I have a really silly question - while I do not believe in all the moon stuff and old wives tales (at least I try not to) but it's still fun to look at it and stuff.

I recently found out about Mayan gender calendar and it is surprisingly accurate for most people. My question is should I postpone my TTC attempt until jan 2014 so that both my age and years are even which would result in a girl? (I'm 34)

I know a stupid quesiton but I'm serously confused. Was it accurate for any of you?

What exactly is it?

lol I thought according to the maya calender we were all doomed last december 2012? That wasn't very accurate fortunately, so I guess the genderprediction isn't either ;)

The theory is that if your age when you conceive and the year you concive are both even - (ex: age: 34 year: 2014) it's a girl

and if both are odd, it's a boy (ex: age: 29 year: 2009). If one if even, one if odd, it's still a boy (Ex: age:28 year:2013)

lol..good point!! although there have been so many people for whom this was accurate, I can't help but believe it.

This would mean absolutely no girls were conceived in odd numbered years...which we know is not true.

I may have said it wrong...The Mayans determined the sex of the baby by taking the mother's age at conception, and the year of conception. If both are even or both are odd...it's a girl. If one is even and one odd it's a boy.

DS1: odd age/odd year
DS2: even age/even year
DD: even age/even year
DS3: odd age/odd year
DS4: odd age/odd year
DS5: even age/even year
DS6: even age/even year
DS7: odd age/odd year

So, what's that - they got 1 out of 8 right LOL

I'd try when you want, those superstitions are just that - superstitions ;)

DS1 - 24 years old when conceived, born in 2008
DS2 - 26 years old when conceived, born in 2010
DD - 30 years old when conceived, was due 2013

All wrong.

Eh...sometimes we're just really hopeful & there's nothing wrong with that!! ;)

If it makes you feel better to wait, I think you should, so you're not forever wondering what if...
But, if you're older (like me), or fertility compromised (like me...lol) I would not wait another minute over something that is clearly proven wrong.

You'd be better off putting a wooden spoon under your bed...lol ;)

Make sure it is the year you conceived not born. Mine was so confusing, I had to use a calender since my all kids were conceive mid year, and borderline near my birthday.

Yep, both boys were conceived June, my birthday is July 1982, so June 2007 would have made me 24, June 2010 would have made me 26. Both of them born in even years, so should be girls.

Evelyn was conceived December 2012, so would have been 30 and she was due 2013, so odds make her a boy.

This one was conceived Julu 14th (after my birthday) so makes me 31, and is due 2014, so should be another boy. I'm hoping its wrong again.

Even the Mayans had a 50/50 chance at being right...except the whole end of the world thing....got that all wrong.

To be fair, they didn't predict the end of the world, it was actually the ending of that cycle of calendar, it was the new age people that decided that as it was the end of their calendar it would mean the end of the world.

This was a well written article but has the general facts;

I think it's a crock. for mine, DD1- I was 30, conceived in 2003 (ODD); DS1 I was 33, conceived in 2005 (EVEN); DD2, I was 36, conceived in 2009 (ODD); DS2 I was 39, conceived in 2012 (ODD).
(Did I do that right?)

DD1 odd/even
DD2 odd/even
DD3 odd/even

Chinese calendar was boys for all three of my girls.

I think we all know someone that tried one of these old wives tales and has worked for them and then we think it works for everyone and we are greatly dissapointed when it doesn't work for us. I think it is all a coincidece.

PLEASE never postpone TTC because of anything short of it being best for you and your family.

I know at 34 it feels like you still have all the time in the world to TTC, but the clock is ticking and it's best to just let go of the stuff that isn't doing anything other than standing in your way.

The first problem I see with this "Mayan calendar" is that the Mayans would not have reckoned their years using our Gregorian calendar and thus their even and odd numbered years would be totally different anyway.

The second problem I see with Mayan calendars in general is that they're certainly not handy for predicting the end of the world so I doubt they're much better at predicting gender.

DS 2 I was 24 and conceived in 1994, DS 4 I was 37 and conceived in 2009 so not right 2 of 5 times. That's how it is for me with the Chinese calendars too, either right 3 of 5 or 2 of 5 times.
