I have seen on several different places on this site that smoking sways girls, especially when DH smokes. Can someone tell me the evidence behind this?
DH smokes and we have 2 girls. I would love to know the reasoning so that I can convince him to quit for a boy:bigsmile: I have been trying to get him to quit for years and he won't...this might do the trick, but I need the proof to show him!

Also, how long after quitting will the sway girl effect go away????

Here's the original study. (lower sex ratio means, more girls are born.)

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11978342

Of course, as in everything, there is another study that refutes this but I have seen more than enough other evidence that supports it. It's not 100%, nothing is, but I do think it's a real deal.

Know what, I just got my DH to quit with this rationale (and of course, the healthy baby part also), but we are having issues with m/cs anyway. I say give it a shot. I told mine that it is better for him anyway, so why not use getting healthy to ttc a boy his "excuse" to quit, kwim? I think it is easier to quit when you have a goal, like ttc. Good luck!

My dad has smoked since the day after he graduated from boot camp... 1972 he has fathered many children just recently found out that I have 2 more siblings (the same age as me) but with my mom he had 3G and 1B, step mom 1G, and the two other ladies each had 1B so... while smoking he has conceived in order GBBGBGG.

And keep in mind that your DH's smoking is not going to be the deal-breaker....like purplepoet suggests above with her family makeup, the man's sperm is just one of many factors that sway gender. I know it is entirely possible to have tons of boys and smoke, but if you are REALLY wanting to give ttc a boy your absolute best shot, it would be wise for him to quit and get the healthiest, best sperm count ever for your attempts. Plus, like I said, it is a good reason to get him to finally give it up.

I've just realised my Great Grandmother had 9 children and only 2 were boys - and Grampie smoked a pipe too! Boy I wish she was still alive so I could ask her what she used to eat - I remember she made scrummy biscuits (cookies) but I'm sure that's not the answer :D

Both me and DH smoked before DD1 and then before DD2. We both quit and didn't smoke with DD3 and 4. Still no boy lol

I posted this before but my husband suddenly decided to start smoking a pipe and it's really obnoxious to me - it's like, "Gee couldn't you have taken this up a few years ago when we were still going to TTC?" Too late now!
