View Full Version : Confused on Abstain vs FR

So for the past 4 days my DH and I have been doing FR and we missed one day. Now I'm wondering if abstaining for 8 days until our 2-3 prior O attempt. I'm very regular with a 28 day cycle so I should O around the 20th of this month. This makes our attempt the 17th-18th. Is that enough time to drastically sway pink? Should I add LR to the sway? And SP for myself.

I'm not able to really have a strict diet sway because I've had weight loss surgery and my protein intake is very important. I try to get it mostly with red meat but until O I will be using milk and dairy to get my protein.

The reason I'm so "nervous" is both our boys were conceived on O day but we had frequent BD'ing, plus FR. Since then my husband has been injured in the military and has gained some weight from is decreased of mobility. *I* believe his testosterone levels are much less than when we conceived our boys. He has developed a sleep condition, gained around 40lbs, large decrease in sex drive....

I guess I'm asking for advice. Which would be best for us? This is our first month TTC but my past experiences have told me we are extremely fertile together.

Thanks for reading! Sorry its so all over the place

What about FR, then CFR (3X's daily) for 2-3 days prior to attempt plus LR?

I thnk tht bc you can't do the LE fully/strictly, you should do your version of the diet for at least 6 weeks, preferably 12 weeks, before starting TTC. IMO, fats & overall caloric intake are what sway the most. So you should stick to 1200-1800 cals (depending on your current BMI, activity level, and any requirements for your gastric band) and keep fats low (under 30% of total cals) and only eat as much protein as you absolutely must for your band. I would go completely vegetarian and get your protein from legumes, eggs and especially low/nonfat dairy. As for fats, avoid sarurated fats (in red meat, butter, coconut) except for small amounts in dairy/eggs. If you know you'll still be going over on protein, at least every other aspect will be strict. Add in 60+ min of daily cardio and I think the extra protein will hardly matter! Especially if you are concerned about following the diet (I assume you won't be able to fast/stick to 2-3 meals), adding another strong sway tactic like exercise can only help.

I do think it sounds like your DH is more girl ftiendly now. Plus, you're both older which also sways pink. :)

FR vs abstain doesn't seem to make as big a difference as one attempt. I think FR just made me and my husband too "martha" and despite over 21 days of FR we still got a boy on our last sway (but we didnt do one attempt) So I'd focus on one attempt and less on frequency.

if husband is under 35 I nearly always recommend abstain because it's easiest.

under no circumstance should anyone tack a CFR onto the end of a FR. it's either/or, not both.

Above all else stick to one attempt in fertile window.

I can't tell you whether to do LR/SP without knowng more about overall health, what medication you guys are on, etc.
