Sorry for another food question but is pineapple safe in early PG? I am craving it bad, never craved it in my other PG's so didn't eat it...but I really want to order pizza with pineapple on it but I heard it can cause labor. I am only 8.5 weeks but have a history of m/c's (they were chromosomal abnormalities) and worried maybe I shouldn't eat it?
Do any of you eat pineapple in the first trimester??

Of course!! I ate literally anything and everything during my pregnancy (just tried my best to avoid chemicals like HFCS, or toxins like mercury and pesticides). Any fruits or veggies are safe.

I had pineapple in the first trimester but I usually buy it in small packs of 2 or 3 fingers or small snack tubs in juice. It should be fine in moderation.

The only fruit I wouldn't actually bother with is rhubarb because of toxicity. But again, a one-off small amount isn't going to cause any problem.

Thanks ladies!!! So you think a sprinkling of pineapple pieces on half a pizza would be ok?

Definitely. I ate pineapple daily in my green smoothies will pregnant (including in first trimester). It's one of my favorite foods.

That's my main pineapple consumption right there - enjoy! Not that all I eat is pizza, but my pizza always has pineapple bits on it  x

Oh my I think I ate a whole pineapple every day for 2 weeks with DD3 and she was still 9 days late!! Also had vindaloo, so much for that theory!! I think it's the bromelain/bromelin (not sure of spelling!) in pineapple that's supposed to help but you would have to eat tons so I doubt pizza topping would do much. Enjoy!

Thanks babybeaublue! I ended up eating vegetable fried rice because after debating about eating the pineapple pizza for so long, it didn't seem appetizing anymore lol. I'm sure it will again tho lol. One thing I do hate is that my diet becomes so unhealthy in PG since I can't eat all the lower-fat and lower-cal things I love that are raw or not cooked, etc. Any tips? I lost about 10 pounds with the LE diet and look good and I don't wanna get chunky again :(

Pardon me for poking in...but why do you ask? Did you hear something about pineapple? I guess I've always thought that ANY fruit or vegetable is on the okay list...

I eat it and ate it constantly during all pregnancies. No early labor for me! It's perfectly fine to eat :)

Oh my goodness no matter what I eat I still end up putting on about 3 stone every time!!! I tried to be really healthy with dd4 by eating lots of fruit and chicken with veg for dinner and I tried to keep up the exercise., it just resulted in my littlest baby (6lb 14 ) and I still put on the same amount of weight!!

Anchor- supposedly pineapple can cause contractions or start labor??
Babybeaublue- oh girl I gain so much weight when PG :( I do ok the first 4 or 5months and then BAM, I gain like 60 or 70 lbs!!!!! I also am one of the few that gain weight when BFing!! I can't win! :( I would LOVE a 6 lb baby, mine are always around 9 pounds, my DS3 was almost 10 lbs (and I am 5' 2" lol)! I'll admit tho I do not eat well when PG, because I am always so scared of eating "fresh" things like salads (which I love) etc because of listeria or toxo etc...

I just had hawaiian pizza about 4 days ago. Had never heard anything about pineapple. I can't eat the crust but I can eat the pineapple.
What is it about rhubarb that is toxic? My Mom is making a rhubarb pie for Mothers day and I was going to have some... haven't heard that it was toxic other than the leaves are toxic to animals if eaten in large quantities. I can't have much anyway cause there is so much sugar in it.

Something called oxelate (sp?). I asked AS several months ago about it as I'd heard about the being something about rhubarb. Again, a small amount likely won't hurt, but not something I'd eat much of:

The HT ladies are eating pineapple prior to embryo transfer...it's supposed to help with implantation.

The core is sometimes eaten to induce labor and occasionally people take high doses of bromelian (the chemical in pinapple) to induce labor or to aid in implantation. But trust me - it does NOTHING OMG ate so much pineapple with DS 4 and did not help at all
A sane amount of pineapple is fine!! And any amount of cooked, canned pineapple is also fine. I would not eat 177 pineapple cores or take high dose bromelian supps.

re oxalates - spinach and rhubarb and a few other veg have this chemical called oxalic acid and it can cause gout and kidney stones when eaten in high amounts. Since the question that was linked, was specifically for someone asking if they can use rhubarb for a boy sway (meaning possibly eat it quite a bit for swaying) then I'd prob not do that and would not eat it every day during pg when you are more likely to have kidney stones anyway. But rhubarb and spinach in reasonable amounts is perfectly fine

That's how I am, i still packed on 70 lbs - not sure how many stones that is- and I ate healthy and exercised frequently. Then it took me 20 months to lose a majority of it, still had 20 lbs left when we got our bfp with #2. Then I put on precisely the same amount again ! I lost a ton of weight until my periods came back 4 months pp, then I put on some more weight.
Now I'm pregnant with #3 and I've not recovered.. *sigh* Praying I don't had food aversions to healthy things again like with #2, I went from no caffine and a vegan menu to hating veggies and craving meat and caffine. Blah. lol
Good post about the pine apple btw ! I have a new pineapple corer I've been wanting to try out. I knew pinapple core helped implantation but that's all I knew.

Just wanted to let you guys know I had a pineapple pizza today and it was delish!!! :) :) Was a bit nervous at first but thought about what atomic said. :)
Yes I'm 5'2" and went up to 180 lbs last PG!!!!!! :( My normal weight is 130 (it was 119 when I had DS1 but after that my normal became 130). I lost a TON of weight this last year and got back down to 130 but I can already feel the weight coming on and I'm only 10 weeks....really worried about getting huge again :(((

cooked/canned pineapple literally CANNOT be a problem because cooking destroys the chemical that is said to help induce labor. eat up!
