Has any one from Australia did immunity(Natural killer cells) and clotting blood tests for recurrent miscarriages. Can GP prescribe these blood tests? Are these tests expensive? Can anyone who did these tests in the past suggest?
Thank you

There's really only 1 reproductive immunologist in Australia and he's in Sydney. Dr Gamal Mathias is his name. Through your fert specialist or even willing GP you can have things like Insulin Resistance and glutton intolerance checked. These things can affect fertility. You could probably also get clotting factor done through your GP...

You can get an endometrial biopsy done to check for the presence of endometrial NK cells (CD56 and CD57 cells) but that needs to be run through the Douglass Hanley Moir Pathology in Sydney so your fert specialist would need to do that. One of the few medications that is prescribed here is Humira which can be given if you are found to have CD56/57 cells but you would have to ask around for someone in Vic who would do that. I would try Monash. they seem to be fairly progressive.

If you want the full gamut of testing done you can either see Dr Mathias or engage the services of a RI in the USA and get your bloods shipped there. I've done this a couple of times and it hasn't been easy but I do know of others who have done it numerous times and found it not too difficult. I think you would have an easier time of it in Vic than we do here in WA. Dr Braverman is a great RI but really hard to get into and super expensive. I am using Karen Pace now who has been wonderful. She orders everything I need from ReproSource (a lab) and they send everything over via FedEx, I get the blood drawn and ship it back. Then she tells me what treatment I will need and I have been lucky enough to find a willing GP who will be administering it.

Best of luck with your search. Immunology is not an easy thing to deal with here in Australia. Let me know if I can help further. :)

Hi..thank you so much for the information. It is really hard to follow all these pretests as they sound complicated and not sure even how many more I have to do to find out what was the problem for my miscarriages. I will try asking my GP as you did for the tests to start with. Thanks a lot for your help.

road- it was actually my Obstetrician who performed the recurrent miscarriage screen. That was where they checked Insulin and for Glutten intolerance. They did one other thing too but I can't remember what it was.

Correct immune workup for RPL requires significantly more than just NK cell testing . Please go to my website Reproductive Immunology | Multiple Miscarriages | Prevent Miscarriage (http://www.reproductiveimmunology.com) and look at the diagnostic testing section , you should have no less than these tests performed for a correct diagnosis that will lead to a correct treatment plan.
