View Full Version : Chances of pregnancy?

I was wondering if we had sex on the day of a positive opk and we did the pull-out, so only pre-ejaculate would enter and nothing else. What would the chance of pregnancy be. Curious because I know it can contain sperm at times and it would obviously be a lower amount of it. Anyone gotten pregnant this way?? Was it a girl?
This is not failed pull-out where he got a little bit of ejaculation in you as he pulled out, it would be far before his orgasm if he would even get one at all.

and with only ONE attempt. I am just curious. We don't plan on using it of course but a friend swears this is how they got pregnant and it was a planned pregnancy. I know of plenty of people that do pull-out and get pregnant but I was assuming they just didn't pull out in time.

DH and I have done that several times and never gotten PG. From what I understand there will only be viable sperm in pre-ejaculate if he had ejaculated within the last 24 hours. It is sperm left over from the last time.
FYI DH and I are extremely fertile. All our kiddos have been from a one try, one month.
That being said I am sure it isn't impossible but it is very very improbable.

I know one a few couples who have gotten pregnant this way. One had a girl, but I believe the others were boys~ I think it is pretty unlikely to get pregnant this way at all unless, like wantingpink says, there is fresh sperm in the preejaculate.

I think it's is pretty unlikely. We used this "method" once or twice and never fell pregnant afterward.

This. We have used this for years successfully and have had zero unplanned pregnancies. We are both fertile and got pg on the first try when we wanted to.

Not impossible, but very improbable. That's how DH and I avoided having any more children for 3 years! And I am one of those who falls pregnant very easy. So, I don't think there's much of a chance there. If it happened, I would assume it would sway girl though.

Exactly what I wanted to hear ladies. I get pregnant super easily too, or at least I did. Haven't tried again yet! Glad to know for future reference!

Ummm Rosie... It just happened to me. Atomic said the same thing as these ladies to reassure me and badabing bada boom I is pregnant!!
It's funny because I thought it was a great form of birth control but now I don't. Lol! People think it works but if you tell people you got pregnant this way, they're like 'duh, of course' can't win either way;)
I should ask my husband about if he took care of business the night before as he was alone at his hotel for work and we met with him the next night and that's when it happened... So maybe like someone mentioned, leftover from 24 hours?!?
I'm sure it won't sway pink for me though.., wahhhh:(

coocoo! I was trying to look back and see if it was the same you did or if yours was a "failed" didn't pull out in time thing, I couldn't remember! I am betting yours swayed pink! I just get a feeling!

I looked online and it seems as if there is always a 4% chance of pregnancy with pull-out done perfectly. Dh seemed to think we maybe should do it this way to sway girl but I was unsure if it did and I don't particularly like the low odds of pregnancy. To humor him we did this over my last ovulation but I HIGHLY doubt I am pregnant and if I am I will be mad at him because it will likely be due on xmas eve, yuck. I have never ever done the pull-out method over ovulation before but we do it during my non fertile times and when it is getting closer to the O.

slim to none. While people do claim to have gotten pg that way and I'm sure it could possibly happen (maybe kinda), I think the majority of the time that was "pilot error" and there was some 'jaculatin' going on even when the female participant is not aware that it did.
Studies have shown that pullout can be as effective as BCP for preventing pregnancy even at ovulation and my DH and I have done it for years right thru O and never had a whoopsie. So I would not have you guys do that as some kind of sway tactic.
If you are in the market for something like that, please check out the Spermicide thread in the complete index, it has some ideas along those lines

Ok what that 4% means is that of everyone who did pull out, some perfect, some not so much (because those people were reporting their own results, I kinda doubt there was a researcher standing there going "bravo that was done perfectly"), 4% of them got pregnant. It DOES NOT mean that average guy/gal on the streets has a 4% chance of conception that way (I betcha it is much lower if you do a good pullout.)
It takes MILLIONS of sperm to make it to the egg and fertilize it. there just isn't enough in most men's ejac to get it done. Can it happen, yes on rare occurances but I would not want anyone to waste precious months out of your limited fertility pursuing this as a sway tactic.
PS - what if only Y sperm come out in the ejac?? We don't know?

The sperm left over from 24 hours would have died off in the meantime. I think you are just one of the exceptions coocoo!
The other thing that can happen is if you had a BD when you thought you couldn't possibly be fertile, it can live for 5-7 days so sometimes when people think they got pg from a pull out, it was actually what happened 5 days earlier and/or they ovulated earlier/later than they thought they did.

I asked my husband if he "did it right" and he swears as he did!
I don't know, it wouldn't suprise me if he fibbed about this as he has before about things he think will upset me!
Arghh so irratating because I thought we were totally ok doing that so never thought I'd get pregnant and that's why I have questioned him a few times about it! Oh well, what's done is done.

I'm not saying that's what happened with you guys coocoo. It is possible to get pg that way, they've proven that some swimmers do come out in the ejac. But I think that most of the people who say they got pg that way more than likely didn't. :)
TMI alert but there have been two occasions where DH had something like a prem. ejac where a big glob of stuff kinda just came out without really having an actual orgasm, then he was able to keep going and everything proceeded normally. Luckily we weren't actually DTD right then but it did def. happen.

This is how I conceived DS3... DH swears he pulled out. I actually wasn't even supposed to ovulate for a few more days and I ended up ovulating early. He was definitely meant to be!
