I had it done for my last pregnancy. Due to genetic diseases but I was able to find out the gender with the rest of the results. Had it done at 12 weeks and got the results at 14.

I did the Maternit21 blood test...
If it had been positive, I would've probably done the CVS to prepare.

We're you given the option of Maternit21?

No, I've never heard of that test

It's a relatively new blood test that looks for chromosomal abnormalities...
It can tell gender, too. I think it's awesome...much more reliable than the quad screen.

Interesting...I'll ask about it at my appointment this week. I see a maternal fetal specialist who does the test and I talk to the geneticist who works in the office.
Is it as accurate as CVS for disorders?

My understanding of it, is that it is VERY accurate...but it's more used like a tool to see if a CVS or amino is warranted.
You get more info from CVS, but there's also a lot more risk. There's no risk (other than what comes with any blood draw) with the Maternit21. (Other tests that work the same way as Mat21 are Verifi & Harmony tests....they're free cell DNA tests)

My perinatologist ordered it for me.

Ah I see. Yeah, we would skip right to CVS based on the genetic testing we've already done

Ohhh I'm sorry...I didn't think you had had any done yet.
Still...if you had the quad screen, the free cell DNA tests are MUCH MUCH MORE reliable & accurate.

Maternit21 checks for trisomies 13, 18, and 21 and is just as accurate as cvs with no risk, so if it is one of those you are concerned about it is reliable for that. I do know however that cvs detects other defects, so it is all about what you need.
