View Full Version : Vitex question

When I first started my swaying process, I didn't want to use vitex. It's scared me to mess with my cycle too much when ttc. I just changed my mind yesterday and now believe it's important to add to my sway. My first attempt will be next month in February. I started saw palmetto on cd 1 this cycle (now I'm on cd12) and plan to take it all the way through to the o of my next cycle (so af-af then af-o then ttc). Is this a good idea? But my main question is this yesterday was cd 11 and I decided to start taking vitex before my attempt next month so I took 800 mg yesterday. So I plan on taking 800 mg from cd11-af then af-o then ttc. Is this a good idea? Should I not do this? If I can do this should I take 800 mg? More? Less? Thank you for your time to answer my questions

I took 1200mg but did it to lengthen my lp not for my sway. It actually increased my cm huge amounts so i won't be using it on our attempt next month. Know it ddoes the opposite for others though. Good luck x

Really? Did you already have a lot of cm before vitex? I have a lot for 5 days before ovulation. I wonder if it's going to make it worse.

No hardly had any. I think i am the minority though. If you can try it the cycle before you ttc that'd prob help. I've not took it this cycle and am about to ov and had nowhere near as much x

Ok ya I'm also planing on taking antihistamines if need be so if it's a problem hopefully I'll be able to counteract it a bit. Thank you :) pink dust to you

honestly, I am considering moving away from vitex for most people for now because it's not gotten great results. I want to see how we do with just the new changes in the sway we have recently made and then I may add it back in in a different pattern. none of the hormonal supps have gotten good results at least not in th way we were taking them.
That having been said, I do think that the 6 week before first attempt method you are describmg may end up being more effective than the 2 w on, rest of cycle off method - in terms of sway anyway, but does also seem to really mess up ovulation for lots of people.
So, it's fine to do that and has worked for some people, but may really delay ovulation.

some ahve reported more CM but it's unclear if it's more pink or blue friendly. there may be changes in the CM that are not visible with the naked eye.
FWIW vitex really dried me up - but I did get one boy and one girl taking it so not a magic bullet to be sure

I'm glad to read this thread b/c I was considering taking it. Atomic does this mean we should stay away from all of the hormonal supps? Where can I find the recent changes?? Thanks!
Sorry OP didn't mean to hijack!

I have taken vitex off and on for the last 4 years. I was on it when I conceived both my boys. It does seem to produce more cm, but it's more if the creamy cm and not EWCM, for me at least. I went on vitex 4 years ago because I was coming off the bc pill and my cycles were super messed up. It never seemed to help straighten out my cycles and like I said, I got 2 opposites on it so after my second pregnancy I didn't start it back up. I don't know if it's going off vitex or adding in fermented cod liver oil (recommended to me by a naturopath to correct cycles, and NOT good for TTC pink) but now my cycles are getting more and more regular. I have more EWCM but that can be combatted in other ways--diet, rephresh, antihistamines, etc. I'm thinking about one last sway attempt in 9-10 months and I've decided not to use vitex this time.

when I refer to recent changes, I am talking about more emphasis on one attempt instead of frequency, jelly, antihistamine, and switching to OLE for some people. I don't hand down changes from above, i don't mean this site to be swaying just one way like that, it's just that when I write sway plans for people, I advise them to do it the way that is seeming to work best overall. So there is no "recent changes to sway" post or anything like that.

Ah ok, thanks for the clarification! :)

Ok so just to clarify, would it be wise to continue taking it til my next o then stop and ttc? Then if I don't get bfp to just walk away from the vitex all together? Or do af-o? Does vitex seem to be producing many boys?

I do think that vitex SHOULD sway pink on paper, the way it works biologicallly. We have not gotten the results that I feel would justify the trouble it causes - it's about 50-50 (which while I know that sounds lame, is actually GOOD because some of us with 3-4-5 boys are prob. coming in "set" for blue 70-80% of the time and even 50-50 is an improvement on that). The dilemma is not necessarily JUST the underwehming results, it's the trouble that vitex seems to cause for most of the people who are using it. So it seems like in order to get dubious benefits, we're having to put up with a disproportionate amount of trouble.
So this is really one of those crystal ball questions that I don't have enough info to answer. I'm not "over vitex" like I am with frequency and to a lesser extent the jellies where I want to leave it behind forever, my plan is to come back to it at some point in the future and see if by taking it in different patterns such as 6 weeks straight before TTC, we might get better/more consistent results for pink but I just can't do that YET because we have just changed some stuff up and I want to see how the stats shake out before I change anything else, if that makes any kind of sense.

For fun do you think we should try the 6 weeks on vitex then off? I just got my period after my mc! I got af exactly 14 days after my ovulation which hasnt happened in a while so I am pleased with being regular! I do want to get pregnant but dont mind waiting 6 weeks before trying if i would increase my odds of conceiving a girl :) i am on the LE diet but scared about exercising since I work shift work and everything is generally harder with shift work :)

That's good, if your BMI is below 21 you are better off holding steady where youa re at anyway. Already good BMI for pink.

I ahve seen people get girls doing this, just be prepared that ovulation may go missing and not come back for awhile if you go that route.
Shift work may sway pink anyway!

So today would be cd 1, so i would continu for the next 6 weeks and see what happens??? So technically i should stop it right before I ovulate??? And then one attempt on positive opk would be my plan??
My bmi was even lower with my son :( and also shift work, so just trying to get all the chances on my side :)

Also since i would be planning on 6 more weeks wait it would be worth it to invest in the meal plan :) you could take in consideration shift work and that some days i do need extra meals since I am up for almost 24 hours??? I am very happy I found this site :)

I understand but keep in mind that all we can do is sway the odds a bit, still possible to get an opposite despite doing things "pink".
Yes you would continue for 6 weeks from now and then stop when you EXPECT to ovulate that month, but do not be surprised if you don't ovulate. In fact don't be surprised if you don't ovulate THIS month or get AF, either.
When you stop the V, start the OPK and then you're waiting for that first pos OPK at which poitn you should have attempt, but keep testing even after that in case you have a fake O (this may be more likely after doing the 6 week vitex)

the meal plans I think would be helpful to anyone - they have tons of meal ideas and nutrient data all at your fingertips, plus some recipes and all the diet stuff together in one book. :)
