What makes you dry, as I have still have a lot of cm. I'm taking supplements (magnesium, calcium and vitex) and doing the low everything diet. I'm drinking peppermint tea, Perrier, evian, I tried to drink crystal light but it made me feel awful. What am I missing? I will take benadryl to dry me out when I actually do the attempt. Any help much appreciated, thanks:happy:

Hi Swish, I think it's the benadryl which will do it. I've bought Zirtek to use instead and I'm pretty sure (though check!) that on another post it says you can take both together if you need to because they work differently

I used Zyrtex for almost 4wks now and with my last O time the cm was very hard to find. I normally have tons for a very long time and not having any was so weird.

I experimented with benadryl and taking 1 or 2 at night seemed to really dry me up (and I slept great). I take generic claritin every morning anyway but may switch to zyrtec when ttc.

I have the same problem, swish - I have tons of cm too and was wondering if I was doing some of the diet wrong. Maybe I should buy some antihistamine to try out this cycle before our attempt. So is zyrtec the best? I don't even know if they sell that in Canada (where I am). Is Benadryl good too?

I think benadyrl is good to dry you out but makes you feel drowsy and rotten but if you take it before you go to bed it should be ok! I am going to try zyrtec thus cycle so I'll let you know how I get on!

Was researching this myself a few min ago as I'm set to O around the 1st(ish) (YAY!...The big TTC kick-off, lol). I'm going to take it on the days leading up to O, especially if I have lots of CM. I'll quit taking it after I O. Have you guys seen this thread? Probably already have put I'll include it incase anyone sees this thread and needs it:

Hi - I posted a similar query a few days earlier. I wanted to know if there was anything besides antihistamines to dry up CM as you are supposed to have creamy or none when BD'ing for a girl and I use the CM as a fairly good marker of when I'm ovulating (so I don't want to take something to dry it up beyond notice, if you know what I mean...)
I think I saw on another thread that cranberry can also help dry up CM. But it looks that the antihistamines work the best. I have zyrtec leftover from children's illnesses so have experimented with that, and yep, it does the trick. Went from lots and lots the last cycle to very little around 0-day....

I have not tried sudafed yet but my hubby took it for a few days (w/ no herbs/supps/pills) and his ph dropped a lot and his sample was very very dry. I am going to try it with my next O cycle because we are not TTC yet.

Benadryl and Zyrtec act on different parts of the body and can be safely taken together. I think Zyrtec alone works great. Please, no one worry if you have SOME CM. You need some just to get pregnant.

You don't need to take it every day, only for 5 days or so around O. The directions are in the link someone posted above.
It's fine if you need it for allergies but you don't need to take it more than that.

Cran can help in some cases but the cran is really for pH and not drying up CM. Stick with antihistamines, they work.
PS - out of curiosity, please doublecheck to make sure that your Zyrtec is JUST cetirazine antihistamine without any other ingredients..I'm concerned because you say you had it for a child's illness. Many meds for colds have several ingredients some of which can sway blue.

I don't love Sudafed, it does work but has a lot of side effects, some of which can be serious.

Thanks for answering all of these questions! super helpful.... I actually goofed and took Allecet, not Zyrtec - it's also an antihistamine and contains only cetirizine dihydrochloride... assuming that is fine?
we're not actually TTC'ing yet, more in the research and preparation mode in case DH gives the okay. But thanks for your help!

How often would you take zytec if you are planning on TTC before confirmed O? Would I take zyrtec on O day as well (I am thinking zyrtec at roguhly o-2, o-1 (prospective attempt) and all the way up until temp rise/confirmed O) or do I need enough CM after my attempt just to get pg? (I am thinking of using 1/2-whole applicator rephresh 12 hrs before and maybe right before a bit of acijel, will experiment with all of these).
TIA!

I take Zyrtec AND Singulair for allergies and I still have CM! :( Any idea if it's OK to take Sudafed in addition to those two?

I still am dying to know if hubby should take it too?????
He can if you want but I'm not sure it makes any difference. The issue is not the pH, it's the drying up of the CM throughout your body. We may WANT his sperm to be a little more liquid, maybe it will make it more likely for semen to come out and take some spermies with it!!

I don't really like Sudafed but if you like it, that's ok. Skip the Zyrtec though. Please doublecheck your drug interactions with the Singulair because I'm not familiar with that medicine.
Benadryl and Zyrtec are the only things taht I was given a thumbs up on using together.

I found I dried up over the months of doing the girl diet, but also in the last month or so I tried eating acid forming foods/drinks, such as aspartame, caffeine free coke, cranberry (and supps) and that seemed to help with pH even more. I took sudafed if I saw any EWCM and that dried it up.
Good luck

I think I might have missed answering this, but I ~personally~ would NOT take antihistamine AFTER the attempt. Your body NEEDS CM for the sperm to make it to the egg and also for the egg to move through and the fertilized egg to move through, as well.
