View Full Version : Ovulation timing problem :(

I think I have a problem. Bare with me because I don't know how to word this without making it confusing. So I noticed yesterday that my ovulation day got pushed back in August to the 28th when it used to be the 26th. I am not sure why that happened because my cycle this month was 28 days. I wanted to track my ovulation with OPKs this month just to make sure I am sure about my days. But I didn't think I needed to test until the day before my projected ovulation (which now I realize was stupid). I noticed EWCM a few days ago and didn't think anything of it because I was going off of my phone dates. So this afternoon around 12 I took a smiley OPK and it was negative but if I am supposed to ovulate tomorrow than I was expecting it to be positive. I don't know what to do now. I am going to take another one tomorrow to see what it says but I think I might have missed my ovulation by a day or two and now I have no way of knowing. I think I ovulated CD 13 or 14 instead of CD 15 or 16. So pretty much what I am asking is what do I do next month for my BD days?! If my ovulation is off how am I supposed to know when I am 3 days out? I am really freaking out now. :/ please help! I am hoping and praying that I get a positive OPK tomorrow and that this is all for nothing. But my CM is more watery now then it was a few days ago...

What if I missed it though for this month so then I have no idea when I ovulated this month? That is my concern. Because then I don't have a time frame for my BD days next cycle :/ ... on another note though I hope we both get our blue bfp's! We will be finding out gender around the same time and everything!

You will know when you ovulated from the day your period starts, as the time between o and af is always the same. So if you have a 28 day cycle normally and ovulate on cd14, when your period starts this time count back 14 days and thats the day you ovulated. It wont neccessarily affect next month anyway, so you just count days from your period starting and that will tell you when you are likely to ovulate. Id start using opk's from day 11/12 if not earlier to make sure you dont miss the surge.
Unfortunately until your period starts this month you wont be able to work next month out :) i had that in jan and feb where i had 2 surprise 30 day cycles! I expected it again last month when i was off the pill and it was 28 days!

Don't worry about the exact day, just start having sex every 2-4 days or so after your period ends. If you are using OPK's just start using them twice a day a few days before you normally ovulate and then once you get a positive make sure to DTD that day and continue until your OPK goes negative

OK thanks everyone! I feel better about it now! It is getting down to the wire now and I am starting to freak out. This was the last thing I think I needed to happen!

I'm sorry I missed this question. For next month, you need to get some cheap OPK and start testing before you could possibly O. Do not wait till the day before, that is too late.
You NEVER have a time frame for your BD days next month anyway. Your O days could be totally different next month. There is no rhyme or reason to when you O, or at least not anything that you can predict by using your previous dates to go off of. That's why we use the OPK for timing intercourse - because while they're not perfect, they're the best option we have.

The problem is, that doesn't work if someone has a short LP - while the "normal" time from O to AF is 14 days, it can be anywhere from 10-16 days and 12-15 is normal so there is no way to use that to know for sure when a person ovulated. Plus, jsut because you O on a certain day one month there is no guarantee you will O on that same cycle day in subsequent months.

So I want to get the basic ones with the lines? Would I start BDing once I see two lines even if it is light? Or would I want to wait until it is a bit darker? And do I need to wait for EWCM?

OPK are not positive till the second line is as dark or darker than the test line.
Personally I would have you BD every 2-4 days through your whole cycle and then go for 3 attempts at pos OPK (that night, next morning, next night). I would not have you wait around for EWCM. i got my 4th boy with no visible CM and did not even realize I ovulated.

Perfect! Thanks so much. AF is due on Monday so you gave me my bd plan right in time!
