are you using the expensive digital OPKs or internet cheapies? I bit the bullet and bought a digital OPK and am so very glad I did. Took all the guesswork out of when I was going to O and I wasn't at all stressed about it. No more tearing your hair out, OK? Pink swayers are supposed to be mellow, not stressed out. (j/k) ;)

Lots of ladies are using an applicator of RePhresh every 3 days after AF is done until O. When you get +OPK, don't use RePhresh that day (I think a good rule of thumb is 12 hrs before DTD) so you don't kill off all the sperm. That is, unless you want to use RePhresh closer to when you DTD if you don't care about getting BFN that particular month. That was what I did for my sway and we got a BFP much to my surprise.

Thank you babygil4me, that is exactly my plan :) got BFN after quitting BCP last month. This month we are going to DTD every 2-4 days with rephresh as lube or 1/3 applicator just before and once pos OPK without rephresh. I hope it works!
I dont have much time, so I am going to add more attempts if I get another BFN :(

Thank you for your help ladies!
I used ebay cheapy OPK's from cd11 - cd14 and on cd14 pm I got a test line, albeit a very faint one. Never had this before! This continued, getting slightly darker each day.
From CD15 am onwards I have used the expensive clearblue digital backed up with internet cheapies and BOTH have given me POSITIVE from CD16 am (today)
SO exciting but worrying at the same time because I have pcos, hope the results are accurate!
My OPK are positive today, CD16 which is spot on for my cycle and what FF tells me, so I think this is the real thing.
Now we DTD at 2am this morning - do I dare do it one more time tonight and then thats it for this cycle?! So confusing!
My sway has been awful this month, NOTHING has gone to plan!

Woohoo - glad you got your +OPK Princess G! Hopefully this will be your month. Personally I would do 1 attempt this month and see what happens. Good luck!
Cauliflower - if you actually use RepHresh as a lube you're going to dramatically reduce your odds of conception. Personally I'd just use RepHresh every 3 days until +OPK and just have 1 attempt for the month. You probably got BFN last month because you just came off BCP. You may have better luck this month. :)

I only have enough Rephresh to use before attempt. In case I need it for a few months. I haven't been using any since my AF. I plan on 12 hours before attempt. Do you think that's okay m

RepHresh isn't cheap. If you can only use it 12 hours before attempt then that's the best you can do and just go with that. :)

timing does not sway BUT the number of attempts you do, does seem to sway. We have been having best results with one attempt and this % drops by over 20% when people do 3 attempts.
It's fine if you don't do OPK. If your cycles are regular, you can just have an attempt the day before you expect to O, or be watching for signs and try to get in one attempt when you have EWCM.
After 3 days with 2x releases you guys can go back to the one a day release pattern.

It's fine. Just to clarify, the reason why we use it in the early days of the cycle is to let our bodies get used to it and also just in case of early ovulation.

Hmmm, confused :( isnt that the point? Bcz DH now refuses to use protection and wont release outside, I thought bcz I want one attempt at pos OPK (which will be withought rephresh) I can use it as a lube for the "attempts" before I get pos OPK?
Otherwise it i will technically not be one attempt?
DH is over 35 and I do need him to releAse every 2-4 days...

Don't use Rephresh as a lube, use Acijel or Sylk. RepHresh is a terrible lube.
RepHresh should be used 8-12-14 hours before attempt and not right before.
One attempt has way way better results than RepHresh, so I would really prefer to see people drop RepHresh and keep one attempt.

Especially if you are not feeling good about your sway otherwise, I would have you stick with one attempt.

Cant buy sylk or acijel here:( what abt lactal?. Will every 3 days be enough to kill sperm. I bought rephresh in Florida.
Could J&D do the trick?

Oh I see what you're saying - you're saying to prevent pregnancy from earlier attempts, use a large amount of RepHresh. With a husband that won't help that could def. be a good option since spermicide is not available in your country.

:)YES, I am sorry, due to language barrier, it is sometimes difficult to explain.
1 attempt at pos OPK is just ONE attempt right, so BDing before would not make it one attempt in reality, would it? Cause that would be O-5 etc?
Alternative is using rephresh full applicator every 3 days and DTD the day of application that would hinder pregnancy, and stop like 3-4 days before expeced pos OPK. Would still make it one attempt at pos OPK???

BabyGirl4me, what do you mean when you say 1 attempt at pos OPK? Did you not have him release inside you before that? , or does it mean that you did not have any attempts after you got pos OPK?
Still confused :(

We don't need to get too hung up on the definitions here - I think that EITHER way, it's going to still be a good pink sway and really, it accomplishes the same goal that one attempt does. Lowering sperm numbers.
I got my DD with an unprotected BD 5 days before I ovulated (and with the exception of my 1st son when we were 20 years old and superhuman, I have never been able to conceive that far out) and then an attempt late at night the day before ovulation. So basically just what you are suggesting, worked for us.

Ok, thank you. Just got a little obsessed by definitions here ;) i thought maybe I had it wrong.
Anyways, CD7 for me soon, so here we go again :ttc:

I was just thinking about frequency. Not for the sway so much as just increasing chances of getting pregnant. I want to make sure DH's count is as high as possible. We dtd today, 3 days before that and 4 days before that. We're going again in 2 (and I should O that day) This is his only release.
I know if you do it too often the # will lower but if you hold it too long it lowers as well. What's the best # of days in between?
