View Full Version : Spermicidal....where???

After reading the TTC a Girl library (and DH read it too!!) We thought we'd try the Hole in the Condom scenario...however we're struggling to find a) spermicidal condoms and/or b)spermicidal lubes.

We thought of using a normal condom but mixing some water based lube with some spermicide and seeing how that works - but we can't get the vital "ingredients" unless we order online (mainly from America) , but DH wants to go to a shop (like boots) and pick them up himself so he can satisfy himself that he's buying the right thing by speaking to a pharmacist.

We have, however, found a lube that states "Warning: This does not contain spermicide. However it can slow sperm down. We recommend that if you are trying for a baby that you consult with a doctor before using this product".

Will that work on it's own, as a replacement for HIC for TTC a girl?
I mean without the condom and watery lube?

As I've said in previous posts, we're TTC from September onwards, but honestly believe it'll be a BFP in September after first attempt as we've always gotten pregnant on the first attempt - so trying to sway as much as we can in a short time!!

Some background: On a (kind of) LE diet (feel I'm eating way too much) and upped cardio from 30 to 60mins a day. Taking 2000mcg Folic acid daily and will be using SI during AF in September. Trying to think what's relevant here...um 5 kids - oldest is a girl, then four boys (also had a missed miscarriage at 20wks, before my girl - a precious wee boy).

Anything that's detrimental to sperm should sway pink. :)

That's what we're struggling to find - foams, creams or gels - just don't seem readily available in the UK x thanks for the reply though x

Couldnt find spermicide foam/ lube in Norway as well. It is because some of the incredients were not safe, carcinogenic I think. Will be using Rephresh as lube except for th n attempt at pos OPK, and stop there. Time is not on my side, so I have to pick! GL!

Just wanted to address the carcinogenic thing - using spermicide on occasion will not cause cancer.

I think if you can't find spermicide maybe lime is the way to go ?

First - have sleeping baby on me so 1handed typing sorry for mistakes x

Thanks for the info - but <this may seem strange> I'd rather use something from a pharmacy...not sure I trust mtself well enough to try and make something and I wouldn't feel comfortable putting stuff up there that's not designed for it (i realise lime is more natural, less chemicals etc). the thing is i get irritated down there quite easy - have to change brands of sanitary towels every other month as get left very dry sore and itchy on outside (forget tampons)!! Tried organic ones and tghey worked for 2 months before i reacted...so i have to very careful!!

This is the one we got :Durex Play Aloe Vera Kind and Gentle Intimate Lube 50ml - Boots (http://www.boots.com/en/Durex-Play-Aloe-Vera-Kind-Gentle-Intimate-Lube-50ml_981258/) it says on the page about slowing down sperm so here's hoping xx
thanks again xx

I totally agree with you and also prefer people not use lime.

Arsenic, botulism, and radioactivity are "natural". It's not natural to put lime in the VJ, it's not meant to be there, and I vastly prefer people stick with things concocted by chemists in a lab that is sanitary and designed to be safe, versus something that just so happened to grow on a tree LOL. :)
