Is it true that inhibiting ovulation will maintain egg reserve longer? As in, taking birth control pills, being pregnant, breastfeeding? I was told that the rate at which eggs die off is pretty much set regardless of whether or not you are actively ovulating and how many ovulatory cycles you've had over the course of your life, but I heard that someone's RE is making claims to the contrary so just wanted to clarify this. thank you.

I don't think that you can preserve you supply by not ovulating or by using hormonal contraceptives or breast feeding etc. In this study they found no difference in AMH level (a marker of ovarian reserve) and patients' use of oral contraceptives. Quantifying effect of combined ora... [Ultrasound Obstet Gynecol. 2012] - PubMed - NCBI (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21997961) I think most studies support the idea that reserve dwindles over time, regardless of ovulation.
