View Full Version : 11 week potty shot, right or wrong for you?

Well I had my 11 week appointment (11 weeks on the dot) with my fantastic obstetrician today and told him we will find out gender ASAP. He gave me a scan and looked down there, while commenting that the NT scan place at 12 weeks was having amazing success determining gender and I could probably find out then. He lined up a potty shot angle and immediately when he and I saw the screen we looked at eachother, I said "I saw that" and he laughed, and asked what I thought that was, I said "it's a boy isn't it?" And he said "I'm almost certain, it's early, but I don't see that turning into a vagina" It was literally a penis length bit sticking out between the legs. I'm 99% sure it wasn't cord because of the way it ended and where it was.

I didn't ask for a nub shot because I had no doubt. But now at home I'm desperate to convince myself it could be wrong! I thought at 11 weeks it couldn't even BE a penis but it seriously looked like one. I know all about nub theory and how potty shots at 11 weeks can be wrong, but did anyone see a big long thing between the legs and seriously have it turn out to be a girl?

I got no pic of it but found a similar one on Google to what I saw. It was like this but even longer. So not just a bulge, but a long skinny doodle looking thing:

If it looked like that I would say boy, my girl at 11 weeks looked totally different

Aww Meeks...
I think if you're not used to looking for the differences in gender, they all look like boys...especially at 11 weeks. The tech who did my scan didnt even look at a potty shot. Swollen girly parts can definitely look boyish.
Honestly, I dont think you know any more about the gender now than you did before you went in there..
I'm still holding out hope for a girl...
Though I know regardless, this baby is VERY lucky & will be loved more than anything!!!

Thanks Beadin, I can't shake the fear though. Obviously I will love this little bub be it boy or girl but I invested sooooo much time and effort into my girl sway I just really wanted the chance to experience the results. Intelligender said boy for me too, which I know can be crap but I feel like the odds are stacking up.

I tell you what, if this is boy number 3, he REALLY wanted to be born, because 3rd round of clomid, 18 months TTC and LE diet was a pretty big obstacle for him to overcome.

This isn't mine, but my daughters looked just like this and if you google 11 week potty shot they are all extremely similar and most are different sexes so its really hard to tell at 11 weekshttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/31/6adavumu.jpg

Omg thanks for the hope ladies. This gets me through until I'm far enough along to find out with more certainty.

Honestly i think if they think 14 weeks is too early for a potty shot, theres no way theyd be able to tell at 11weeks. Try to forget what you saw xxxx

If this was anyone else, I would tell them 11 weeks is absolutely positively ridiculous to use a potty shot and call it, but its me, and of course I am terrified ;-)

Aw try to ignore it (yeah right lol). Are you having another scan in a week or two?

meeks32
July 31st, 2013, 01:51 AM
Yes NT scan is next week (12 weeks on the dot, I wanted later but couldn't). And I see my ob again for a checkup which includes another scan at 15 weeks. So I will have the chance to confirm a few times. Going to ask for a nub shot at the NT scan. I know those pretty well and if that looks boy I think I can accept it.

I will be glued to this site in 1 weeks time waiting for that pic Meeks!!!:) I am very poor at potty shots but will just put out there a reminder of a shockingly bluqqe 11 week nub shot that was indeed a delivery room little girl:) So if nubs are doing their own thing still at 11 weeks thenpotties will be too:agree: Counting down!!!!!:luck::luck::HH:

Elp I'm reasonably versed in nub theory too, but have to ask an embarrassing question because I'm a freak when it comes to my own stuff.

There is no nub in either shot right? The first one with heartbeat at the bottom has a nice flat line but I'm not sure if its nub...

Good idea! Not sure if they do it for the NT scan but I'll bring a DVD!

I can def not see any type of nub on your pics meeks:) The top line seems to run through the body doesnt it and your bottom there is too much and a cross placed right in any nub area!

That would be great if they would record a dvd for you wouldnt it!Especially if your on friendly terms with them:agree: What day is your next scan, next Tuesday??

meeks32
July 31st, 2013, 05:07 AM
Thanks! Tuesday 6th August 1.30pm in Australia. Its the NT scan so its not at my obstetricians office which means i'm not really on friendly terms with them, however i remember they said last time to bring a dvd and they certainly did record stuff at the 20w scan for ds2 so possibly they will record for this one at the NT. Sometimes you get a funny tech that takes it all very seriously and makes it ONLY about the health and not about bonding. Will see how we go.

I will definately be asking them to print a nub shot or saggitel plane shot or whatever its called. hope they dont think its crazy!

Meeks I know exactly how you feel, desperate for hope but knowing its best to accept boy now to spare yourself this all over again at 20weeks.

I have to say though, if I'd not seen the nub of mine, and only the potty shot like you describe, I'd still have plenty of hope. That google image you posted looks really ambiguous to me, because there are two long bits with a shorter bit in the middle, which to me could easily be two swollen flaps with a little clitoris in the middle. Mine was two small bits with a longer one in the middle, much more like boy bits. You saying that your long bit was even longer than that just confirms to me that it was probably the nub you were looking at so there is still every chance for pink for you. If you look at the sticky post called something like "read this before your NT scan", there are some really interesting photos of girl and boy bits at this stage and they are so similar, you can see how it cannot possibly be 100% to guess from a potty shot at this stage.

I just wish I'd not seen my nub because then I'd still have a few more weeks of blissful ignorance.

Good luck for the NT scan!

X

see thats the thing, there was no 3 bits at all, just one long skinny bit. maybe it was just the nub... i would have thought my ob would have enough experience by now that he would know that though. but then none of them pay much attention to early gender studies do they?

I can't wait for your 20w scan. I agree I was super positive until I saw the nub and now wish I hadn't seen it until it is at a more reliable gestation. How you described feeling in that first sentence is right on.

Hoping you see a girly nub when you go back for your NT scan :)

Just read some studies that perhaps I shouldn't have, stating that only like 5% of foetus's assessed as being male at 11 weeks turned out to be female. Where something like 50% of ones assessed as female ended up being male. Basically its hugely unlikely for a boy to turn into a girl, at 11 weeks, and even less likely later on. Sigh. Need to stop reading!

I am pretty sure a long, flat girl nub would look like that from underneath ;) I wouldn't put stock in any potty shot before 15 weeks. The hormones just aren't there yet for genital formation (at 11 weeks).

And I have to add, theres always the possibility of cord, especially if the line was pretty big, unless DH is a chippendale of course lol!!!

I did the pee test and it was accurate for me at 10 weeks said girl and we found out she was a girl but I've heard alot of boy results are false not so much girl results but who knows its all 50/50

A potty shot at 14 weeks with DD3 showed a very prominent nub but a side on shot showed a she was a girl (long, flat and non angled nub).
This time my nuchal was high risk cos my bloods were dodgy so was scanned by the fetal medicine specialist. He ventured a gender guess at 12 plus weeks all based on the angle of the nub and didn't go near a single potty shot.

11 weeks is too early.

Bahahahhaha that made me smile really big this morning! Lol. No dh is completely normal, nothing ridiculous. It was quite a lot longer than any other 11 week potty shots I can find, and the fact it was just one long bit no two bits either side, perhaps it WAS cord. Although the ob didn't think so. I know they can be wrong...

See with yours I can still see two lines, which definitely look girly. I wasn't looking that hard because the machine isn't that new and wasn't very detailed so I just didn't get a glimpse of nub at all.

Lol that's true re intelligender. I looked up the reviews on amazon and an Australian review site and its pretty much 50/50, 2.5 starts out of 5. That to me says its about as accurate as flipping a coin, doing the ring test or the Chinese gender chart.

Also, I think I did it a week early.

But I have a sneaking suspicion I'm just convincing myself of what I want to hear, and should just be accepting that my sway failed.

If the ultrasound place won't do a video I'll get dh to video it on his phone. If I see a boy nub I think I will be ok to accept it. If I see a girl nub I won't accept anything until 20 weeks! Lol.

I'm feeling so much better from the hope, but then feeling scared of the fall again and angry at myself for even thinking girl is a possibility. My intuition was wrong with ds1. With ds2 i had no inkling of what he may be. This time I felt so strongly it was a girl because its my first pregnancy where I haven't had very very severe morning sickness, and its been quite different to the other two, better skin, better hair, less tired etc. if anything a third one should be worse shouldn't it?? With a 2 and 4 year old to chase?

Anyway as I said, convincing myself of what I want to hear!!!

Haha well that's very true! By my 12 week scan I'll be an expert! I am angry with myself I didn't ask for a nub at the time. Because I KNEW nub theory quite well and KNEW a potty shot was not relevant at that gestation, but let my emotions throw me off!
